Have you ever had a miss you couldn't explain?
philoshop replied to ApexerER's topic in Deer Hunting
The short-range shots tend to make the shooter a bit complacent and non-chalant about technique, whether they're aware of it or not. Watch a pro golfer make a beautiful 25 foot putt, and on the next hole screw up a 1 ft gimmee. It happens. I've missed a few deer at short ranges even though I was trying very hard to maintain proper form and technique, but sometimes the brain just takes over and screams too loudly that it's a done deal and don't worry about it. -
This ought to ruffle a few feathers
philoshop replied to Water Rat's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
It just wouldn't be Time magazine without a dig (or two) at Trump and his patriotic supporters. -
Brings new sunlight to the term 'judicial activism'. Leftists know they can't win hearts and minds any more, so they focus their energies on the judicial system and the concept of 'sue and settle'. It's been very effective with the Eco-Nazis in their dealings on behalf of the EPA bureaucracy for the past several years, and the Climate Scientologists are leaning that way as well. It won't stop without some serious tort reform in this country at every level of the judiciary.

I just think the guy looking at soccer balls for the kid's Christmas or the woman going though the ski outfits or whatever, would have noticed an armed and angry person coming into the store and would have made a 911 call to alert the authorities.

California is talking about seceding from the US. It's ironic that many in the US are talking about kicking California out of the U.S. Republic. We might be able to reach a happy agreement on this. ;-] They'll become a territory of Mexico in about 2 1/2 minutes, because they have no will to defend themselves, and Trump will quickly negotiate a deal with Mexico so that the sovereign US retains control of the CA deep-sea ports, which are the only reason we even tolerate CA, quite frankly. And as a bonus, all the Hollywood Socialists and Communists will get their wish to leave the USA and they won't even have to sell their mansions! They won't have any water or electricity, but they can get over that. Right? They're such 'earthy' people and all. And the 'tech economy' that supports the state won't do very well without any electricity, so they'll be the first ones to repatriate themselves back to the US after the "big experiment". I would recommend a one year conditional "period of decision" for the currently institutionalized CA college students to come to their senses, because they're simply stupid and don't know any better yet. But the parents, teachers, and professors in the state will be required to live in the hell they've created for themselves. According to the laws of Mexico, of course. Just my position on the general moonbattery of anything CA related.

Just going by this description of events because I wasn't there and haven't seen any news reports, but I find it hard to believe that no one called the police. Every Dick's I've ever been in, the hunting section is in the back of the store, and nobody in the store called the authorities? I can't picture a store full of Christmas shoppers choosing to be that unaware of their surroundings. And simply holding a firearm while appearing angry carries a legal charge of "menacing" if I'm not mistaken.

A lot of character in that head-gear! I'd be darn proud to have him on my wall regardless of score. Congratulations!

My old Kabar 1232 would win the ugliest knife award hands down. I'll have to figure out a way to get pics onto my computer because a description won't do it justice. Let's just say that it's been my 'working' knife for over 45 years of hunting and trapping and it's never been babied.

Think beyond just the common arguments regarding Carrier and UT. US Steel now wants to come back: https://theconservativetreehouse.co...s-steel-wants-to-hire-back-10000/#more-125488 And a couple other overseas companies have expressed serious interest in either repatriating their manufacturing or flat-out moving from their home countries: https://theconservativetreehouse.co...s-and-foxconn-begins-discussions/#more-125466 This is huge news for the country, but you'll never hear it from CNN, MSNBC, the NYT, the Washington Post, any of the network news stations, or anyone else with a left-leaning agenda. Ever! Trump is still 5 1/2 weeks away from being sworn in as President, and he's already winning, bigly.

Pears maybe, late season survival Snoopy happy dance is my guess. Great pics either way! Here's the Snoopy version: The band I played in for many years would bring this out at weddings when the kids got restless. Always a big hit.

No offense, but it looks like a miniature carnival ride. It's also a lot of hardware to be carrying into the woods. To each his own.

Got the NYODN today...hhhmmmmmm
philoshop replied to growalot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I haven't seen the article, so I can't comment directly. I just wonder who starts these kinds of regulations at the state level and what the end goal of any regulation like this might be. This applies to any of the other similarly dumb regulations that seem to crop up on a regular basis. Will it end with every hunter in NYS being accompanied by a DEC agent while afield? Will I have to bring my lawyer along to sit under my tree stand? Actually I do see where this is headed, and my silly thinking posted above may not be too far off. -
If I were to welcome into my home a person who's here illegally, has repeatedly been convicted of breaking other laws besides illegal entry and illegal domicile in the US, protect that person from law enforcement, and knowingly allow that person to continue to commit crimes against US citizens, I'd be in jail in a matter of hours, maybe minutes. Why should this be any different for a city, a state, a college campus, or any other entity? Short answer, the Department of Just Us is in charge of who is prosecuted.

You should immediately send these superheroes all of your money. They deserve it. Maybe set a few bucks aside for that Nigerian prince that needs his check cashed though. All the wealthy lawyers in the world aren't going to upset a bedrock principle of the Constitution, and wishing it so won't make it happen. Without a SCOTUS stacked with liberal activists, the Constitution will stand as written.

Proof of NRA Stupidity
philoshop replied to Uptown Redneck's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
You're registered on a hunting site, dude. It's to be expected that a 2A advocacy group would put you on their e-mail list. Hell, I get subscription requests from the NYT, WashPost and HuffPost all the time. The funny part is that I also get, let's just say, extremely negative e-mails from some of their writers and fans as well. It's actually comical when a blistering personal attack is immediately followed by a subscription request: "We hate you...", "Please support us..." BTW, I also get ads from Husqvarna, (I run Stihl saws), John Deere, ( I own a Kubota), and feminine health care sites, (I'm a single guy). Your attempt at bashing the NRA has failed. Next? -
Uptown, if you broadened your view beyond your personal dislike/hatred for Donald Trump, and your admiration for Socialism and a big-daddy government, you'd maybe see that Trump is actually on to something. Then again, self-admitted lazy clock-punchers aren't really going to do very well in this new reality of US manufacturing anyway, regardless who's seated in DC. There is a better than 50/50 chance that the robotics and other automation used will be designed, patented, and built in the US by the time Carrier and UT start acting on this. Remember, Trump's strategy is to make US manufacturing viable again by reducing tax burdens, regulatory burdens, energy cost burdens, health care cost burdens, so that companies can get started and then reinvest in themselves and grow. You know, produce jobs and quality products. Part of the $16m investment will be spent modernizing the plant: electrical service and distribution, HVAC systems, physical floor plan modifications, etc, most of which will be done by local architects, engineers, and tradespeople. The eventual automation will likely be monitored and maintained by Carrier employees retrained by local colleges and trade schools......

Just to be clear, Trump isn't threatening any immigrants in any way. By definition an immigrant is a foreigner who is in this country legally. The only people Trump may actually be 'threatening' are illegal aliens who broke the law to get here and continue to break the law by staying here. States and cities which knowingly harbor illegal aliens are going to have substantial portions of their federal funding withheld, and rightfully so.

Big kangaroo vs a man with a good right hook
philoshop replied to philoshop's topic in General Chit Chat
If you watch closely, the guy doing the punching seems to be well aware of those dangers. He steps back a couple of times to stay away from the kick radius. He's also a big dude with a long reach and even when he throws the punch he's keeping his body back away from that kick. I sure as heck wouldn't want to be hit by him. On top of that, he was looking after the welfare of his dogs, which is admirable. -
In case you're unaware of just how vicious and dangerous big kangaroos can be, this is a very brave guy with a heck of a punch. Just look at the dog the 'roo had pinned to the ground. Of course the 'roo was just in rut and probably not looking to kill anything, but still...

The Dakota Pipeline
philoshop replied to Water Rat's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
There's a bit more to it than that, but you're basically correct. The retention of the "Obama legacy" and the continued relevance of the Democrat party also come into play here, and who knows where that might take us. -
Who's giving it a go this week and late season with bow or muzzleloader
philoshop replied to rob-c's topic in Deer Hunting
Best of luck to you! I've been incapacitated for the entire season and just recently set the walking cane aside. At this point I don't see any value in even buying a license. I plan on being back next year though, God willing. -
The Dakota Pipeline
philoshop replied to Water Rat's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I seem to recall that Jill Stein was arrested for protesting the pipeline in ND not too long ago. I wonder how much of the $7 M she raised to contest the election results will be donated to the people she cares so much about. I'll give Stein credit. She ran a helluva scam right out of the Clinton playbook and she's going to walk away with a 7-figure bank account in the end. Bravo, you Socialist scumbag, bravo indeed. -
The Dakota Pipeline
philoshop replied to Water Rat's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
This has very little (basically nothing) to do with the Indians in ND, and a whole lot to do with the failing and falling of Democrat power in DC. Look closely at who's protesting and who's organizing. -
I'm old enough to remember when SNL was a crapload of fun. I even remember precisely where I was when I saw the first episode, and even though there may have been drugs involved, it was a monumental moment in tv history. Just like everything else in our country, the Progressives screwed it all up. RIP John Belushi. And Gilda Radner.
