  1. Yes, that is exactly what i wanted to do. get an inexpensive front hi viz bead on there. Thanks for the idea!
  2. Yes! the entire concept of just going small and still getting the job done. Its great lol
  3. Acquired this NE .410 Fixed Full barrel over the weekend. I dont know why but single shots are my absolute favorite.. One and done lol Put a few expensive small game loads together too with my own design and machined roll crimp tool. 2.5" 1/2oz load of TSS 9s
  4. 25-06 all day. It will be my next Deer Rifle. Like to get one in Tikka as well.
  5. I had a Springer Spaniel named Molly as a teen that ended up going with my dads gf at the time when they split.. but she was getting pretty good at flushing some Pheasants. I miss that girl.
  6. I love hunting over dogs. Ever since i got to watch them work Rabbits and do just what they're trained to do. It was an amazing warm feeling. I rescued a beagle named Toby last winter and we got out once, he was not scared of brush and put his nose right into them as he followed the others. No rabbits that day but he seemed to be doing what he should be. Hoping to get him out this weekend or next. I also have a good friend who lives in VA, I made him some Tungsten deer loads to try this year. Well they worked phenomenal .. and wants me to come down next year for a weekend of pushes. Sounds like a lot of fun.. There's real joy watching a dog work the woods with its nose..
  7. Mature bucks within their own core area, certainly do pattern us 100%. They setup at their advantage typically, on our access points. That's why its best to build them habitat they will use and benefit them but keep them from seeing us enter and exit..
  8. Red Oiser Dogwoods? cut them at an angle with a couple scions well above you cutting, add a dab of root growth compound to it and push it into the ground. I would fence them for year one. Push them in the ground Late winter when the ground begins to thaw.. This way you dont have to worry about winter messing with them. As for your fruit shrubs, just seed them at home and when they sprout, and are tall enough, plant them and cage / short tube them. You should be able to cut blueberry branches and add root compound to them and push them into the ground as well, doesn't work every time but I've had it work. My blueberries are huge and plentiful
  9. Have shot the Winchesters, The 777 Winchesters and cci.. they all seemed to shoot the same. OR not to where I noticed any difference.
  10. Percolator is where its at.. But my Bunn is still treating me well. And i love my coffee. I would like to spend more time with a percolator some day and get it right.. Each time i use it its too strong, but so flavorful!
  11. I'm not far from you, East of swain 10 minutes, and Glyphosate is safe if used/applied properly. Skin covered, and face ventilation. A natural DIY Weed killer is mixing 1 gallon Vinegar with 1 cup Table salt and 1 TBS dawn dish soap(Helps vin/salt stick to plant) This will kill the roots but takes time.. May want to try an experiment with this first. Also, to get a good kill, you must spray the plant(whether its GLY or DIY mixture) when the plant is green and actively growing.. not in drought or cold conditions.. With That being said, A large Tarp is how many "Hobbyist No Till Garden folk" keep weeds from growing is by using a large tarp. By using a large Tarp you have to apply even weight across the entire tarp to keep the weight of the tarp down to the soil. Otherwise you will still get growth to pop your tarp up. This will kill the existing vegetation but isn't always a great practice, you'd probably have to amend your soils when you plan on planting. There are other No till methods you can try as well. As in timing your plantings directly before a rain, where you can seed into the area and then mow as low as possible a couple times to make sure cut vegetation isn't thick and bulky.. the rain would germinate your seed, and if your seed is on top of soil and below the dead cut vegetation.. you'll have a food plot. IT may not be an absolute perfect weed free plot but it will certainly draw wildlife depending on the seeds planted and if planted at the right time of year. you can also keep an area mowed low, so the soil is exposed in and around the existing vegetations roots/stem system seed and then roll over with a lawn roller after a rain when ground is soft and with rain following.. On top of that, Use of a chainsaw is #1 on the list, And by releasing Native hard and soft mast trees you can create wild organic food sources. Plant new orchards and maintain them, add pollinator clovers in and around your trees to keep the bees nearby. A chainsaw will also double in effect as you can add bedding cover, create travel corridors and so much more.. Especially if you and your neighbor work together.. The more the merrier when it comes to aiding wildlife..
  12. I follow these guys quite a bit throughout the winter. They just started with using dogs this year. There's a couple guys out there that are phenomenal with their dogs, I would love to have one or at least see one live here in NY do the same things..
  13. Yes. And i believe it has to do with less hunters in the woods, and also more people waiting on bigger better bucks.. LAck of doe tags within certain areas and available land access..
  14. I still go, i just pass on certain animals certain days or in certain places.. due to what it would take to care for said downed animal etc..
  15. I joined a lease a 1/2 mile down the road with some other guys who were gracious enough to let me join. I don't get to spend the time with them that id like to but at least get to communicate and live through it with group texts back and forth. My son is my priority right now and he needs me. For now and the future moving forward, its all about the kids, mine and their friends, getting them involved and making smiles. I'm not to worried about me living those days again, but I want todays youths to be involved in the outdoors, with Time and as my kids grow, we will be able to get back to my roots and enjoy camp how it should be..
  16. You sure do! My brother is living at ours currently. And the intel is great having him there.
  17. If they can go deeper and deeper is much safer and less pressured sure thing!! .. but in many and or most instances that's not the case.. This is why i just let the place calm down for 2 weeks after Thanksgiving then go back in last weekend of rifle.. You either need to make them move from their safe bedding cover or wait them out until they start showing less nocturnal patterns
  18. accidental "spotlight" discharge.. heard one just before 6am saturday.. I guessed 627 in my area and it was 630.. 8P
  19. I hope you guys can still reconnect a time or two each fall. Hope he can make the drive up or you can meet in the middle or possibly hunt FL deer? I know how you feel, I didn't get to enjoy it as long as you did. But my hunting camp weve owned for 30 years now. It was my dad, my b rother myself, my grandfather, dads best bud and his son. It was great times. good laughs, good memories, My dad passed in '16.. and his buddy did a few months ago. His son and I as well as my brother want to kind of get back to our roots as kids but its hard with life, I cant hunt a whole lot with my family needs. Id be lucky to stay the night at camp without them a night a year. It just doesn't feel the same anymore and its a bit sad to say the least. But i guess that's life for some.. I started hunting at camp before legal age and now at 36 my brother and I own the property together. ITs still my home away from home. I just don't get to use it as often as id like.. even though im only 30 minutes away at most. Drive over hunt quick, head home.. Kind of takes the joy out of hunting some days.. Probably why i rarely hunt solo anymore.. I enjoy the comradery more than the hunt itself..
  20. Dang where have i been, I didn't know people were leaving here, it did seem a little quiet here lately. What site are these people moving too? Would love to see what they have to say and who lol I did see a couple bucks shot from guys that were here that got posted on FB but not on here..
  21. Hope to make it out! Im never ready, besides being legal lol. I did check zero on 2 rifles yesterday quick after work though.
  22. The spine drops low behind the shoulders. around 4-5inches down from the top of a deer's back behind the shoulders is dead square in the spine. Above that is a backstrap hit if it didn't drop on impact, and if below the spine (didn't drop on impact) your into the lung(s) liver spleen or other organs depending on how far back it was hit.. The spine comes back up higher towards the back as you reach the hind quarters..
  23. Yep We've all been there.. In the heat of that moment, between the eyes, the brain and heart it can really get you thinking. lol.
  24. True, but some shot placements require the animal to be pushed to exhaustion if you want to recover. That's why its the hunters responsibility to pay best attention to the hit, the shot angle, the deer's stance, the deer's reaction, the penetration, and the deer's moves how and where after the hit.. etc They all give clue on to where(Organs) the deer is it.. and make a decision there. There are hits that any good dog tracker will tell you the deer must be pushed(Single lung hits). I've had the pleasure of calling a dog to track my buck that didn't go 100 yard sin thick golden rod. It taught me a lot, and we still keep in touch over the years still. There are certain hits that require pushing the deer to weaken the animal and there's others that require time to expire as they should in bed #1-how ever many..
  25. If possible i call someone to come pick me up. the vehicle wont pressure them as much as them seeing you. Thats when they blow, and will get your wind to learn you.. I mean if you cant be picked up youll have to wait til dark dark and climb down as quietly a spossible and go around with wind in your favor for less impact as possible.. Called my brother a few weekends ago to get me .. there was 34 deer in the field all around me and i was in a ground blind along a ditch they cross.. he came and picked me up. You can also coyote howl,
