What is your favorite smoothbore shotgun slug ammo for deer
Buckmaster7600 replied to LJC's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
You can't use Hickok as an example. I have watched him shoot them same critters with a snub nosed revolver. On a separate note a 590 is a cylinder bore with no choke tubes. I have found shotguns with cylinder bores to be more "accurate" with rifles slugs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Not my favorite but I have a bunch of them. browning Marlins Rossi's Henry's and winchesters. I keep trying to like them and after a trip or 2 in the woods I go back to my pumps or semi's. I have them from 22's to 450 Marlin and keep trying to like them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I bought one from a guy at work who got it and never took it out of the box and needed money. I didn't give much money for it and just wanted it as a spare and something my brother could use. It's slow, if that matters to you I don't know. I only got about 275fps out of it with factory bolts. It's been finicky to tune. Everything on it needed to be taken apart and reapplied with lock tight, I'm assuming this is from the vibration. The scope is terrible. I only gave 300$ for it and the tinkering that needed to be done didn't bother me at all. It's a bottom end crossbow so I think it's to be expected. I shoot a crossbow that cost more than twice the msrp of the Griz and I don't think mine is twice the crossbow, it's about 100fps faster and is about half as loud with a way better scope and trigger but I absolutely don't think you need to spend 1200$ on one to kill a deer. How many acres do you have access too?
Buckmaster7600 replied to Doewhacker's topic in General Hunting
A lot, I work my butt off to acquire permission although between my father brother and I we own just over 400acres plus another 100acres in SZ. I have over 2000 acres of other private land to hunt. I still mainly hunt state land in the ADKS. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I got a 5 spot on the fact that this bozo has a jacked up truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Wow, now that's a shocker I was not expecting anything even close to that! Talk about talking the talk and failing to walk the walk! I was expecting way more than a decent 8 and a few 50" racks. Not that I give a darn what they score or weighed or how old they actually are because you seem to be happy with them and that's what's important! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When I bought my first truck it had a blue bug deflector that said buckmaster. I was in high school and coupled with the fact that I skipped a lot of days during deer season the name has stuck and I'm still called it by people I went to school with. The 7600 is because it's my favorite rifle ever made. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Advice: Stand burn out vs. October lull...
Buckmaster7600 replied to OldNewbie's topic in Bow Hunting
I don't hunt the same stand 2 sits in a row unless I'm sure the risk is worth the reward "i.e. Saw the one I'm after in the am ill go right back for pm sit." I'm super fortunate in that I have permission to hunt a ton of land and I own my own so I never over hunt anything I try not to sit the same area more than once a week until the rut kicks in then I hunt the freshest sign I can find. You're a ranger right? What did you use to Kill all those beauty's Etool? Kukri? MRE fork? I know someone with your skills can't be using lame implements like a gun or bow. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm at work tonight but I'll post my pics in the morning but the other thread got me wondering what everyone's trophy room looks like so let's see them? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When I first started letting bucks I stopped looking t the racks all together I realize that the areas I hunt will rarely produce big racks, I judge a deer by weight. I want to shoot a 180lb buck every year. Last year I shot a 6pt that probably didn't have 80"s of antler but was a 4yr old And weighed 175 that is a trophy to me. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Carry less gear. I have a very small fanny pack that I carry when hunting the big woods. Even though I carry very little gear when I'm dragging long distances i will carry rifle and pack ahead 20-30ft then drag the deer to it. I have done this for over 2 miles and it sucks but it's the best method I have found other than quartering and packing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

After you rinse it and have it hanging make sure that you get something to open up and let air circulate the cavity it will help with drying and cooling. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Do you notice less hunters now then 10, 20 yeaes ago?
Buckmaster7600 replied to LJC's topic in Deer Hunting
In my area I don't see less hunters if anything more. That being said there is less shooting but I think that is part of the changing times and almost everyone I know is more selective on what they shoot. One thing I can guarantee is that there is way more bow hunters now than there was 20 years ago. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I'll try to remember to take a picture of the one I have mounted on a bunch of my stands it's made for boats so it swings freely to stay level. It was like 15$ west marine but works perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Glad you finally got what you wanted. That's why I do my own work, not that I'm not a "hacker" but if it's gonna get hacked it will be by me not some schmuck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Getting ready for the adk rifle opener.
Buckmaster7600 replied to Buckmaster7600's topic in Big Woods Hunting
It was a great few days for me found some sign saw let a spike go that I tracked on bare ground and could have shot in his bed. I have a lot of wet clothes and gear but it was a great time and I can't wait until next Monday to get back at it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

It's easy for you to kill mature deer with that regularity because you're a ranger, with your far above average skill levels and advanced training coupled with your combat experience in high stress situations you should be after Grizzlies armed with nothing more than an MRE spoon not some poor defenseless deer even if you only target mature ones. I enjoy hunting. I keep my tags until the last minute unless I see a big buck. I will shoot a spike in the last day and be perfectly happy with my season. To date I have let 13 different bucks go this season if I haven't killed a big one by the last few days I will shoot a small buck and be very happy with my season. I value the time in the woods more than the meat although I enjoy that as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
