  1. Never ask why they said no either. Two biggest reasons I have gotten told no this season are "we only let family hunt our land" and "it's a liability so we don't allow hunting on our land". So far, all were polite and I thanked them just as politely and went on my way. I have a few more places to ask, then I have to get shooting the bow more and get some scouting public land in. Time is flying and the season is close.
  2. Decided to go north of the border with some Molson Ice tonight. Yes, I brought a backup. You would too if you spent an hour on Wallyworld and not in the sporting goods area. Edit, forgot to add the pic.
  3. That's just wrong in so many ways TF. LOL
  4. After an hour in Wallyworld getting all the things for Saturday, just hot dogs and chips. Not worthy of a pic. LOL
  5. It's not hooking up if you use your hand Biz. LOL
  6. I honestly think I will try what I though about last season. Making apple scented soap. Like I said, there are no laws stating I have to use a specific soap or what said soap can smell like. Will even wash my hunting clothes in it before adding the Sawyers. Just hope a bear doesn't think I am giant apple.
  7. I have sat and stood on limbs, but I don't think even before my fear of heights I would have used that. LOL My first stand was a lock on as well ( not brand ). Had a t-bolt you screwed into the tree, then slid the stand on the t-bolt and secured it to the tree with one strap. If I recall, the safety belt was just that a belt. I used it on public land a few times, that wasn't fun. Couldn't use the t-bolt or screw in steps. I made climbing steps by cutting a 2x4 into 5" sections, drilling holes through the sections and pushing a rope though it. Tied them to the tree on the way up, and then used a roof strap along with the main strap to help hold the stand to the tree instead of the t-bolt. The stand would slide around on the tree in a good wind. Maybe that's a contributing factor to why I am afraid of heights now.
  8. How many people against these AR style sporting rifles have even been around them? Shot one? Cleaned one ( easiest rifle I have had ever cleaned )? I am betting about 80% of the people wanting to ban are just going by a few bad seeds, and the mass propaganda that the mass media and politicians have spewed forth. Little followers following the pied piper. As for NYC not dictating or making amendments to laws? You better check your facts because the Commissioner of the NYSP residing in NYC made the latest amendment to the safe Act. No voting, he just did it. I asked this before, when did we give permission to any LEO to start making laws? I didn't get that memo! It's not that hard people. Stop screwing with law abiding citizens! Stop saying people who own rifles you don't like are no better the the criminals that use them as well. That's like saying those who own a handgun are more likely to commit a crime then someone who only has a pump shotgun. I cannot argue with people who use media what some politician/s say as proof to get on a soap box. I will say there a whole lot of us who love to kick that soap box so far from underneath you, you hit your head and get some common sense.
  9. Actually, I just got off the phone with them. Tonights meeting is for current members only. New members without two sponsors have to go in front of the board of directors, those meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month. Already have the applications, just have to wait until 9/14 to submit to the board. Don't see a problem being approved.
  10. I did too when we had natural gas. Now we have to be a little more conscious so we don't run out of propane. I have seen them at Sears for about the same price. I was shocked they are cheaper then most charcoal grills.
  11. A few tips that often get over looked: Proficiency with your bow. Practice as much as possible. If you hunt mainly from a tree stand then practice with the stand or get on something elevated. It teaches the proper form for shooting from a stand which is bend at the hip, not the shoulders. Practice in a sitting position as well. If on the ground in a blind practice shooting from w/e you plan to sit on. If no blind or seat practice from a kneeling position. If new, practice tracking a blood trail. You can make fake blood with corn syrup and red food coloring. Have someone leave a trail behind them and go locate the person. Have them leave gobs and just a few drops for different sceneries. Tracking blood isn't as easy as it seems. When the weather permits, practice with your hunting clothes on. It does make a small difference from shorts and a tee shirt to 4 layers of cold weather clothes and gloves on.
  12. The Safe Act is 10. It was updated about a year ago. Way to go on proving you aren't familiar with the laws there slick. LOL There are tens of thousands of people who own an AR or similar style rifle that aren't criminals. By some of the replies in here just by owning one people are going to go crazy and kill people. That's crap and anyone with even a pea size brain knows it. If a nut job decided to kill, they will do it anything they have, knife, hammer, screwdriver, car, poison, gun ( of any kind ), or what ever. That guy who cut that womans head off didn't use a gun now did he? Banning the AR is a stupid knee jerk reaction by people who think it will stop terrorism or mass shootings. It will not. It's just that simple. Why is that so hard for people to see? FYI, I am against any gun being banned hat isn't full auto and would feel just as strongly on the topic.
  13. I have for breakfast while camping, wrap in foil and put on coals. At home I usually just slice them put in foil or a tin pan with a little butter and fresh garlic.
  14. Happy birthday Law. Have a whiskey ( or three ) a good cigar and enjoy the day.
  15. Already had plans on going. Thanks for the heads up though GreenHunter.
  16. Nice of you to do this phade. Good deeds are always great in our circle.
  17. Still hunting is a refined skill. At least IMO. It's all about moving through the woods like a ghost. Stealth is the biggest key. Wind is your number one enemy in still hunting. Try to keep the wind in your face most of the time. Move from one area of concealment to another, and go slow. Think of a snail in molasses, and then divide that speed by 5. As for shooting from the hip. Hoping that was a joke there John Wayne. LOL
  18. There's a time limit for editing your posts. Most forums have this implemented. It keeps people from editing old content. I do agree with being able to remove our own picture attachments.
  19. Lotta rifle options for the .308. Remmy 700, Ruger American, Savage Axis, Weatherby, Browning etc.... Depends on your wallet. .308 is a good choice as ammo is available just about anyplace and the recoil isn't bad. If you will be mainly still hunting just try and go light with your choice.
  20. Happy Birthday to turkeyfeathers and Zems daughters. Ribs tonight.
  21. What about that nut case who converted to Islam, got fired from his job and hacked off an innocent womans head, and then assaulted another woman? I guess killing this scum bag was "going to far"? Shameless plug for Papist, because if this doesn't open your eyes, nothing will! http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/34179-oklahoma-muslim-who-beheaded-coworker-“justified-his-actions-based-on-quran”/#comment-489170
  22. PB&J would have sufficed. Want to make it better? Try it on toast! LOL OK, for your culinary delight, I have a 5 star meal here. Chicken nuggets and curly fries!
