  1. I'm really late with this question, but what's your favorite Christmas song? I've always liked "Silent Night" as a traditional song, but my favorite non-traditional song is Vince Giraldi's Peanuts Happy-Dance song. My band used to play that at weddings and you could just watch everyone in the room loosen up when generations of people started to dance along.
  2. Even as a civilian I'd do the best I could to drag your butt out of a flaming accident along the highway while I waited for the first-responders to get there, and I'd do it without paying any attention to your Hillary bumper-sticker. Merry Christmas Uptown Redneck.
  3. Thanks Espresso. We disagree on just about everything, but absolutely family is what Christmas is about. Best wishes to and yours.
  4. I'm 5'-6" and weigh 140#. As often as not, when we did group shots (during the drinking hours) I'd be hanging upside-down by my leg along the 'deer pole'. It was humiliating trying to drink a beer upside-down, and I need my safe space now. I miss every bit of it.
  5. Trump is appointing competent people he trusts to get things done. His appointees are wealthy because they're smart and they've earned it. Meritocracy is something the Progressives are just gonna have to get used to, because a "participation trophy" is not the same thing as a win. And a meme using Sam Elliot's image to promote Socialist thinking is the 'stupid' part of this.
  6. Easy guys, if we beat up on him too hard we'll have to wait for the next election cycle for entertainment. He might just discover the outdoors before then.
  7. Prayers and best wishes to your friend.
  8. Merry Christmas to you and your family, Growalot. And to all of my fellow HNYers as well.
  9. I remember a few times in the mid-1970's when we'd snow-ski at Brantling Hill in the morning and water-ski on Sodus Bay in the afternoon with wetsuits. Ahh, to be young and tough again. As mentioned above there are also a lot of working boats out there that pay attention to the small craft advisories year 'round. People contracted to maintain docks, piers, jetties, seawalls, and boathouses quite often need to go out to fix a small problem before it becomes a major problem. Not to mention the Coast Guard 'small-boat' rescue folks who have to go out to save lives like to know what they're getting into. Rescuing ice-fishermen from a floating sheet of ice has to be enough of a challenge, but doing it without knowing what the lake conditions are beforehand would be madness.
  10. One of the best Hillary jokes I've seen so far!
  11. We came very close to losing our U.S. republic in this past election. Frighteningly close. Trey Gowdy understands this and summed it up in less than a minute.
  12. I've had a Lansky setup for a long time and have never had a complaint with it. It's slow going on really good knives with high quality steel, especially if you need to 'rebuild' an edge, but any hand-sharpeners are like that. If speed is an issue you can shell out the $800 or so for a Tormek wet grinder like I had in my woodshop for chisels and plane irons. I really miss that Tormek.:-] Jeremy K, if I may ask, what don't/didn't you like about the Lansky? Just curious, because I've never tried anything else in that category of sharpeners.
  13. He's talking about Obama, of course, but it's an important message to keep in mind no matter who's President:
  14. ...is what Americans have bought in the last 12 months! That's the equivalent of almost 1.5 billion rounds of imported .223 in just the last year. No idea how much domestic stuff was purchased on top of that. Molon Labe. ;-] http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/12/16/americans-bought-17850-tons-of-ammo-in-last-12-months/
  15. Pretty cool when you have a good buddy that can help you find deer. ;-]
  16. A foot (or more) is entirely possible. Water runs downhill, and without an escape route it will create a pond just above whatever choke point is holding it back. Think beaver dams. Definitely replace the pump. In the summer, when everything is dry, make sure the sump crock isn't filled with silt/mud that will clog and kill your new pump. Run a small snake or a 'jetter' though the discharge line, make sure your new pump is sitting on clean gravel in the crock, and that there's a clear downhill shot for the water. It's a PITA but it's better than mopping up your basement and dealing with mold, etc.
  17. I can assure you that Mr. Trump has staff people hard at work to make sure everything will be on the up and up when January 20th rolls around. It's a big job sorting through all the various laws as they relate to the complexity of the 400+ businesses that Trump owns. Many of the laws are simply unclear because we've never before had a President Elect who was such a successful and diversified businessman. ;-)
  18. What is Trump's stated position regarding this matter? Your response is confusing.
  19. What good are public lands if we lose the sovereignty of the whole country in order to save those lands? The Union of Socialist America isn't going to let you on those lands while they drill, dig, and log them for profit.
  20. We angry old(er) gun-totin' white men just can't get enough of the old Soviet KGB. Is that it? I sure do miss crawling under my desk for air-raid drills every day in grade school. /sarc/
  21. My deepest condolences, Buckmaster. Thoughts and prayers go out for you and your family.
  22. Salmon_Run has already said that he didn't have his phone with him.
