  1. I never did a lot of it, but hunting with hounds was a blast. You come back to the truck cold, wet, and absolutely exhausted with a big smile on your face.
  2. Happy Birthday Wolc! Sorry I missed it.
  3. They control most of the internet, but not all. It's not yet a monopoly.
  4. Sorry to hear about your cousin. My extended family went through that recently. The holidays are a little tough this year for my aunt and other cousins. I don't know that I've ever cooked a roast. I just cut them up and make stew. I mean, you cut up the roast and put the pieces near the taters and carrots anyway, right? Merry Christmas everyone!
  5. There are internet sites with the same info, (search solunar tables) and they're free. They can be helpful as far as motivation, getting you excited to get out of bed in the cold and all, but I haven't found them to be particularly accurate with regard to deer behavior. You get yourself all cleaned up in a perfect stand location, and some jackass a mile and a half away sitting in the woods drinking a beer, smoking a cigarette, burping, and farting can change what the deer do near you. It is what it is.
  6. Mexico would actually like to see a wall on the U.S. southern border because they now have to deal with the migrants coming from Central and South America through their country. Mexico does not oppose a wall, and they will indirectly pay for it through the erasure of NAFTA.
  7. It's called "gaslighting". A very common leftist media tactic these days. Watch the movie of the same name and see how it corresponds to what's actually happening today. It's eerie.
  8. My Mom usually does a turkey, but she's tired of cooking turkeys. Thanksgiving for the family, then one for my Aunt, then one for the church. She's doing a tenderloin in the crockpot with potatoes and carrots!! And a big pot of tomato sauce with several pasta add-ons and other side-dishes of course.
  9. Make new traditions! The last of my Grandparents passed 30 years ago, and we all still miss her, and all of them, but life goes on.
  10. The two books mentioned above are both excellent. They not only tell you how to perform a specific operation, but why it's necessary in the first place. Understanding why you're doing something is important to keeping your focus. Rule number one is don't allow yourself to become distracted in any way.
  11. It depends on the situation. When I was shooting a hundred rounds a day at the bench, Sweet's was the go-to that would get the barrel clean on the target rifles. Copper fouling etc. Mostly it's been Hoppe's for the general shooters and shotguns over the years. I know of a number of gun shops that keep a small pan of Hoppe's under the counter just for the aroma. Smells like shooting.
  12. Agreed! A bad wheel bearing will be very audible if your radio isn't too loud. If there is any play at all when you try to move the jacked-up wheel, you probably have a problem. That shouldn't happen, and should be fixed.
  13. I'll say one more thing about the Savage rifles that I've had experience with: They tend to shoot anything you feed them and do it pretty well, in general. If you somehow forget your handloads on a hunting trip, they'll shoot factory ammo from the local hardware store just fine once sighted in. I've dealt with a lot of fussy guns that won't do that.
  14. That was my thinking, but the whole minutes thing could get me jumpy about being late for a meeting.
  15. I had a 1972 El Camino in high school. (1976?) I've never been a brand loyalist when it comes to vehicles. The four-barrel carb and manifold went on for the summer, and the two-barrel setup for the winter. It was tricky enough to drive even in the summer with the Rochester Quadrajet, it would have been suicide in the winter.
  16. FWIW, this is the third Ranger I've owned over the past 40 years. They're tough little working trucks, and hard to find at a decent price.
  17. It wasn't from the south that I know of but the cab is almost spotless as far as rust. The exterior rear panels must have been painted by some guy on the morning after the super-bowl however. The rot is horrible on those panels. Interior bed is good, though. Then again, if the whole truck was perfect it would have cost me twice what I paid for it, soooo... Got the clock changed too. Thanks much for that!! I think what killed the Ranger is when Ford started downsizing the basic 150. The new 150 is not much roomier than my old Ranger to be honest. And just try buying a "full-sized PU" with an actual 8 ft bed without having to special order it. Also, it's got a really snotty little v-six in it. BTW. After the front-wheel drive minivans I've had over the last several years, I'll have to be careful with the accelerator in the snow or mud. ;-)
  18. Tried again just now. No joy. It's really not a big deal with the hour setting because I can remember it's an hour ahead, but it's also about 10 minutes behind, and I don't always remember that. On top of this my cell phone clock is off by an hour and a half. Time to buy a cheap Timex and wrap it around the rear-view mirror like I've always done.
  19. I've tried pressing the "clock" button, and even holding it down. Nothing happened. I'll try again though. Thanks for the input.
  20. I bought one a couple of months ago and it came without an owner's manual. I can't figure out how to adjust the clock. Any help would be appreciated.
  21. All the best to you gentlemen today!
  22. Picture Rob Ray without a helmet, punching the crap out of an opponent without a helmet. Bare-knuckle brawling on ice. Rob Ray is a great guy by the way. Very generous and gracious in his community involvement and a lot of fun in a bar. Great stories. It's hard to believe he would ever hurt anyone on the ice, but it was basically his job.
  23. Hard to beat the Savage with the accu-trigger for price or performance. If there is a concern about single shot, load only one cartridge into the magazine. Buy a decent gun that will grow with the hunter/kid. Just my two cents.
