  1. Was going to say that too. Looks like a patch of some sort on his left shoulder, can you zoom in and read it?
  2. Another way to look at this is, look at all the firepower that was unleased during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars (plus the Syrian revolt, plus the Russkies in Afghanistan) and we never did completely pacify those areas. And if there are tactical nukes being used on American soil we have got bigger problems than anyone ever imagined.
  3. Point being that in NY auto insurance is required by law and you pay out the nose. My best friend from high school moved to TN where auto insurance wasn't mandatory and the same guy with the same driving record insured the same vehicles for 1/7th the cost.
  4. Oh yeah, cause that has worked so well with auto insurance.
  5. Gettin' while the gettin's good.

  6. Guess I'll let you know first then because I think mine is up before that.
  7. A wise man once wrote "accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed." Well fella's everyone has to make their own decision and live with the result, but I'm done suffering and now I'm starting to take the steps to right myself. Unfortunately in order to cut loose from all the bad I also have to abandon the good, but I truly believe that in the long run it will be the best for me and my family's future.
  8. I got mine a couple years ago so I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it had changed. Do you know about renewals?
  9. I have a Centre County PA permit. All I did was fill out the one page application, mail it to them with a check for $25 a copy of my NYS permit and (maybe) a copy of my NY drivers license. Didn't even have to enclose a photo (other than the ones on my license and permit). Mailed in on a Tuesday and that Saturday my PA permit was in the mailbox.
  10. NY = 8.2% unemployment. ND = 3.2% SD = 4.4% The Mercatus Institute's "Freedom in the 50 States" has NY ranked dead last. In the next year or two I'll have a 2006 built 2100 sq/ft (plus nearly finished basement) colonial on 48 acres for sale if you want it. Minutes from the NYS Thruway, tillable land leased to a crop farmer, bordering County land, teeming with wildlife. Super efficient boiler, radiant floor heat, steel roof and great neighbors. It'll be the one with the sign out front that says "For sale due to Cuomo". I'll even put in a good word for you where I work, maybe you can get my job to go along with my house. I wish I was joking.
  11. I started out thinking the same way, and still do in part. What tipped me over the edge was when I realized that I could live in SD in a house that was valued the same as the one I have now, and if I paid up front the same $ amount in property taxes as I have in NY in the last 6 years, I wouldn't have to pay them again for about 50 - 60 years.
  12. Be good to have when you're walking into and out of your stand in the dark to protect against mountain lions. Sorry, couldn't resist.
  13. As I understand it, they don't have to do the NICS for private sales but they still have to do the checks and recordkeeping for ammo if they sell it.
  14. Local gun shop owner is closing his doors. Says he doesn't want to do it but he isn't going to stay in business to spend all his time doing paperwork for NYS. Way to keep people working and businesses open Guv, ya dooshe-nozzle!
  15. Yes. Posession of any detachable magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds is illegal after the date to get rid of them has passed.
  16. Don't know in this particular instance, but most of these laws say that if one person possesses all of the parts to make an illegal weapon it still counts even if they're not assembled.
  17. They need to be "Permanently modified" so as long as you can't remove the spacer they'll be legal, for now. I was at my favorite local dealer today and he had already lined up someplace that was going to modify mags for him to make them NY compliant. Ruger already makes 5 round 10/22 mags. It's not impossible to get the obsolete ammo. It just has to be shipped to the dealer and not to you. Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely, totally, 100% against this whole steaming pile of garbage law, but for the immediate future is mainly a huge nuisance. Just make sure you stock up on your components now before they come after them too. For now I'm doing whatever I need to in order to stay out of trouble long enough to plan my escape from NY and head West.
  18. Except that a lot of us don't even buy licenses anymore. I bought my Lifetime right before the increase and do a lot of my hunting behind my house.
