  1. When I use the term 'culture of abuse', I mean the institution-wide practice of systematic coverup that allows the abuse to continue unabated.
  2. Calling it pedastry and not pedophilia is just an attempt by the church to demonize gays and shift the blame from where it truly belongs. Call it whatever you want- it's a crime. Christianity is not to blame for the crime. But, the church is absolutely to blame for covering up the crimes of it's priests and leadership and for creating a culture of abuse- abuse of the children that they claim to care so much about. The organization has chosen for decades to protect itself and not it's most vulnerable members.
  3. Not sure that getting excommunicated from the Catholic church would hurt him. Getting kicked off a sinking ship isn't really a penalty. At some point, being rejected by the church might be a prerequisite for anyone running for office.
  4. Sorry Culver. You're taking too giant a leap here. We complain that gun owners rights are infringed upon by laws meant to protect us from wound-be criminals. Why do the same here? Yes, there are doctors that write bogus prescriptions for opiates and similar meds. That doesn't mean that we should ban opiates. It's a lot easier for a doctor to get away with writing a bogus prescription than it is to justify an unnecessary surgical procedure. Pain is entirely subjective- that's why pain medication is so easily abused. Doctors have no real way of quantifying how much pain a patient is in- therein lies the potential for abuse and plausible deniability. It's not nearly the same in cases for justified late term abortion.
  5. A practitioner's State Practice Act, as well as his/her malpractice insurance provider, and his practice location (Hospital, clinic, etc.) will have strict guidelines that define when a medical 'opinion' may be justified. Doctors do not have freedom to make illegal or unethical decisions and simply state that their 'opinion' justified their actions. They are required to base their opinions on sound clinical decision making and ethical standards, using evidence-based practices.
  6. Storm, you clearly have no idea about the paperwork, scrutiny, and documentation involved in all aspects of healthcare. It's absurd to imply that medical practitioners have no oversight. As Belo pointed out, late term abortions are not done in drive-through facilities. They're serious medical procedures that are not being done in alleys and basements. It seems obvious that you're really not interested in knowing much about this subject beyond the fact that you're opposed to abortion and don't want people to have access to them.
  7. If there is a legitimate reason, there's nothing to investigate. If there's not a legitimate reason, there's no procedure. And, any practitioner who'd be willing to do it illegally under the new law, would probably have been willing to do it illegally under the old one. Right, isn't that a concept that's been agreed upon on this forum, criminals don't follow laws?
  8. Come on, Culver. Who do you think will be performing the procedures? The new law doesn't make it legal for just anyone to perform abortions- only licensed medical professionals like physician assistants, midwives, or nurse practitioners- all of whom have the same legal standards for performing the procedure as a doctor.
  9. I'm just curious. For those of you repeating or promoting this fallacy, have you been duped or are you trying to dupe others? The new law clearly states that late term abortions are for special circumstances where the pregnancy is endangering the life of the mother or where the baby is not viable. Even the Fox News articles on the subject include that information. It's only echo chamber blogs that conveniently leave it out.
  10. Doesn't say that the guns recovered were obtained by or owned by the kids being charged- just that they were found in the homes where they lived.
  11. Will be interesting if anyone suddenly stops posting in the political section.
  12. Fair point. I don't think it's right to blatantly disregard federal law. My guess is that people who defend 'sanctuary cities' are seeing it from the 'humanitarian' angle, while those opposed to it feel that these cities/states/policies are incentivizing illegal immigration. As others have said, it's a very complex problem- and anyone who claims that there is an easy solution is deluded.
  13. SteveD, the Pelosi quote that you posted is not exactly a declaration that she's 'pro-illegal immigration'. I'm no fan of hers, by the way. That statement refers specifically to 'the Dreamers', kids who are in this country through no illegal act of their own.
  14. As to what I was looking for: I am truly curious to have an intelligent conversation with a person that is pro illegal immigration. If you watch the news there seems to be a lot of them and I just don't understand that thought process. Is anyone actually 'pro-illegal immigration'? I've only heard people accuse others of this, but have never actually heard anyone say that illegal immigration is good. Maybe it's happened and I missed it.

  16. There was a nice article on the Fox News website today that mentioned this program.
  17. No, Papist. I find you to be hilarious. In your world, do men get to decide for 'their women' which careers and situations are appropriate and safe for them to be in? https://nypost.com/video/british-man-goes-on-anti-feminist-rant-in-the-middle-of-mcdonalds/
  18. Rachunter, do you take whatever site is available, or do you have specific sites that you prefer?
  19. I had one, a 2004, from 2004 until 2010. It was a basic model without any frills. Four cylinder standard shift. I loved it. Was terrible in rain/snow, otherwise great. It definitely was not meant for heavy hauling, towing, or off-roading. But, for my purposes at the time, perfect.
  20. I'm leaving work in a few hours and I'll be out in the kayak later this afternoon on a local harbor on the north shore of Long Island.
  21. What shot size ? I’d put them on turkey targets as like to tinker with turkey loads You probably know this, but don't forget that the waterfowl loads are steel and don't kill nearly as effectively as lead- and could damage your turkey choke.
  22. were you shooting the same load as your buddy? We used 3 1/2" BB's, Black Clouds on geese this past weekend and knocked birds down hard.
  23. Can't imagine what Alaskan pizza is like. I say save the box, shoot the pizza.
