  1. My backyard plot fall planting of Cereal Rye, Crimson and Balansa Clovers being rolled and terminated over the top of the already broadcasted NDA soybeans, Annual and Perennial Clovers as well as Black Oil Sunflowers.. had a good rain after planting. Let’s see how it goes. We enjoy watching them from the house Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. It won’t hurt anything. Freezing temps are not wanted when beans sprout. That’s about it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. That’s probably part of your problem, IMO you want turnip bulbs to be about baseball size softball at the very most. Younger less woody plants are more preferred typically. The bigger the plant and bulb the more woody it is. Which comes back to preference. Smaller bulbs are more sweet and tasteful Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Agreed completely. In my neck of the woods, 1st week of august would make softball size bulbs in an average growing season. That’s when I shoot for slinging winter seeds. I do like to save a bit of seed and throw it a couple weeks later to have the best of both worlds. If I know I’ll have time to be back to spread more anyways. But agreed completely. 6. I know I enjoy this more than actually hunting LOL. Weird I know Awesome! I’d save the peas and oats for fall. Spread the clover over top lightly after you plant your big seeds. Unless your planting round up ready and intend to spray them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Whichever you choose keep us posted with pics too if you think of it. I love this stuff. Best of luck sir! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I wouldn’t give up as it is a good food source. And maybe just put more different seeds into your blend, and remember fall planted clovers don’t do much anything until spring. Lots of options still for winter foods.. But your soybeans are even better as far as winter protein and along with corn for carbs and energy. Can’t hurt in trying sir. YouJust will have to put the fertilizer to the corn. Also, if you do go this route, and broadcast together and plan to shoot into this plot. A ton of random placed(broadcasted) corn stalks within a bean field will limit your shot opportunities. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Sometimes it does take several years to get deer to eat winter plots. Are you surrounded by heavy agriculture ? I heard the same thing from heavy ag areas. There could be a few things keeping them from eating them. This is one reason why I like big seed blends, they like one seed, they are bound to eat all the others at some point. Plus each seed is preferred at a little different time in season and at different temperatures. Also, I found in areas that they don’t seem to touch the brassica tops or bulbs much.. add a blend of cold hardy annual clovers in with it or next to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I would take corn out of your blend if it were me. Corn is good but if you only have one plot. There is far better choices IMO. A big legume mix let the deer feed in it throughout summer .. kill half of it or 2/3 of it late July. Do a brassica/ bulb blend for winter and then in late august kill the remainder of the plot and do a big cool season blend of cereals, clovers, radish, peas and maybe some more soybeans. You will certainly pull deer. 100% that’s what I would do. Corn requires a lot of fertilizer for good results. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. The best way IMO when broadcasting corn is to leave shallow rows where your disc or drag cuts, broadcast your corn over the plot. This way most of the corn seed will fall into these rows your tines or discs just cut. Then go back and run a drag of some sort over the top to knock the high rows down. This will cover your corn seeds and flatten your plot out some. Now that your plot will be somewhat smooth, spread your soybeans over the top. IF rain isnt immediately following, roll or pack this plot in. Soybeans can sit on top of that soil and rain will germinate them with absolutely zero issues. Corn seeds needs to be covered. I hope the crows and birds don't pick all your corn sprouts out of the ground once they pop lol. As for your radish and oats, do them in a separate plot. Corn does not like competition and is a real nutrient hog. And if your doing this for summer, id probably choose a different blend of seeds. Unless this will be a fall planted plot.
  12. Doing all no till this year. Since I can’t keep up with the weeds. Fall planted Cereal Rye with Crimson, Balansa And frosty berseem clovers. To add nitrogen and aid in soil health. I am rolling this over to snap the stalks and kill the plants in the direction my plant rows will be. Then will take a shovel and make a small troughs for corn seeds to drop in. And in the other areas will just dig a small enough hole to drop growing vegetables plants in then lay the dead cover crop over the soil. To protect from harsh sun rays and keep the soil more damp and cool. It’s a win win.. planting a bunch of corn in hopes the kids will help sell and they can pocket the funds. 13. A little late here but figured I would update, my brother and I have chased this one bird all season. He is visible from the road and there are very few houses on this rd. SO Id imagine he gets called to and most certainly tresspassed on when we arent around even though we have it posted. We've caught people trying to get on this bird, and others in the past few years form the road. Anywho, My brother has worked like hell to pattern this bird and did so opening week, He Got in early where he was roosted. But got to close. He was right underneath him.. bird flew down(away from him) at close to the max range he wants to shoot. So he took a shot and missed as he was working away towards the property line.. boom, miss, bird flew away.. After that the bird changed his roost patterns, when my bro had time he'd run an hr south to the lease and try and roost this bird as much as possible. He picked up his new roost pattern and for a half dozen sits we tried to get this bird dead. Close every time but could not seal the deal. We finally found the exact tree he was roosted in and my brother went back in a few days later. Bird flew down almost into his lap and started putting immediately... he let him get out a bit further and took a shot.. and missed again.. bird flies away. That was Friday and he said Saturday and Sunday the bird was back in the same general location early am. This bird will not come to calling. Will gobble no problem.. he has 2 jakes and 3 hens he hangs with on and off all day everyday. Pretty sure hes a younger tom.. For me the bird gets the pass til next year. but my brother is going to try and connect with him this weekend again. If he lives hes gonna be a smart a$$ bird lol He likes to roost on a beautiful ridge and in one of the prettiest hardwood ridges ive seen.. his 2 typical go to roost spots.. about 300 yards apart End of rant. lol. bird numbers sure seem low as noted before...
  14. My daughter had her third game Saturday. We have 4 coed teams and I help coach our team. Our kids have come so far in just a few practices and 3 games. The kids that could hit, now hit better. And the kids that couldn’t are now hitting the ball. Their gloves are getting in front of the ball more and they are still having fun. I love it. I work on their batting forms and swings as well as field play and direction of the ball. I love my Saturday’s more than ever now. We were supposed to have picture day Saturday but the kids either showed late or left early. I have to give my hats off to these coaches, they are all younger women. I couldn’t believe it, hardly a father figure anywhere until a game then a couple show up. We don’t do outs, they all hit once per inning through the lineup, and after 4-5 swings and misses they get the T .. then take the field. My little girl put 1 in the outfield and 2 ground balls to short stop. And she loved this sport. LOL proud dad here. She’s def one of the top 3 if not the top player on the team. She puts forth the effort and isn’t out there building dirt angels or sand castles LOL. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Hate to say It but im never live from the woods. I get very little time to myself these days so when im in the woods, i only check the phone if I need to check the time.. And typically update here at a much later date .. My sincere apologies lol
  16. That is neat, I dont recall ours having that on the front. Ill have to check and see and look into this. Looking for a grinder as well.
  17. Kinda of looks like curly dock.. But ive lost my knowledge on plant identification. Download the what is it app. Plant identification .. its really neat!
  18. Deer still get up and eat several times a day. This doesn't mean they have to eat in the same open field visible from the road or treestand every time. If pressure persists, they still eat, just much closer to their bedding location.. or away from where pressure is picked up.. As mentioned above, set cameras in hidden locations(well camouflaged and not obvious) in areas away from fields and more towards deer bedrooms, they eat on and off all day long. Pressure is the worst thing for deer activity, but it still doesn't mean they go nocturnal. I couldn't imagine bedding down before daylight and not getting up to move or eat until after dark, everyday...
  19. Coyotes are built to survive, If you eliminate a few they will turn around and have a higher litter the following year. The coyote is an all mighty machine of survival. The way the disperse after their first year or so of life is to protect from inbreeding and protect populations. If their local population is high, they have fewer pups, if the population is low, they will have more pups per litter. They are really a cool animal to follow. You can literally hunt them all year and you wont wipe them out. Coyotes will only live where they can thrive. And this state is full of that.. IF they eat mostly deer sized animals they will be bigger in size, if they eat more small game than anything, there sizes tend to be smaller(Western yotes). This state could most certainly let coyote season open all year and they would most certainly survive. It may mess the population for a year or two but they would come back..
  20. My daughter is playing her first year of baseball at 6 years old. She is super determined to conquer. And probably tries the hardest out of the entire team. We’ve been practicing most nights and she can hit the ball better and farther than most of the team if not the whole team. Makes me proud as baseball is my favorite. She’s down and ready with every pitch .. I also get the joys of assistant coach as most know 6yr olds aren’t always cooperative LOL. Love it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. The floor is good, there is one soft spot starting in the rear port side of the boat, back by rear seat. Otherwise its solid.
