  1. The two Murdoch sons, Uday and Qusay, wanted O'reilly gone for purely political reasons. Papa Rupert went along. They've fired their biggest source of news commentary revenue. I never particularly cared for O'reilly because I found him pompous, arrogant, condescending, and patronizing. But he brought 3.5 to 4 million viewers to his show every night. Be careful where you point that gun, son.
  2. My brother got nipped by a chain saw a couple of years ago. It was high up on his thigh, front pocket area, and cut his $650 cell phone nearly in half in an instant. He wasn't injured, thank God. I sent him a pair of chaps as an early Christmas present and he now wears them. That was a 'homeowner' grade saw. Had he been running one of the aggressive professional grade saws that I normally use that cell phone wouldn't have stopped it. I'm not a wuss when it comes to tools, but I know how fast things can happen with a chain saw.
  3. I ended up with a 6" deep pond in my living room. It's happened before, though, so I just deal with the clean-up and move on.
  4. I won't run a chainsaw any more without wearing chaps. I've done it for a living and I've just seen to many pics of preventable accidents. It's not pretty.
  5. Theodore Postol writes articles for Russian state propaganda outlets, and is frequently cited as a U.S. expert by RT (Russian television). Believe what you want. It's your right. But this is pure propaganda.
  6. I don't mean to imply that you're sloppy about your gun care, so please don't take it that way, but the vast majority of FTE (failure to extract) issues are caused by inadequate cleaning. Just a few thousandths of an inch of powder residue buildup on the bolt face can cause the extractor to not engage. The same can be said of the bolt springs, guiderails or slots depending on the action type, and if the bolt doesn't function freely it can cause an FTE. Beyond the cleaning issue I would look first at the extractor. They do wear out and/or break. And like turkeyfeathers said above, first make damned sure that it's not a live round in there.
  7. I read about a couple with 3 teenage children who were bumped off a flight headed for Florida. It was somewhere in the mid-west. They each accepted the $1,350 compensation for their seats and free motel rooms for four days. The father said it was fine because the weather was good, they got to see a city they'd never seen before, and they went home with almost $11,000 more than they left with. Life is what you make of it.
  8. Check out mikeroweworks.com when you get a chance. Mike Rowe is the guy from "Dirty Jobs" TV fame, and he has a foundation that provides trade school scholarships to young people willing to learn a valuable trade. There are currently 5.6 million skilled trade jobs available in this country without people to fill them. A skilled welder who's willing to travel can easily make $150,000 a year right now, likely to double soon with the new pipelines being approved... Reminds me of a joke: How do you get a 'Gender Studies' college graduate off your porch? You pay them for your pizza.
  9. I haven't looked into this in any depth but here are my thoughts involving the apparent errors: United Airlines personnel allowed everyone to board before deciding to kick 4 of the passengers off the flight. This is generally done at the boarding gate. They made almost no attempt to simply 'bribe' the seated passengers to debark voluntarily. Three passengers were already gone and they needed one more seat. "Here's $2000 cash and a ticket on the next flight in exchange for your seat..." The CEO of United comes out and immediately places blame for the incident on the passenger rather than on the police, who were not United employees, thereby accepting 'ownership' of the situation. The CEO then comes out and admits his company screwed up, thereby guaranteeing a substantial settlement for the plaintiff. I'm not sure why this CEO was hired to begin with, but I don't think he'll ever be a CEO again after United fires him.
  10. Thanks for the info WNYBuckHunter.
  11. "Smart casual" is usually code for: NO man-thongs.
  12. The wording on this 'regulation' is very unclear. I don't think the $1,350 is a 'maximum price' for a bribe to get someone off a plane, but more like a suggestion, or something. And these bribes usually happen at the gate before passengers have actually boarded. For what this fiasco is going to cost United in the end they could have paid every passenger on the flight a half million dollars each to get off the plane and still come out ahead. Very stupid, IMO.
  13. This is not quite the same thing, but it brings up some relevant points regarding the idea of "free college": https://www.billwhittle.com/firewall/bernies-free-college-isnt-free
  14. I wonder if there will be an age limit? I wouldn't mind going back to school for a couple of years of free college even at my somewhat advanced age. I could finally learn how to use a computer or a fancy phone, and torture my Liberal professors just for fun.
  15. Most of Trump's golf outings have been walking business meetings with important contacts, especially the foreign dignitaries. Winning of hearts and minds. And the same can be said of his use of Mar-A-Lago as his "southern White House". Obama went on vacations to get away from the business of running the country. Trump goes on 'vacations' to set different and more comfortable venues for doing the business of running the country.
  16. There are tools made for this kind of work. Here's a sample: https://www.amazon.com/Bully-Tools-99203-T-Style-Sharpened/dp/B00KOMTJ7E Start where the the outlet pipe leaves the building and then follow it until you find the 'big box'. If there's any chance of hitting an electrical wire somewhere use a non-conductive probe. When you find it take some measurements off the house, draw a map, and store it with other house-related documents.
  17. From experience gained decades ago: keep your 'lines manageable because trapping is damned hard work no matter how tough you are. Over-extend and it'll crush you. Best of luck.
  18. Sometimes they're even worse than the federal legislature. They have a similar mindset: "When you're personally comfortable, just don't change anything."
  19. Nice job for sure, G-Man! As a side note, I did a fair amount of auto and boat restoration work for a guy in WNY when I had my wood shop. A 1938, or so, Packard with a 'landau' roof was one. The structural assembly of both the roof and the trunk was made of wood! He brought me boxes of rotten fragments and patent drawings and a mostly 'open' budget. It was a lot more difficult than rebuilding rotten Chriscraft windshields, but it was very rewarding when all the curves and angles fit together and looked right.
  20. There are roughly 1,000 different factions in Syria today. The two primary ones are the rebels, who are ISIS; and Assad, who generally supports non-rebel ISIS factions. The strike ordered by Trump didn't pick a side in that fight, it sent a message that the use of chemical weapons against innocent civilians will not be tolerated. Those two primary factions are both intentionally creating civilian 'refugees' who will be forced to leave their country so that the caliphate expansion can continue. This makes the recent gas attack a direct threat to U.S. national security when/if those 'refugees' are infiltrated by ISIS and relocated to the U.S. N. Korea is an entirely different animal. Hopefully the time will never come when Fat Kim needs to learn a lesson, but President Trump has shown that he's not afraid to use force when necessary
  21. Trump got a lot of support from his U.S.opponents for this action as well. Schumer, Pelosi, McCain, Graham... All while he's gearing up to fight for tax reform. ;-] Don't ever sell him short in the 'smarts' department.
  22. The "Green Blob" of enviro-weenies and eco-fascists has almost completely infiltrated the national outdoors magazines over the last thirty years. Every fall I'll buy a copy of "Fur, Fish, And Game" just to see where the fur prices are, even though I no longer trap. Most of the rest have gone to he!!.
  23. Hey Growie, I really resemble that remark. Just kidding. I'm well beyond "middle" age. The thing to keep in mind here is that this strike was more about the message than it was about the actual damage. President Trump sent a very clear message to the world that Obama is gone, and that he's not going to take any crap from people like Assad or that fat kid running North Korea. It's a message that had to be sent. Doing it during dinner with the Chinese leader Xi Jinping was a bonus.
