I get super pumped but i dont get loud, in hopes my wife or relative can set that stand and get a chance at something. I keep the excitement in for the most part, besides the non stop fist pumps and shakes of the hands and knees lol

I follow all your saying and definitely agree with you, I guess I missed the stand part. If I'm elevated then yes I will back off a few inches to miss the far shoulder. Flat level shot maybe not so much the entrance hole should be low enough to pump blood. I did this last year with my buck.. he was 8 yards and quartering to slightly, i was 18ft in the air, I kept back a couple inches from the front shoulder with my pin knowing I wold hit atleast one lung and all liver. I've hit the shoulder going in before, and yea, you know the rest. I don't like taking the shot I did last year but I know it was lethal. I did watch him bed and suffer for an hour or so before dark and felt horrible but, seems like I'm not the only one. Have lost several good deer before from being inexperienced and not waiting long enough .. won't do it again.. We all know how to make killing shots I hope.. an inch or 2 can make or break ones day Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

I agree with what you're saying. But if the off shoulder is directly in line with the center of all vitals for that shot. Thays what I take. Instead of aiming back a tad more and trying to catch the back of one lung and the center of the other. Popped lungs are popped lungs no matter what. If I can deflate both lungs with a shot and bury it in a shoulder I will. To ensure I center punch the lungs. And put the deer down faster Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

That's what I was thinking if I had to shoot through the neck it would be up towards the head more. Lots of vitals there. But as for quartering to and from and entering and exiting out the neck I have no problem with that. I just think there's way to much room for error on neck shots (on broadside deer) unless they're looking at you and you can punch one thru their white throat patch Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

How are the turnips coming along?
LET EM GROW replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Idk why, but my neighbor planted his around the 25th of August. Hes a big time food plotter and always pushes for management .. I checked his last week and they barely sprouted an inch or so. And its dry so i think he may have a tough time with producing any greens this year. seems awful late to beplanting them for us in 8P, it was the only chance he had though... -
Ive seen several deer lost to people taking neck shots, probably the reason i dont take them... but i know its all about placement..
-
Dead broadside with a bow, I aim at the crease behind the front shoulder and hold my pin about 1/3 of the way up the back of the shoulder, from the bottom of the chest. For gun, I tend to aim for heart everytime and enter into the backside of the shoulder. Longer range ill keep it double lung tight to the back of the shoulder. Ive passed several very good bucks that only presented neck shots with gun, I dont know why but I would never take them. To this day I still dont know if I would. But I hate letting big bucks go. Where do you guys aim with these neck shots? i know the throat patch will drop them, or anywhere along the windpipe, as well as high front shoulder. I guess I just feel much more confident sending a projectile into the lungs and heart instead..

Mine have come in great, but with this lack of rain the last 2 weeks. and being dry for the year still. they could use rain asap, some are starting to wilt almost. Heres 2 of my brassica plots, taken a week ago -
Nice, i love my browning cams. I got my first hard horn of the year, on 8/28 he was shiny as can be, and was full of velvet on 8/25

Doesn't look more than inch to me.. he turned into this the following year Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

yea, if there is a destination bean field around you, that is where they'll be summer time no doubt. My soybeans did nothing this year. Very minimal plants grew Last year on a neighboring piece, there were soybeans planted in 1 big field and in another big field right next to it there was a different bean planted, not sure what it was. The plant was lighter green in color than soys, and the beans were thinner and longer. Like a green bean, but that was the field the deer preferred. Even over the soybeans. Nearly everyday and night. Giants, young bucks and does, always flooded this field, until they harvested them, End of September they then switched over to soybeans.. Probably half the reason my soybeans did so well last year.

It is summer time, but the neck looks to connect lower in the chest, id say at least 3.5, but I'm going with 4.5yrs. He looks well built around the shoulders. Great deer regardless..

The rain will be the hard part. I don't think they are calling for any for a week or more Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Can't beat that, gonna try overfeeding forage oats and maybe winter wheat this week in my 1 brassica plot Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Same here, I have a beautiful lush clover plot that gets only the attention of a doe or 2 and a fawn here and there. Not one buck. Hardly any fruit on trees. But acorns are starting to drop.. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

Ive got the same problem. I have some friends that are trappers. And will be up on my piece taking care of the problem. They've gotten heavily populated the last 3 years here..

I have a couple dozen mature crab apple trees that normally produce a TON of apples. There is only a few apples per tree this year. Im thinking that late frost in May took its toll on the natural fruit in my area. Even my dozen or so blueberry bushes that normally produce thousands and thousands of berries, had very few berries this year. Kinda sad since the year was so dry and they are awesome early season ambush spots..

Tell me what you think this is...

Trail camera's.....which one?
LET EM GROW replied to maytom's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
Brownings are simple to program. I have 3 now. I've had good luck with cuddebacks and programming them. Though the last one I bought was the ambush. I think I'm only buying browning cams from here on out, not too impressed with bushnell anymore either Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk -
Set my 2016 up over a clover food plot. Going to try the video settings when they start scraping good Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

I'll be buying some crab apples and deer pears, maybe even a few more white oak to plant next month. Maybe some pine for cover Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
