  1. I would just stick to 150's for both, the only 120gn copper .308 bullets I have found are designed for the ar .308's "300bo, 30ar etc" these are bullets designed to work at a much slower velocity than a 308. Black bear not deer are hard to kill and a 150gn bullet lead or copper has everything needed for the task. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Inside of 40 I rarely use my rangefinder although I always have it. 40-60 I use it. I have only ranged 2or 3 deer I have shot in the 10+ years of always carrying one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Factory wise 180gn Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Those racks that mount in a receiver hitch are the only way to go if u don't have a truck. When I was in the service my old truck wasn't the most reliable so I often drove my Pontiac vibe hunting that rack was awesome. I think I had less than 350$ in the hitch and rack and it kept blood out of the car. I still wrapped them in a tarp because most all the hunting I did was on dusty dirt roads. I still have my rack in case I ever need to use the wife's explorer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. The best things I have done to make dragging easy is have a camp with a cousin who is a terrible hunter. He helps me and I'm not to worried about having to help him. Not that I wouldn't if he got one but we have had the camp for 11 years and he's still batting 0. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Both bear I shot were shot while deer hunting. 1 was still hunting in beeches in a blizzard the other was still hunting with a bow in a rain/sleet storm through an old apple orchard. One was with a gun the other a bow and I wouldn't shoot another unless it was already in the back of my truck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Before I started quartering them up and still if it's under a 2 mile drag I find a nice dead limb or sapling and cut it down to about a foot long with a 18-24" piece of 550 cord tied around the horns and front feet. Hold it in the small of your back and start tugging. The key I have found is to only go a short way at a time, drag 30-40ft go back get the gun and pack carry it 60-80ft go back get deer to pack and repeat over and over.... I have made some long drags over a few mountains and it ain't killed me yet. The best part of dragging a deer is that ice cold beer or 10 at the end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. This is exactly what I do if I'm way back in at camp, I have a 8-10ft piece of tyvec in the pack that I lay down then quarter and skin on I have 3 mil-surp frame packs hidden in the mountains and I pack em out. It is a hell of a lot better than dragging! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Just got new blades the other day! She's all ready to go. I just checked in the closet and you're correct they both did. Now I had those old girls in my hands again I'm gonna have to shoot them tomorrow when I got time:) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I hope yours last better than mine have. I've done 3 over the years and have since stripped them all. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. It's that pink 870 she shoots right? I think I got a barre for an 870 20ga laying around, let me look around for it tomorrow it's not a cantilever just a rifle sight but it is rifled. Send me a pm if you're interested and it will remind me to try and find it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Have you ever saw some of the Benoits "art" work on the stocks of their rifles? Just because they did it doesn't mean it looks good! Remington 14's or 141's " I'd have to look in the cabinets to be sure which one" had a rendition of a case head in the in the receiver and I always thought that would be awesome to do on my 76's. 13. Glendell full rut, I shoot thousands of arrows a year and mine lasted 5 years with as many inserts, just broke down and bought a new one last week. If they keep making them that's what I'll shoot for the rest of my life. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Short t style Thumb release and anchor index knuckle in the nook under/behind your ear Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I take a lot of things into consideration when hanging stands "looking silly" has never been one of them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. This is very true. I hunted a brother in laws stand years ago and he warned me that I couldn't be afraid of heights because it was high, he had 5 steps in the tree and he is only 5'3" tall I don't think I was 9 ft off the ground. I'm 6'3" and put my steps as far apart as possible "defense mechanism" and I have 1 stand with 13 steps. I call it the tower stand and can see 4 fields a swamp and a ravine, problem is its un huntable in and more than a slight wind because tree moves too much. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I learned it from a buddy that's afraid of heights, I always picked on him until I tried it[emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Nope, you would be amazed the difference 5ft can make with visibility. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Cover makes the difference I have stands that are 5ft off the ground and I have some that are over 30ft. It all depends on where I have to be to have cover. The nice things about some of my high stands is that no one else wants to hunt them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. 1 pin hha. Modern bows are getting too fast for a bunch of pins, they end up too close together. I love having a pin that I can dial from 0-95yds and hold the pin directly under where I want the arrow to land! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Not in Vermont Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Yes Hunting License Exceptions All residents must have a valid hunting license in their possession except: Resident owners primarily engaged in farming, lessees and members of their immediate families do not need a hunting license when hunting small game on farm lands they are occupying and cultivating. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. My problem is it's hard to judge a deers weight by a trail cam pic and I don't shoot a buck unless I guess it's over 180lbs, does are for steaks bucks are for sausage. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. They are clearly afraid of the market and that's why they only made 3 bullets. I tend to avoid buy products that company's a only sticking their toes into to test the temp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
