  1. I second the crowded canopy. Open it up if possible. If grass and weeds don't grow well, nothing much else will.. my first ever plot I cut an opening in the hard woods about 30'×30' cut all vegetation off and scraped with a steel hand rake for hours. Then threw throw and grow down. And let the rain do its magic. It grew ok, and was just enough to entice a couple doe groups in to fill a doe tag. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  2. This is my "Murder Plot".. The freshly planted patch of Double Beam in the center, which has sprouted. The spotty green around the fresh dirt, is what used to be thick, lush WI fusion Clover back in end of May. The clover is still there, and real thick yet, but only 2 or 3 inches tall.. We got about 2" of rain in the last week and a half, So im hoping that rain will jump start these clovers some, Corn field to the far right is tasseled and only 3-4ft tall in most spots. Pic taken Friday 8/12
  3. Looks good grow! We got some decent rain as well the pass week or two. Fall is looking better and better especially on your piece lol Take us some " During and After" shots too please lol
  4. I would, but thats me. If there's clover there the deer will paw the leaves and eat it regardless .. but before it gets matted to the ground and is there under the snow, I'd blow it off for the following Springs regrowth .. maybe I'm wrong. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  5. Break out your leaf blower lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  6. I had an extra half a bag of Brassicas from this week, I spread yesterday over some things dead dried out hay field. Got a good soaker before and after.. see if it grows.. even if very little grows I'd consider it success lol.. better than leaving it in a bag I suppose Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  7. Since I've planted mine about 1.5 weeks ago, we've gone form a severe drought at planting, to almost 2" of rain now Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  8. 3.5 maybe 4.5.. 125-130" Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  9. Id definitely have clover growing in there, maybe some chicory too if the deer eat it there. And maybe brassica mix at the other end or vise versa. Room for oppurtunity there! I just like the Looks of the plot, "honey hole"... All my plots but 1 are on the edge of an Ag field.
  10. Checked one brassica plot, that was planted a week ago, and with the .5" of rain we got saturday morning, they were about an inch high yesterday afternoon. And luckily we got a good soaker this morning again so they all should be doing well. Only down fall is i didn't get 2 roll/cultipack my big plot even though the dirt was fairly even anyways.. just wish i could have rolled it in.. oh well a good heavy rain should help it. With broken machines i couldnt spread the Urea i "finally" bought for these plots lol. Might try to hand spread it tonight, weather providing.. Also spread some winter peas onto some recently disked dirt yesterday. In hopes that this rain today and the next few days will bury/germinate the seed, since my tractor and quad are both down for repairs i couldnt drag it in. I Leave for Vacation next week, so If not hopefully ill have them fixed and planted again(if failed) First of Sept. Then done.. Tired of breaking things this year, no time to fix with my recent wedding and vacation.. dang priorities lol
  11. Im not to fluent with this page as much as some, I seem to be able to find my way through. Even though Im sure i miss a ton of posts on threads and such. The only thing that drives me a little crazy is receiving all these notifications on posts .. especially the Beer thread, it fills my email rather fast.. or any that dont stop for that matter, lol Just as simple to delete them I guess, not too worried about it. who knows I am no wheres near as good with computers as i used to be.
  12. I can see some deer getting ambushed here. Looks like a lot of groceries can go here
  13. Im going to add some buckwheat into a mix im planting this week or next.. Like you said it helps the soil and the deer enjoy it.. If my machines let me lol.. Have had the worse luck ever this year with break downs.
  14. We got .5" of rain early Saturday morning in Avoca. Perfect after planting Thursday evening. Calling for more Heavy storms middle end of the week.. Hopefully. Was thinking of putting down some Urea tonight in hopes of on and off rain tomorrow-Saturday..
  15. 1st pic is him last year on Halloween, He came out of a 100acre standing corn field that same morning the pic was taken, 200 yards from the spot hes standing in the pic, but he would not come any closer than 100 yards.. he didnt care for any call i threw at him, grunt, snort wheeze, eventually rattled at him.. nothing other pics are him in Late December of 2013 These are the only pics of him I have handy, without doing some more searching..
  16. Its crazy to see what old age can do to a Bucks rack, compared to years prior.. Im sure this severe drought were in there has some effect on it as well..
  17. With the help of my awesome young little family, our Double Beam Brassica plots are in, They are calling for a decent chance of rain tonight, so last night, the youngsters and I ( my daughter Alivia age 2, Cole age 10, and his friend Charlie 10) went up and put the seeds in the dirt. I love having and letting them help with everything I do, especially in and around camp. Awesome times, and cherished memories for sure, they sure make me a happy dad! My step son Cole, even saved a few seeds himself, separated them within the blend, and planted them at home in a box, individually to see which seed grew which plant, and how well they grow.. He impressed me with that one!
  18. Next year if my equipment lets me, lol.. i will be planting both.. just not sure in what sort of blend yet. I have heard a lot of good about both along with a few others. I want to focus more on summer time foods in one of my big plots, next year and years following. Its something i do not have much of, neither do the neighbors,(we all usually ficus on winter foods, which isnt a horrible thing) and the farmers(especially this year with severe drought) there is no good summer food besides the natural forage, and even in a drought, they wont perform as good as can be.
  19. Im in 8P as well and have a good number of does as usual, not as many deer numbers as in years pass, but still a good number. I dont mind it being low/none if it will bring deer numbers back up some. I can still take a doe with the bow/ML tag during Archery... But i have several neighbors who will just put a DMP tag for another WMU on a doe instead, so its "legally" tagged, just not legally taken.. If they didnt help me out whenever I need it, and vice versa.. id turn them in..
  20. I believe to have a better understanding of where this buck is spending the majority of his time. From seeing him last years, his trail cam pics of last year and so far this year.. We will see as the leaves change color, but i think hes spending the majority of his time in my neighbors sanctuary. I atleast know what his preferred travel routes are. Just have to wait him out and hope no one else ruins it for me. He spends some time on the adjacent neighbors land in which they are careless with everything they do..
  21. Looks alot like my 2015 Archery buck. Good luck with these studs
  22. Put your stands up where you need them, just inside the line facing down the property line or into your property. who cares if there's is 20 or 50 yards away. get there early and beat them to it. Don't let them ruin your hunting, even though it kind of does regardless.. i know how you feel. One of my family properties in Macedon, NY has a very small acre piece that butts into ours... for respect, i stay well over 40 yards from the line and face further into my property. These d*cks put 5 treestands right exactly on the property line facing into my property. To put there very few acres into perspective, its about 50-60 yards wide by maybe 120 yards long. at most, a small rectangle. Ive kicked them off several times before, even finished off a dandy 8 point the guy unloaded his gun on, which i took care of with one well placed Muzzleloader sabot. Every time i see them in stand, i do all i can to ruin there day without being illegal. at that point idc if i saw a deer for weeks, as long as they do not either.. its a convenience for them because they live next door to the land owner. Worst part about it is thats hunting, and thats the greed within many hunters.. no respect for anyone else...
  23. Showed back up again, this year with even more mass than before it seems, as well as some "junk".. i have history with this deer back to 2013, that I'm aware of. This fall he is 6.5yr or older. in 2013 he is at least a 3.5yr old.. Still have a few cards to pull. hopefully the other 2 old guys are on them..
