  1. That press release is more political pissing match than anything. But, I do see the part of the bill now that you're probably referring to- the part about accepting foreign documents in the application process. I agree, doesn't seem right.
  2. Are you all sure that this bill actually says what you think it says? It looks to me like it just prohibits sharing the application information with anyone. I don't see anything at all about allowing illegals to be given driver's licenses. Unless I'm missing something.
  3. I'm always amazed when I hear these stories. Considering the relatively short distances on most shots at turkeys, I can't believe you wouldn't notice that you're shooting at a person carrying a decoy instead of a bird walking through the woods.
  4. Sorry to hear. My understanding is that those guys have been stepping on a lot of toes out there. They seem to have a lot of money to throw around on equipment, leases, and advertising. Good luck to you.
  5. My hunting buddies had been part of a lease on the north fork on Wells Farms. We lost that lease last year to an outfitter that seems to be grabbing up a lot of ground out there. Todd Wells is the property owner. I have no idea if he has any other property available, but he might be someone to call.
  6. Do you drop an anchor when you have a fish on in the kayak?
  7. A useless comment in an online forum- also a novel idea.
  8. It’s interesting that everyone seems to different opinions and experience. And all of the observations and opinions seem to make sense.
  9. thanks. I was thinking the same thing. It seems like it would be unsafe and a whole lot of work for a bird to walk through all that.
  10. I was up at my place for a very brief trip and hunted on Friday. Hadn't been in the field since opening weekend. For the opener, we hunted the edge of a large green field and saw birds every day. This time, the green field had grown higher and I didn't see any birds- the weather was also lousy as it was opening weekend. I did hear a few different gobblers in the woods in all directions. I'm assuming there is a point at which a green field is too high for turkeys and that they then either relocate or spend their time in the woods. If I'm able to get up to hunt again, I'll definitely concentrate my hunting in the woods instead of the field edge. Was curious about others' experience with when to give up on a green field.
  11. I agree. I wouldn't feel safe shooting out of the kayak.
  12. Do you plan to actually hunt out of it, or just use it to get to your spot? I use a kayak to hunt on Long Island- just to get to my spot. Storage can be an issue. But, I don't pack a ton of gear. I hunt salt water harbors/marshes on the North Shore and winds can be an issue. I like the kayak because I think it handles wind better.
  13. pretty sure I have some also. I'd be happy to take pictures and mail them out if they're what you're looking for- if you haven't gotten one already.
  14. Elmo, what you're describing sounds more like a 'therapy dog'. Those are becoming very popular in hospitals as you mentioned. The hospital that I work in has a program for the past few years. Those dogs do require specific training and certification. Service dogs are different, but must be accommodated in most public places, including hospitals- we actually have a written policy related to service dogs. Service dogs must be allowed as long as they remain 'in control' of the owner or a designee. We do not allow 'support animals'.
  15. The ADA website says that the dog is allowed even in food prep areas- even in salad bars- because of the rule that the dog always be in the owner's 'control'. Can't leave your dog at the table while you go to the salad bar. The issue that I had to deal with was that we had one patient who needed to have her dog with her; and we had another patient who has a very serious pet allergy. Ultimately, we are required to accommodate the person who needs the dog. The person with the allergy is responsible for knowing that the law allows for service animals to be in public places and must take necessary precautions when in public (carry an epi-pen) at all times.
  16. Buckmaster- what you're describing sounds like more of an 'emotional support animal', which is somewhat different from a 'service animal'. Service animals are meant to perform a specific task for a disabled person- opening doors, 'seeing eye dog', etc. You also make a good point about not judging based on appearances. The person who I was dealing with had a dog that senses when her blood sugar starts dropping too low and helps her avoid hypoglycemic episodes. By looking at her, you would have no idea that she had any kind of disability.
  17. Pretty sure there is no actual formal training required to call a dog a 'service dog'. Any dog owner can train their own dog and call it a service animal. And businesses are not allowed to do any more than ask what service the dog performs- you cannot ask a person about their disability. The only requirement is that the dog be in 'the owner's control' at all times. I just had to deal with this issue last week in one of my offices and was referred to the ADA website for information. I was amazed at how unregulated this is.
  18. It's really not that hard to remember to bring a bag to the grocery store- just takes a little getting used to. But, it's worth the effort.
  19. Papist, you've been openly rooting for a politically motivated race war for years. This guy must be a hero to you.
  20. If you're going to be doing a lot of this, a pack rod is great. I have a seven foot Orvis 5 weight that is, I think, six pieces and packs down to about 18" and came in a great lightweight tube.
  21. They did more than just try- they succeeded. That much is not a question.
  22. . It is like free college. Socialism!!!!!
  23. It's absolutely all politics. The only ones trying to change the status quo are the whackos on both sides. The rest are simply trying to blame each other for their collective failures.
