  1. I usually buy plants. I think ill start some seeds this week. GHet the kids involved
  2. You stated it best with your last sentenced, is a mix! You want to add good diversity to every plot for the best attraction. Unless you have a half dozen big sized plots you can offer more.. Also diversity is good for the soil. A good seed blend will keep deer in your plot more times than not compared to a monoculture planting. As far as Brassicas go, The tops always get eaten first. The bulbs get eaten as the available tops become rotten or all eaten. I like to offer Purple Top Turnips, Daikon Radish, and Rutabaga for bulbs in my brassica plots, The radish tends to get eaten sooner as it rots quicker, And the Rutabaga is a sweeter version or a PTT. Also try to keep these bulbs no bigger than softballs if you can(Planting Date Driven). Then add some Brassicas that dont produce bulbs, Like winfred brassica. It will grow 3ft tall and they'll eat it right to the ground just about, stalk and all. I also like to mix in cold hardy Annual clovers like balansa and Frosty berseem. These clovers will cover the gap in height above the bulb, and below th ebrassica leaf. Making a thick lush plot with available fall winter foods regardless of the temperature! And the plan for most of us is to keep deer on the plot as much as possible. and not in the neighbors. Just make sure with seed blends, seeds of the same size are broadcast together, and bigger seeds spread separate for the best coverage.
  3. sweet! A buddy of mine made one from scratch as a pull behind for his quad. its a super simple idea and works pretty well. Might be tough to cut a 2.5" trench for corn seeds but smaller seeds and beans works great. As the tow behind roller is what applies the down pressure and packs the trench back up. Certainly isnt a several thousand dollar piece of equipment but is awesome.
  4. Theres powder everywhere. Especailly if you willing to drive an hour outside the city.. Ive bought RL 7, RL16, RL19, Varget, H380, and many other common powders in the last few months. Its there, you may jus thave to hit a half dozen shops to get what you need. I know a place in PA that has everything most anyone will want or need. As they control how much can be purchased.
  5. I just picked up an ATI Cavalry in 28ga.. Anyone here shoot one? IT was closest to my budget and I shot the 410 model for trap shooting, a few years back and loved it. This gun will be my go to turkey gun with TSS handloads, as well as Trap and Bunny hunting with the neighbors beagles. Cant wait to use it. Ive wanted a O/U for many many years.. And felt 28 would fit the void perfectly as I dont have either, the gauge gun nor the style.
  6. I have a peach tree in my in laws that grew from a pit that was tossed in the yard.. IT puts on a TON of fruit every year, and the tree is only 8 or 9 years old. Grows fast. IT puts on so much fruit it breaks branches and droops them to the ground every year. My grandfather in law "uses" the fallen fruit. and it is consumed quick lol.
  7. Our Walmart in Hornell did too a week or so ago.
  8. They will only shhip to an ffl correct?
  9. Probably a breeding pair.. spanked.
  10. PA, i found some last week. well 223 Varmint. Trying to find primers. been to 9 different gun shops after my quarantine was up
  11. I enjoy the show, its not bad, not great. Better than most all other shows in TV .. But again.. its TV and the majority is not real life.. got to make it look good.. but when nothing else is on.. ill most certainly watch this..
  12. This year I started mixing in raccoon sounds during sets, especially in areas i know the racoons are thick. Or move a set closer to the den trees after nothing has come in and run racoon distress.. as they are bad bad turkey eggs eaters. and my turkey population is not what it used to be..
  13. Find Den trees and setup 50 yards from them and run raccoon distress calls. if nothing comes in 10 minutes. Move on to the next one.
  14. Nothing says you have to wait. IT just depends how frequent they are in that specific area. You can hunt it, or wait until they find it. You never know unless your there or have surveillance over it. Im in a fairly dense coyote population at my house, I put out 2 deer scraps form ML season, It took them 3 weeks to find it. Or at least hit it anyways. While the fox, skunk and raccoons took pc at a time. Once the coyotes found it.. Gone overnight.. If your time is limited, hunt when you can, if you can hunt anytime, might be best to wait til they hit it(you checking up on it everyday midday) and once they do find it, go setup on it where the wind is in your favor and so your access won't screw up your hunt. Pressure is the last thing you want to put on coyotes.. Ive also noticed cameras over bait dont "always" help either unless you can hide it well, even the IR flash..
  15. The new Rhino blinds you can see through!
  16. My wifes family including my stepson go to their family barns and shoot pigeons every sunday out of the Cow barns. They enjoy it, good times good laughs, memories made.
  17. Cant wait to get into my property with a saw.. I have a ton of poplar that will get dropped and be instant deer foods and cover. Have a few acre wood lot that will get thinned out to promote sunlight to the forest floor. And on our lease i want to thicken up a few small pockets of woods/brush to promote small bedding locations. A chainsaw is a land managers best friend for sure..
  18. Lets see your results if you get to pattern them, that'd be fun. If you have bore mics or calipers, could you measur ethat chokes bore diameter Been looking online and I cant seem to find it, But watched a youtube video and a guy says its the equivalent of a full choke, just designed differently. Plz and thanks. I just picked up 5 12ga 2-3/4" Tungsten 3s. And hoping to have a few more made up for the 20ga this week. Got a different recipe from a buddy and a few tips to tighten up the pattern. Its just so hard to come by things anymore. I will be buying more shot soon though before its gone with the turkey gurus.
  19. Yes sir, Need to get some daytime shotgunning in to try these soul takers out! lol
  20. Whipped up a few Coyote loads for the 20ga.. Made Some 2x4 duplex's, straight 2s, and straight 4s in 1-3/8oz They are too expensive to waste on the pattern board without a Shot trap.. But 2 shots with 2 different chokes a .562 Sumtoy and a Factory Full. ..I Cant complain too much.. I do think I need to adjust the powder charge as the shot is way more patchy than I like.. Or a choke in between, This Seems to be too much wasted shot.. But it will work for now.. I have more shot coming to tinker with. These were at 60 yards.. Im thinking dead coyote out to 75+ with the tighter Choke, 60 Yards or so with the Full choke.. The #2tSS get 4" of gel penetration at 115 yards The #4tss gets 4" of gel penetration out to 85 yards Bad coyote medicine right there.. Just like anything, its hard to get ahold of materials these days.. These also act as my home defense loads as well
  21. What tripod is that? the Slik700? Looking to upgrade one of mine and ball head..
  22. Just sent an email to that address, Thank you sir!
  23. 12/25/20 Finally got out for our first sets of the year over Holiday Break. Our new tradition as of 2019 is to Predator hunt all night on Christmas Night. Well The wind was brutal so we hit a couple spots out of the wind and called in a dog, and let my brother and 15yr old son take the shots, and they missed. Hate it when that happens. Was a quiet night, no vocals were heard. I run the caller and shotgun when there is 3 of us or more and let everyone else run the rifles. I just like watching everyone else having fun lol. If its just 2 of us I will get behind the rifle. 3 sets and done, weather sucked.. 1/2/21 MAde a plan where we were going to hunt hard as conditions were quiet and calm and the skies were dark.. My son, my brother, My good friend and I.. The night was stupid slow, very quiet, the walking sucked, it was so dang loud with thin covering of ice but we were still having fun.. I could hear deer walking through the snow at 300 yards.. After 5 sets and chasing around lost and forgotten items lol, we Decided our last set would be just after midnight on a piece of ground that has plenty of dogs.. Got nestled in and let out some vocals, instantly had a group answer back.. Tried them but they just didnt wanna play, Or they did and got our wind just out of our sight since they were already slightly in that direction as the wind was swirling.. but we tried it carefully.. At the 35minute mark we decided we had enough, and for only the second time that night I tried a prey distress, just as the sound was finishing up my buddy scanned back near the rd with his thermal and lucky us.. detection! coming in quick.. told my brother and my boy whom were safe to get on the coyote to get ready quick.. The call shut off, and i quickly fired up another prey distress but very low in volume and This female snuck her way in behind an island to about 30 yards from the call and about 120 yards then .. I told the 2 of them, when she stops ill count to 3 and they can double tap her... The count to 3 came and they both shot near simultaneously followed by a 3rd from my buddy as the Yote was doing her death spin.. she's down quick.. Nice 35# Female
