  1. Well it makes sense it's a way more precise method than floats a sight. I shoot a huge peep and a big pin and the few times I have shot 3D with my buddies that do it regularly I have been competitive with them and their target bows. If they made a .039 I would shoot it. 2. No idea why they started it but I learned to do it when I shot on the shooting team in the Corps shooting targets at 500yds with iron sighs where the front post covers 4' of target. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. As a lefty that's one reason why I like single shots so much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Could be, I have great eye sight but I don't cover the target with my pin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Doesn't cover any of the target, pins aren't supposed to be put over a target. I use the top edge of the pin as an aiming point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I shoot .029's I see absolutely no need to go any smaller. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. I'll add that of all the guns I own I only own 5 savage's and only 1 of them were made after 1980, an a17. I have owned a bunch of different new savages but the only one that's stayed "for now" is the A17 I just can't like then no matter how hard I try. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. My daughter has a cva hunter in 7mm-08. I am a huge fan of single shots for kids "and myself" I'm not sure if they still make the compact in 7mm-08. I bought hers with a full stock and bough the compact stock for I think 30$ from cva. I own 8 cva hunters and have nothing but great things to say about them all shoot great and have awesome triggers for under 250$ they're very hard to beat! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I shoot a single pin HHA, I have shot/owned a ton of sights but for durability and simplicity a single pin is the only way to go especially if you shoot a fast enough now where you don't have to touch the sight out to 30yds. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. You ask 100 "experts" and you'll get 100 different answers. Never broke in a barrel any special way. I have rarely had issues with accuracy and I have a bunch of rifles. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Haven't used decoys or calls in years, but when I did it was always just a hen and that was rarely. In a field or open hardwoods decoys can be very effective but hey can also be detrimental. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Where'd ya go? When life calms down in a couple weeks you two should come up and join me for some laker action on lake George! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. As I have talked about on here before I shoot thousands of rounds a year to prepare myself for the moment of my season when I have to make a shot. I have killed many deer in the ADK's that most hunters would have never even pulled a trigger. You have all year to prepare for that 1second that matters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. When I'm tracking a buck I want to kill I am lost until I know I'm close to dark or until he is gutted, where I am is never on my mind during a track. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I eat terribly, I ate a half gallon of ice cream tonight when I got home from work. Tomorrow morning I will pull my sled over a mile out to my fishing spot in the dark and back around noon then go to work. I'm far from skinny but I'm in pretty good shape. My diet plan is to eat what every I want as long as I stay active I stay at my comfortable weight although my doc every year says he would love to see me loose 10lbs, I always respond with if every year your biggest concern is 10pbs then I'm doing just fine! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Be able to shoot, I'm not a good tracker but I can shoot a buddy of mine is an awesome tracker and misses a few nice bucks every year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. A chew in, that was always the joke when we hunted Maine. If you come across people tracks and deer tracks if you follow 20yds and don't see chew spit you know he's not to serious about the track. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. My grandmother made a quiche that had asparagus, sausage, bacon, cheese and mushrooms and I would eat a whole friggin pan of it in one sitting that crap was amazing! Never had another I liked near as much but I do enjoy it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I own my own land and leave it every year to hunt public land. We are blessed in NY to have as much public land as we do and most of it has little to no hunting pressure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Hunting Is going away whether we like it or not. 100yrs from now hunting won't even be recognizable to us. I am just as much to blame as the next guy as far as access issues my land is posted and I pay big money for my lease in Ohio. Hunting is becoming a money game, if you're not willing to pay you're going to have to be willing to travel or hunt crowded state land. I don't care how others choose to hunt. I don't shoot small bucks but I am 100% against antler restrictions because I think hunters should be able to do what they want. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. We have different styles of hunting but most of mine is also done on public land. The thrill of my hunting is being on the track of a mature buck and knowing I'm going mono e mono against a mature buck in their element where he feels safe. When I track and kill a mature buck I still get the "high", unfortunately I don't get that high around home anymore and very rarely in Ohio because it's not nearly as hard as it is in the big woods. If going out and killing a deer or filling my freezer was my goal I would have a short season and would likely give up hunting very quickly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I don't totally agree with you, I miss the days when my blood pressure would rise at the sight of horns. These days I don't lift my bow of the hook and my pulse doesn't change for deer that many NY hunters would have mounted. These days I usually come up with excuses why not to shoot a deer. I miss the old days when I would shake over any horns. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Deer hunters numbers are falling because there isn't instant gratification that young generations need. It's not just hunting it's all sports, I notice it on the golf course as well. Most people my age don't have the time/want to put the time and effort in. A buddy of mine from school hunts 5 days a year in Ohio with an outfitter, his reason in 5 days he's almost guaranteed a chance at a shooter and that's just not the case around home. Can't say I blame him if his only goal is shooting a nice buck. Me I couldn't care less if I ever shoot another deer. At 30 I have killed way more than my share of nice bucks both around home "Saratoga county" and in the ADK's. I don't care about eating venison my drive is shooting mature bucks. Even that has gotten to the point where the light is fading, I tried making it harder by using different weapons and after killing them with bows, pistols and flintlocks that doesn't even get me riled up the way it used to. I don't waste my tags/time shooting small bucks or does. I go to Ohio and PA to spend time with friends and don't care about the hunting but it's something to do when I'm there. Hunting to me is just what I do but the hunt means way more to me than the kill. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Haha, don't feel bad I have watched my brother puke while holding the boat on the dock while I parked the truck. After his Dramamine and a nap he is good to go but he turns green in the truck on the way to the lake. Poor bastard loves fishing but I swear he gets sea sick ice fishing. 25. What's the ball park on one biz? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
