Glad you went back to that spot....I think that was a smart move...Hopefully you will be rewarded for it!

Wow, they must be monsters.....!!!! I think they were all at least 2 1/2 back in 2011..... 8 1/2 yr old deer...maybe they are on the downswing....:)

Jeez Grow, I have no idea how bad her shoulder is but I can't imagine a 270 rifle would be too bad in a field pod for her either.....Get her back in the woods!!!

Sorry to Hear Upstate, I hope all goes well and you are back at it soon enough. Same to you on the 28th Grampy! Grow, can't wait to see pics of that buck! Good luck to all my internet friends! You are all my hunting buddies!

I waited for YEARS for NY to allow crossbows in the Archery season. All the talk of it every year kept me from picking up a Bow and hunting with it. For YEARS my hunting buddies have been telling me I needed to get a bow and start bow hunting. 5 years ago I finally purchases a bow and practiced all off season and started hunting. I didn't get a crossbow the first season they were legal. I had barley begun bow hunting and wanted to harvest a deer with my bow. When A black Friday add came out from Dicks, there was a crossbow in there that l like the specs of for a lot less money than I would have guessed I needed to spend on a crossbow. I mentioned it to my wife who got it for me for Christmas. (so yes she knows). So I guess the answer is I got a crossbow because I wanted one.....I am very glad I started bow hunting first. Yes a crossbow is easier to just pick up and shoot but you still need to know yardage etc. Hopefully this will be the year for my Xbow deer!

Good luck Grow....we are pulling for you!

I have the Nikon Bolt XR.....Super happy with it....Nice and clear....Far superior to the scope that came on my crossbow....

I love being outdoors.....I love the woods.....I love hanging with hunting buddies and telling stories....I love watching the woods wakeup. ..but there is nothing that even comes close to those precious few moments, when your blood is pumping, your knees are knocking and you think it is all going to come together......That's why I hunt!!!

There are a lot of people, a lot more experienced than me on this forum so take this for what it is worth. What my experience has taught me is that calling doesn't hurt and may help. I have played with the doe bleat can, fawn call, buck grunt etc, numerous times while I have had deer in site. I have had deer look my way numerous times and I have had them completely ignore me. What I have never had them do is spook and run off. Rattling, I haven't figured out yet but what I think I may have figured out is that it also doesn't hurt. I bought a rattle bag a couple of years ago and like you it seemed crazy to me to make all that noise in the woods after trying to be so quiet. But bordem led me to trying it a few times. 90% of the time nothing came from it but a few times I have had small bucks come in 5-10 minutes after. Now this could also be coincidence but if it is, then the rattling didn't hurt and maybe it helped. Just this past Sunday I sat and it got to be 9:30 maybe 10am and I hadn't seen a deer. I decided to rattle and beat the bag for probably a solid minute. Maybe 10 minutes later I catch movement at my 2 o'clock probably 75 yds away. Get my bino's up and it is a buck moving through the woods. Just catching glimpses of him here and there where I could see far enough to see him I watched him for at least 5 minutes. Tried grunting, nothing, tried the can nothing. I thought about rattling again but I didn't until I couldn't see him for at least 20 minutes. Would I have seen that buck if I hadn't rattled before hand? Who knows.....if I had hit the bag maybe he would have ran right over to me....I don't know. The only thing I know for sure is that rattling didn't hurt....give it a shot...give it all a shot....who knows what might happen. Maybe you will learn something you can share with all of us!

The buck I remember the most is one I missed when I was 16....Don't know if that helps or not but I remember it like it was yesterday. Hopefully you will get another shot at him..Good luck

Turkeyfeathers.....I know I have posted almost exactly this before on your posts from previous years. This is my 28th year deer hunting and only my 5th with the bow/xbow. You have no idea what you are missing. I have become a much better hunter in the last 5 years than I ever was in the previous 23 years. Go buy a bow...you don't need so spend huge $$$....Just get something comfortable to you and start shooting it....I don't look forward to gun season at all....I hunt it of course but there nothing like bow season. Wish I had 23 years more experience with it....Go get a bow...can't stress it enough....

I would tend to agree with this but I was in the woods Saturday and Sunday and saw doe with no bucks chasing and a couple different bucks just moving slow...minding their own business. I haven't seen evidence of it yet

Still not seeing any signs of the rut here in 4k. Gotta head out and go coach my daughter's soccer game...good luck everyone

Never fails...every fall I see turkey as soon as the season ends

Finally saw a deer. I could see bone through binos. Couldn't tell how big. Tried bleat can and grunt tube but he didn't care at all. At least I'm not skunked

This wind seems like it has blown every direction. Had a coyote come in behind me . No shot...no deer yet
-
Beautiful buck!!! Congrats WNY!!!

Way to go Grampy!!!! Now it's your grandsons turn! Whatever you are going through I hope all is ok on the 28th

Good luck today everyone! Pulled camera cards on my way out yesterday. A shooter 8 was 20 yrs from my stand last Sunday at 7:40. Daughter had a soccer tournament so I wasn't here. Hopefully he is on a weekly routine and will be by in 10-15 minutes. All other pics were at night

If I leave at 10...am I really calling it at 9? Hmmm
-
Well...i have seen 1 idk...a spike and a big lone doe. She blew about 30 times and was down wind but was looking directly away from me while blowing. Wonder if she didn't like the scent trail I laid on the way in. Either way I didn't like it.

Seems like a perfect morning here in 4k. No wind and 35 degrees. Looking for my first crossbow kill. Good luck everyone!

Can't wait to be out tomorrow morning...Depending on what I see happening I may take a couple of days off next week. If I don't see the chasing I will probably wait for the following week to miss a few days of work but I will be out both weekends for sure....
