  1. I got the world champion because my buddy has the foolproof. Figured a different one might be better if we hunt together....
  2. Thoughts and prayers sent and will keep you in my thoughts.....
  3. I have never taken Turkey hunting seriously and have only gone a couple times....This year I am all in.... Saturday - I went to a farm some friends of my parents own. Apparently they told my parents along time ago I could hunt there but my parents told them, nah, he has a lease. They were talking about their friends and I happened to ask if anyone hunts there and they said no but they said you can.....Would have been nice to know a long time ago...Lease, at least 45 minutes from my house, this farm is 10 minutes. So I walked the land which is all fields and hedge rows and there were 5 hens and two strutters in the back field when I entered the field. They quickly exited but it was exciting to see them. I went back last night and set a blind up on the back edge of their property where it transitions to woods and where the Turkeys entered when they ran out of the field. Sunday - I met one of my buddies at 5 am at the lease. He Turkey hunts every year and is going to show me the ropes. We did a lot of walking and owl hooting. The turkeys were gobbling like crazy. We heard at least 8-10 different gobblers. It was really cool to hear and got me jacked. We then patterned my shotgun and spent a couple hours shooting clays.... My buddy is going to hunt with me Sunday 5/3 on the lease which is the first day he will be able to get out. I am looking forward to learning from him. Friday and Saturday I will be on my own and plan to sit on the farm I got permission to hunt on.....
  4. I have only hunted Turkey a couple of times and have never been successful. I have never taken it very seriously. Usually there is more in May that I am interested in doing....Not this year, I am all in and I am going to try like heck to get my first bird. Shotgun- I bought a new shotgun. A Beretta A300 Turkey Edition. I bought 3" Winchester Long Beards and 3" TSS's. When I checked the pattern at 35 yards the long beards patterned better than the TSS shells but from everything I have heard the TSS shells are the shells you want too use. Both would have killed Turkey but there were more concentrated pellets with the long beards. They were also a lot cheaper. Which shells should I use? Is it true you can shoot to 60yds with the TSS shells? What should my range be? Obviously closer is better but I don't want to be unknowingly taking hail mary shots. I plan on bringing my range finder.... Decoys- I purchased some foam decoys at Runnings. They are both hens. My buddy that turkey hunts a lot told me those decoys might work but he would get some better ones. So I picked up two more (I believe they are called thunderchicken) that are more realistic looking (and cost 3x as much). I got a feeding hen and a hen with her head upright. Would you use just the two better decoys? Would you use all 4? Should I get a Jake decoy? How far apart and how far from the blind do I set the decoys? Blind- I have never hunted out of a blind. I recently got permission to hunt on a farm near my house. When I went to check out the land there were 5 hens and two strutters in the back field. This farm is pretty much all field with hedge rows. It goes to woods where their property ends. I set up a blind in the very back corner about 30 yds from where the Turkeys entered the woods when I ran them out of the field. When you hunt out of a blind, do you wear black or camo? Do you open all the windows or just the front window? My thought is black would be better in the blind but if I wear camo and have to change my game plan and move to a hedge row I would be able to be concealed. Give me some blind hunting tips.... Calls- I ordered a lynch box call and a lynch mouthpiece call. I have been practicing with both and feel I actually sound pretty decent especially with the box call. I also have one of those primos calls you can mount to the gun. I feel like that call sounds terrible. Do I have any need for another call? Jake-Tom - I am not going to be upset if I take a Jake for my first bird but...….If I get lucky and a bird happens to come in very early on the first day, if I know it is a jake, I may decide to pass and keep my tags since there isn't anything else to do during quarantine. So how do I tell if the bird is a Jake? If there is more than one I would obviously want the bigger one....
  5. If you don't mind saying, who are you ordering from that ships to NY....?
  6. I don't know if you have a Runnings near you but I was able to get TSS shells and Winchester long beards at Runnings last Saturday...
  7. I have never killed a Turkey......I have never taken it very seriously and have only gone a couple of times. Usually there are a million other things to do with the nice weather in May. However, this year I am all in and excited about it. I am just looking forward to having something to do....I purchased a New Beretta Outlander Turkey edition. Patterned it Sunday. I was surprised to find that the Winchester longbeards patterned better than the ultra expensive TSS shells that I bought 3 boxes of...Picked up a blind and bought a couple hen decoys. Got a box call and mouth call and have been practicing....If I don't get a Turkey this season, it won't be from lack of trying....
  8. I have to agree with Buckmaster.....I just want the government out of my life as much as possible, in every aspect! Take as little of my money as possible while keeping a strong boarder and military....period....I don't care if you are gay, bi, lesbian, blue, green or red, if you smoke weed or pretty much anything else as long as you don't take my hard earned money to do it..... I DO NOT think the boy in my daughters school, that identifies as a girl should be aloud in the girls bathroom and locker room. Since when do we make one person feel comfortable while making hundreds uncomfortable. Who does that make sense too??? That is about the only social issue I guess I go right on....The needs of a few are starting to outweigh the needs of the many in way too many places....
  9. All set here but if anyone needs anything in the Saratoga and surrounding area's just ask! Great thread Moho! If you are in need of disinfectant I read that peroxide is a germ killer and kills the virus as well. I mixed it into what I had left for hand sanitizer. Dries your hands out but it works and it is easy to find.....
  10. I was looking at the fastfire and the vortex. I like the idea of the reflex. The fastfire takes the recoil no problem?
  11. I have 3 guns that I have purchased on gun broker waiting for me at Zacks which is closed but a friend of a friend has a FFL and my friend talked to him and said I could have it shipped there. A friend of mine got a gun at target sports in Glenville yesterday. They are doing drive up business in the parking lot if you call ahead. Smitty outside Mechanicville is doing appointment only I heard from another friend so there are places still doing business. Despite the closures. Trump declared gun stores essential and the NRA is suing NY so it seems there are a bunch of gray areas.
  12. I have been so slow at work i have been spending a lot of time on Gun broker. This is bad for your wallet..FYI…. I just purchased a Beretta A300 Turkey Gun. https://www.beretta.com/en-us/a300-outlander-camo-turkey/ I don't have it yet, just won the auction and got what I feel is a heck of a deal. All of my shotguns are older and none of them accept shells larger than 2 3/4 inch. So sitting here thinking about my new turkey slayer I have been wondering about optics. I am thinking a reflex site would probably be best, I was looking at the Vortex Venom. Is a site a waste of time on a turkey gun? I am not usually a big turkey hunter, might go out a time or two per season but with nothing else to do I plan I spending a lot of time in the turkey woods this May.
  13. Here you go, I think the files were to big. The threaded part is what you turn...I used one of those rubber cap openers to turn it....
  14. Here is a couple pics. The threaded part is what turns to adjust it. Wont let me load a pic. Says upload failed and gives me a triangle with 200 in it.
  15. Whenever I hear on the news so and so was arrested and they had 200 rounds of ammo, I think to myself, my god these people would think I am a terrorist. And I don't think I have enough ammo. I would bet I have significantly less than a lot of you on here.....
  16. Thanks Rattler, I adjusted it...It was a piece of cake. Just took the ring off the bell with a strap wrench. Turned the focal part counter clockwise until it was parallax free at 50 yds. Put the ring back on the bell. Took me about 15 minutes....
  17. https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/oem-nissan-pathfinder-body_control_module.html This is my guess. You should be able to find out online how to test it. Its an expensive part to just guess.....
  18. I would say we got 8" and it settled overnight to around 6". Its already melting....I imagine it will be gone in a day or two...
  19. Awesome! Can't wait to see it lying across a deer!
  20. I am going to work still but it isn't normal. Business is dead. I came back in at 8 so one of my employees could go home....My hands are so dry from washing them so much and using sanitizer like crazy. My big jug of sanitizer is half gone. I am going to have to start rationing...
  21. That's beautiful. Only you can decide what to charge. Anything from here you go....too the materials only to what I can only imagine what a handmade piece like that is worth....
  22. I was only relaying what I heard and specifically said it was hearsay but I would think if you were getting deployed to Podunk USA along with everyone else you know and work with you would have some idea of what was going on.....They aren't just going too NYC. They are spreading troops across the country, from what I heard.....and again, it is only what I heard......It was a better source than a facebook post, how much better, I really don't know but figured it wouldn't hurt to relay the info....
  23. This is 100% hearsay but I was over at my best friends house last night. His wife's sister (fathers, uncles, cousins, brother inlaws neighbor LOL that's what I felt like typing that) Anyway, his wifes sister is a higher up in the army. She was saying they are deploying troops throughout the country, along with the National Guard, homeland security and coordinating with first responders preparing for a Nation Wide shutdown as of April 1st. They want to make sure they are prepared to try and prevent people from leaving their homes and breaking into businesses etc... If this is the case...I wish they would just do it and get it over with....
  24. I run a gas station/store/carwash. I have no choice but to interact with the public at this time unless I want to quit my job which I am sure not going to do....As of yester day our business was about 50% of normal with everything closing and today doesn't look much better. I ran to Lowes and there was about 15 cars in the parking lot. I assume mostly employees cause the store was empty. I still couldn't find anyone to help me of course. I did score a case of paper towels....
  25. I was looking at these on gunbroker. Says it comes with everything other than the stripped lower. What I don't know is if the kits are crap or if they are decent. Also, from what Moog said you have to make sure the stripped lower will work with the kit. It sounds like they aren't all the same like the AR15 which I wasn't aware off....
