  1. Awesome! Hoping to see a few pics in the "First Shot" thread soon!
  2. Most people use the term AR, I think more or less it's like people who like the .30-06 call it the "ought 6". But, I agree, it's not the correct term. I try to say AR STYLE when talking, I don't always. Like I keep saying though, when the only factual ( I use factual very loosely here ) information you have is from the media, you cannot make a rational decision about anything, not just guns. The way the world has been for a long time if 100 people say it's bad, then it must be bad. Doesn't matter if 50,000,000 say it's not. It's about fitting in and going with the "crowd". The huge thing I try to explain to people is that they are no more dangerous then any other rifle of the same caliber or a handgun loaded with 15+1.
  3. Yeah, that shift is bad when you have kids, third isn't much better. Third you run yourself ragged trying to sleep, work, and get time with the family.
  4. It's a bit farther north. It's a "Forever Wild" type of site. If you are into fishing look it up. There's the Ausable River, Franklin Falls, Union Falls, plus the fishing right at Taylor is great. It's not really close to any towns or cities. It's not full on "remote", but you would think it is. They have a main camp ground, and they have 5 lean two's you can stay in as well. To stay in the lean two's you just have to pay for daily parking. They rent row boats and canoes. Just a note, if the wind is up, do NOT take a canoe to the lower end unless you know WTH you are doing with a canoe. I have mentioned this place before. When we started going there they only had a old pump well for water. Now they have spickets. But, last time I looked up ( last Summer ), still no showers and one stall potties. Its camping. Not "glamping".
  5. Mighty hearty food for someone who just had a root canal. Self medication must be working.
  6. That's a good shift. I worked it for years. Plenty of time to get in the woods for a morning hunt ans still get a few things done around the house. If you are single, like I was at the time, Friday nights were great. By the time you went home and showered, grabbed a bite to eat and hit the bars it was prime picking for the cute women. Also, this post was a test using my phone. Now that I can actually use my phone to get in here I might be more active in the "Live From" threads. Time will tell. Still don't see me playing on my phone while I am trying to kill a deer or turkey.
  7. Kind of chilly tonight. I like it. Sent from my XT830C using Tapatalk
  8. That's what all women say, and it's not true! LOL
  9. Or tomorrow... Glad this is the web and there is no smell-o-vision yet.
  10. I hope this isn't hijacking, but has anyone besides me ever camped at Taylor Pond in the Daks? I miss the heck out of getting up there.
  11. Sorry to hear of your loss. Been 15 years since I lost my mother to cancer. Still get depressed at times when fishing or camping at places we used to go. You never get over it, you just learn to accept it. Glad you are back on the horse and ready to go again. Good luck this season.
  12. You have some prime property there Biz. If it was mine, I would put a 14X20 shed up, insulate it, and make a camp. Or at the least a canvas wall tent, wood stove, good cots, and a folding table. I would be spending a lot of time there.
  13. Nice on the granite. I hear ya on the sink.
  14. I don't see an issue with it. As long as the mentor ( parent or not ) knows how to hunt, and hopefully have hunted bear before.
  15. One thing I started doing a long time ago for deer hunting is not wearing my hunting clothes to or from the hunt. I put them on when I get there, and unless I get a deer, they go back in the tote when I head home. Small game and turkey, I don't worry about it too much. If a turkey winds me, that's one awesome bird!
  16. First things to do with a package bow, get rid of the quiver, arrow rest, and sights. Upgrade all of them! Most times, they are cheap, like buying a gun & scope package, good rifles with bad glass. Have a shop help set it up like you plan to. If they have a range shoot a few arrows to make sure it's sighted in at least with OK groups ( 6" ), you can tweak it and dial it in tight later. Don't go too light on arrows. If you plan to shoot 50-55 lbs then get carbon arrows that at minimum are rated to 60#'s.
  17. Knowing the limitations of myself and my gear. If my comfortable range with a bow is 30 yards, I hope for closer then 25. Always tell people where I will be and a time I will be back.
  18. Looks good. Going granite or marble for the counter tops?
  19. I use Ivory soap to shower when going hunting. I also use it to wash my hunting clothes. Then I will put a few pine bows in the plastic container with my hunting clothes. If you dunk them in a creek, while they are drying on a line they will still end up smelling like what ever is on the wind that's drying them. It sounds good in theory though.
  20. OH! There's one huge factor many don't think about when getting permission. Recovery rights. I have a thread about this. Just because you have permission to hunt 50 acres doesn't mean the surrounding land owners will let you go get your deer.
  21. The only thing I don't agree with watching this is the youth or "millennials" are having jobs taken due to immigrants. They are lazy and don't want to put their head up from a phone, pad, or other device long enough to actually work. Social media and an "app" for everything is making people lazy. Not just kids.
  22. I wish I could have been there. We don't see much of this in my area. I would love to go and learn something, and just meet other hunters in the area. Glad it was a great turnout and people enjoyed the effort people put in to sharing knowledge!
  23. If you camp on a regular basis, and sit outside around the camp fire, you know for a fact you have gulped more then a few bugs, you only have to worry when it just won't go down.
  24. That's a good point. Many feel that if you are gun hunting and are shooting 100 yards motion isn't a big deal. I would always rather be shooting slightly down at game with a rifle. That's just me.
  25. Oh, I agree 100%. If I wasn't afraid of heights these days I would have a climber for sure. I just don't think having a tree stand is better or worse on public or private land. Deer get killed on both with stands.
