I had said years ago that I was done buying new Remington's as the quality is just not close to what it was. That was until a member here told me about a special run of 7600 carbines in 35whelen. Although I already had 2 I figured I had ought to add one of these to the collection but with my previous terrible experience with new Remington's I ordered 2 hoping to get or be able to make a good one. The first one I unboxed cleaned mounted a scope and shot had a 9lb trigger that was absolutely disgusting. My first magazine had 3 failure to feeds. I got an older "good" mag out of the cabinet and it cycled fine other than 1 failure to extract in about 50rds. From a lead sled the very best group I shot was just under 4" at 100yds. I tried approximately 10 different loads both factory and hand loads. The second one I opened had just as bad of a trigger but was only 7lbs. It had a few failures to feed with the new mag but has ran fine with an old mag. I have gotten it to shoot 3 shot groups under 2" groups with this terrible trigger. Side by side with all the other 7600's I have from the 80's and 90's the new ones aren't even comparable with in quality. The bad one has already went down the road and this new one is likely to be a closet queen. It's too bad that Remington has fallen the way they have. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

My new crossbow is "illegal" although it's way slower than many other legal ones. Honestly I don't give a crap about a BS law. I'm an adult if I get a ticket "very unlikely" I will pay it and carry it the next day no different than if I get a ticket today when I set my Cruise 8mph over the speed limit. I bought mine for how well it shoots and how it decocks if there was a legal one that did this as well I would have bought it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have 2 the chocolate is named Ruger and he is the best dog I will ever have. Truly a once in a lifetime dog. He'll be 10 in April and he's certainly showing his age. The dummy on the couch is Henry, he's a lab, beagle mix and is a hell of a pup and a great rabbit and partridge hunting partner. The bunnies usually outsmart him but he's entertaining anyways. Your hit list buck finally shows up...
Buckmaster7600 replied to LET EM GROW's topic in Deer Hunting
Don't have hit lists or target deer. If he looks to be at or darn near the 200lb mark and has a legal antler I'm killing him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Best survival rifle ever made

Never once did I say anything about a 22lr being my number 1 choice of cartridge my point was about the fictional "stopping power" you brought up. Well aimed shots are important no matter what your carrying if you want instant incapacitation the only way to do that reliably is with a hit to the CNS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

The military and many LEO's do carry a .22. The reason why the military and Leo's and civilians don't depend on a 22lr as a practical defense cartridge is the lack of energy to get the bullet to the important areas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

There is no such things as "stopping power," it is a sales pitch at best. There is instant incapacitation which is only reliably done by a direct hit to central nervous system and projectile makes no difference. A hit to central nervous system with a 22short is equally as effective as a strike to CNS from a 416rigby. A hit to center mass is a crapshoot on how the "target" will react. Some people drop from a single chest shot with a 22LR and some individuals are still on their feet after taking 15 shots from a 40S&W. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Between cutting fire wood, ice fishing, riding snowmobiles, rabbit hunting and work I don't have any time to do what I want let alone a hobby. I always look forward to winter to be able to relax and never end up having any time to relax. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks, none available at my gun shop but my name is on the first one he can get his hands on. Will be cool sitting beside my Marlin camp9 in the closet. Now if they would only come out with one in a 10mm I would be killing deer with one! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
One thing that might have been said but I could have missed is a rifles fit. I'm over 6ft and prefer a 12.75" length of pull that's in between the average adult and youth stock and requires modifications. A proper stock and scope placement is absolutely critical in shooting offhand both for accuracy and speed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just now had time to read all the posts. Trigger control is something I don't worry about with offhand shots, if I have enough time to worry about trigger control I'll find something to rest on or take a knee. When the sights or crosshairs are where I want them I want the gun to go off now! This is something I learned when I was instructing on Parris Island on down days we would have competitions shooting freehand at 500yds. By the time you were on target and started a slow squeeze you would be off target. Learning to "pull" the trigger without pulling the shot is something that takes a LOT of practice. Breath control is another thing I don't think about when shooting offhand in the woods. I may do it without thinking about it but I'm not sure. Sight alignment is something we should all do without thinking about and it's just as important with a scope as it is with sights. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

After owning the sub1 I will never own another that I can't decock. I like my Stryker Katana and its ability to be decocked but it's not comparable to the sub1. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Just shooting helps but shooting the way you hunt is very important! For my style of hunting tracking/still hunting I'll set the gun against my bench and go for my daily jog, as soon as I get home I pick it up and pick a steel target from 10-150yds and shoot 2 shots as fast and as accurate as possible. Then the other 3 at different targets. This is the most realistic I have figured out how to practice being out of breath and fast shooting. If I was more of a stand hunter I would shoot sitting down without a rest or leaning agains a tree as much as possible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Different guns and light hand loads. Never have shot out a barrel but if/when I do I'll replace them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have taught thousands of Marines and civilians how to shoot rifles and the biggest thing I have learned is that some people can shoot and some can't. My best piece of advice is to shoot, shoot and shoot some more. Offhand shooting is something that can be learned but only with practice "unless you have natural talent, I wish I did!" I am a decent shot and I shot a little over 3000 rounds through my deer rifles last year and probably 2950 of them were off hand. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It had some growing pains but I think its now a solid bow, I chose a mission sub1 for my new Xbow this year. I think the sub1 is about the perfect Xbow I hope next year they make them a lb lighter and 30fps faster and I'll be another 2k poorer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
