  1. Target shooting I just use muffs. I've always been tempted to go the electronic route but just have this bad feeling about ending up with a defective pair that amplify instead of muffling and blow my eardrums out. I started using the Otis Ear Shields for goose hunting after I read an article in a magazine about them and I really like them. Light and muffle well but still allow you to hear talking and stuff. I don't understand how they work, black magic I guess, but all that matters is that they do.
  2. Once you accept your fate and get past the initial disappointment it's not so bad. Kinda' like being the smallest, prettiest guy in prison.
  3. Just got back from 20 days of vacation, most of that spent in the Big Woods, and happy to report that I still belong to the club.
  4. Ummm, nice buck, but take your dead deer and go to the dead deer thread with the other deer killers you danged deer killer. This thread is for the non-deer killers. Stupid deer killers and their stupid dead deer anyway.
  5. I sat in one stand twice and watched a buck 400 yds away work a scrape and then walk under my other stand. The next night I sat in that stand and watched a buck walk down the edge of the field past the first stand. Sat in #3 at the other farm for several hours seeing a bunch of squirrels, gave up at dark, walked out and stepped into the field and had 16 deer blast off in all different directions. Saw a spike and a tall narrow 8 from stand #2 the night before Halloween but couldn't coax the 8 in close enough. Walking down to the house and see what appears to be 3 does and a buck in the back yard 30' from the kids swingset. Mere moments later I get a call from the wife "Hey dummy, you're up in the woods and there are three does and a buck 30' from the kids swingset". Night before last back in stand #1 and watched a buck walking down the side of the road in front of my house. The best morning I had was when I said heck with it, threw my bow stuff back in the car, switched to the shotgun, threw out my meager spread of a dozen flats and a dozen socks, shot two geese and went home. But on the lighter side of the news, starting 15:15 on Thursday I am on vacation until the day before Thanksgiving!
  6. Pictures like the first two make me wonder why I screw around with stands and blinds and things. I should just hang the trail cam on my chest and stand up against a tree and wait!
  7. I like sardines but don't get them much anymore. When I was a kid the ones my old man always bought were smaller. It seems like the ones you get now are always so big. Had a can one time only had 4 in it.
  8. I pay a lot of taxes here and it didn't stop the governor from telling me that I wasn't wanted in NY because of my beliefs.
  9. What is in pics 3 and 4? A landmine? That's one way to get 'em!
  10. Yep. It fits right in the corner. There are hangers on both sides for more flexibility in placement, but I only use one. It's nice if you already have a couple traditional wall mounts and want something different, or have an odd spot in a room.
  11. Keep in mind they are flip phone pictures so not the highest quality.
  12. He patented is as I understand. When I got the 11 and was going to have him mounted my wife said ok but she wanted to pick the pose. She wanted a corner to make the room symmetrical. "Ok honey, you're twisting my arm but I'll spend extra on that corner mount if it means that much to you." It was the first one Randy had ever done.
  13. Nice job. Make sure you set aside about 47 hours apiece to flesh those danged greasy things.
  14. I was going to suggest Lou Spina as well but I didn't know if he was still doing it. He did my first buck and did my 9pt in a corner mount. I also liked the work done by Randy Thieme at Randy's Taxidermy in Vernon Center. He did my 7pt with the drop tine and an 11pt in a corner mount for the opposite corner.
  15. I've been looking for something for this. I like the Montecs too but have a devil of a time trying to get them good and sharp. I just have an extra set I dulled the edges on for practice.
  16. Mine never get very dirty. They only seem to go from the quiver to the rest and back again.
  17. I'm off all but 8 days in November. In our camp we've killed the most bucks in the teens in November.
  18. I only use it for 3 minutes so how long does it really need to last? You don't leave the TV on if nobody's watching it.
  19. This whole conversation reminds me of an old story about a tactical wheelbarrow.
  20. Instead of clamping around the forearm you could just bolt through the forearm.
  21. For the heck of it one year I put a wand on my air compressor and slid it under the skin and popped it loose. Worked better than I expected, but not as good as I'd hoped.
  22. We got married on opening day of Northern rifle. Doh!
