From the first pic it looks like the arrow entered at the base of the neck infront of the left shoulder and out behind the left shoulder. He said it was almost a straight down shot.....Where you are thinking is the perfect shot is the exit hole with entry above....at least that's how it looks to me...

I'll be out with the Crossbow...same place I have been as much as possible with the compound. Never harvested a deer with the crossbow so hoping that will change...

Whenever I take my release off I loop it through my bow. Can't forget my release unless I forget my bow....Only ever going to forget my release once....

You are right Core....From all the reviews I have read the Crossbow you purchased is a pretty decent crossbow for the money so if you purchase a new scope it may be great for a long time. I got a Barnett Gamecrusher. (I fell for one of those Dicks/FS adds you were complaining about in another thread) It was on sale Black Friday for a super cheap price (can't remember for sure but I want to say $299 Reg. $699). Instead of doing research I was like wow, what a great deal to get me a crossbow for a stupid two week season. I showed my wife and said if you are looking for something to get me for Christmas I would love this. So she got it for me since she is a great wife. Not only is the thing almost always $299....It is loud, has plastic rail, a plastic arrow retainer, it even has a plastic trigger. It seems to shoot ok and groups ok. I am hoping to kill a deer with it this season since I have never killed a deer with a crossbow. But I feel like I should have waited and purchases something much better. And the fact that my wife got it for me as a gift means it is going to be even harder to upgrade because I will hear...what is wrong with the one I got you....It was a spur of the moment mistake that I usually don't make and I think that is what aggravates me the most....

I used to shoot all the time.....Now I just don't have time for it....I hit the range about a month ago and put a box of 20 through my deer rifle. It wasn't fired since I took my deer last year and won't be fired again unless I get a shot this year....There just aren't enough hours in the day between work, coaching my daughters soccer which has become a year around sport and the million other things a husband/father has to get done. The hours per week I get to myself are spent boating/hunting/snowmobiling. I really should make more time for shooting again.

This is advice I wish I had taken. I got a bottom end crossbow (actually got it for Christmas but showed the wife what one I wanted). The bolts that came with it were junk...Threw them out and purchased good ones. Took it to the range to site in and the scope was so poor I had to buy another one. (got the Nikon crossbow scope). Now I have a bunch of $$ in a POS crossbow. I would normally never purchase such a bottom line hunting item but the stupid season NYS came up with is what screwed me. I didn't want to spend a bunch of $$$ on a hunting implement that I was going to get to use twice a year. (I usually am only able to hunt Sat or Sun mornings this time of year) I should have just said who cares about crossbow and kept hunting with my bow. At least until full inclusion happens and then spent some $$$.

I think we should at least get together for a beer or two....I know you and Grampy aren't that far from me. I am not sure who else is the capital region....

You saw a deer...to me that always makes a good day

Well...had a shooter come through about 20 min ago. Just ranged a tree he went past at 61 yds. Couldn't count points but thinking it must be the nice 8 I got on camera. Tried grunting and bleating with no luck. Might try rattling ...cant decide if I should

Awesome of you Chef....Wish I could tell you my 12 year old daughter was really into it but she just isn't into hunting. Which is fine, she has many other hobbies and likes to be outside. She hasn't been to the stand with me in a couple of seasons. Probably would help if I cold see a freakin deer the few times she has gone...Maybe someday...

I always look up sunriseand then want to be in my stand letting the woods settle 45 minutes before.....

I agree with you...that is why I wrote that I believe it is intended to be illegal but it isn't written anywhere that it is....Unless.....a crossbow is a firearm...which they never call a crossbow a firearm nor should they. I wouldn't do what Grow is doing because I believe I would get a ticket and wouldn't have the time/money/lawyer to fight it.... That being said, I agree with Grow that she is not breaking the law the way it is written. Written and intended are two different things. I believe that if Grow got a ticket and wanted to fight it she would win....She can't even get an answer from Albany so they don't even know if it written. Most likely because it was never considered when a crossbow became a legal tool to hunt with...

Accept that the regulations say firearm.....in bow season.....nothing about crossbow....

This seems to be a debate on what we think should be illegal and what is illegal. Some of the posters/LEO's etc think it should be illegal to carry a bow and a crossbow during the bow only season. They probably intended for it to be illegal just like carrying a shotgun and a bow. From some oversight it was never put in the Regs which would make what Grow is doing legal by every definition. Now a LEO could ticket her and it would be up to her to prove to the court that what she is doing is legal. Which if there isn't a regulation on it doesn't seem to me like it would be that difficult. I think Grow found an unintended loophole. That loophole gives her the ability to do what she is doing. I have thought about bringing both my bow and crossbow to my treestand during crossbow season. The only reason I would do this was so that if I was to miss with my crossbow and for whatever reason the deer was not startled it would be much easier to grab my bow than to try and hook up a pull rope, cock my crossbow and add a bolt...all without being scene.

I disagree with this....Driving one MPH over the speed limit is against the law....The law is black and white. Whether or not you get a ticket for it is completely different. What we are debating is not black and white which is creating the question in the first place.
