  1. The one at SG has no floor or frame, so add at least $350 for those, unless you make the frame and/or use a high grade tarp for the floor. Not sure where this is but here's a 10x14 for $350 with frame: http://www.deluxewalltents.com/used-tents/ Here's one on Ebay for $450 no frame ( better off with SG ): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Canvas-Wall-Tent-/231687036231?hash=item35f19f9d47 Might be hard to find one with frame used for that price. Good luck and I hope you find one.
  2. Are you talking a basic wall tent you can get at Walmart? Or are you looking for a good heavy duty canvas wall tent that you can put a wood stove in? If looking for canvas just remember, many times the pole system is sold as a separate item, and sometimes even the floor isn't included. You might get a used one for $500 with the poles. You can make a frame on your own, many just use thin trees, and make braces to help hold the weight. If going that route and you plan to use it a lot I would strip the bark and seal the wood to make the frame last longer. As grampy said, try your local Craigslist, but keep in mind, those things are heavy! So shipping will be expensive. Maybe Ebay and look for free shipping if you can find one that will do that.
  3. The original goal and what is being done are't actually off the page from each other. A few paragraphs need to be adjusted and see what happens. The fine tune the sentences and punctuation. At this point, as a land owner you are not required to be a part, it's an option. The original post was like trying to read the words on a shirt while it's spinning it's the washer. You get sort of dizzy and feel sick. Deer hunters only in the woods 3 times ( sure, maybe those 'kill groups' ), trappers and small game hunters in the woods on Thanksgiving ( WTH does this have to do QDM. ), never kill any deer............. Seems like he was just venting, fine by me. But some coherency would have been great. Or explanations of what he was trying to get across. Doesn't sound like QDM is hurting him too much.
  4. Yeah, that would make me shake my head even more. For two reasons. 1) If you are a board member of of an association held in that regard, I would hope you would have a little tact in how you approach issues in the public. 2) PROBOARDS? Yes I say that again because if you hold such a high position, one would think you care enough about it pay for a site. You can get good hosting for about $50 a year these says. If I wanted to be taken seriously, held a position like that, I would drop the lousy $50 a year. Now, I am laughing and shaking my head. I am not trying to insult or degrade the OP. But, if he rally holds a position like that and he blasts this out here and not in his free forum, I think he needs a head check worse then you all think I do. LMAO!
  5. I was shocked this an actual forum.I was more shocked that this person is a Mod there. Proboards? I didn't even think they still existed. So, pretty much what I have in my head. Never heard that term used before. I also get visions of movies where a bad guy hires a bunch of people to get rid of his competition. I have heard of hunters like that though, and I cannot repeat the "phrases/terms" used for those people, to many F-bombs. I also don't see farmers not willing to renew a lease unless the lessee may have violated the lease. Like a few mentioned, most farmers aren't giving up more or less 'free money'. Which is kind of what it is, they already have the land, and if it's wooded and they are not farming it, getting cold hard cash in hand to let a hunter hunt that area helps pay the taxes. It's not like the lease would have a line reading: "You must kill at least 4 deer per year." as a binder. No guarantee you will get one, much less 4. We all have opinions about QDM. Some agree some don't. I really don't see it "ruining" deer hunting in NY though. If anything, the human population growing is putting more hunters in the woods, more competition to be out bid on a lease, and more pressure on public land. EDIT: I also want to add, that just because private land isn't posted, you still have no right on there without permission.
  6. I have to agree with First-light here. But, what does this mean; What exactly is a "kill group"? I read this twice, and the vision I get in my head is a bunch of people who have no clue about what hunting really is or what it means, blasting rounds with an AR just to 'kill' deer. So this part makes no sense;
  7. There are also a ton of threads saying a lever 30/30 or .44 ( and many other calibers ) are good 'brush' guns.
  8. We did tomatoes for sauce all weekend. We had to buy them and seeing everyone we asked said we would get about 10 quarts from a bushel, that's what we bought. We ended up with 24 quarts. First time making sauce. We tested a jar last night and it was great. I can no longer call my g/f a 'city girl'. Making pasta sauce was more time consuming then we though, but we got it done and also did another 8 quarts of hot peppers ( hot cherry and jalapeño ), and two jars of super hot garlic/jalapeño/dill pickles. Count now is: About 30 jars of pickles ( ranging from basic dill, garlic dill, hot garlic dill, super hot garlic/jalapeño/dill and bread and butter ) About 30 jars of hot peppers 23 jars of pasta sauce 4 jars of salsa ( mild, hot, and really hot ) 4 pint jars of relish ( 1 sweet, one dill, one sweet garlic, and one hot ) 1 quart of pickled polish sausage ( hot ). This weekend will be camping no matter what the weather does, so we will be picking up the items to make corn relish ( sweet and hot ), black bean and corn salsa ( both sweet and hot ), and a head of cabbage to try some kraut.
  9. Seeing it's Sunday now.... We were supposed to be camping with friends, but the weather made us push that back to next weekend. So Saturday we headed out to the Schoharie valley to check out the town wide garage sales and head to the local produce stands to grab a bushel of canning tomatoes and another peck of hot peppers. Grabbed some lunch then came back home and started making homemade pasta sauce. Have about half the bushel done, and it's tasting gooooood! Garlic/basil/onion. It's been simmering for 8 hours and cooling now. Today, Sunday. Break down the final half bushel of tomatoes early so they have time to cool. Wash the hot peppers and prep for canning. Then canning the rest of the day. Over all we should get about 8 jars of peppers and 10 jars of homemade pasta sauce. Second batch of the sauce will be just garlic/oregano.

I love law. H'es great! He and a few other remind me of one time I had to get a shot. I started cracking up and the nurse said "Why are you laughing?". I replied, "Because at some point in life, I will meet people who are a bigger pain in the ass then you are!".

I was off, my apologies. It was more like 70,000 does killed.

This is pretty cool. Question though, if 432,162 permits were issued, and only 16.2% had success, my math might be off, but that means appx 6.25 actual individuals were successful out of 432,162. Doesn't that seem off to anyone? Actually my math may be off, let me go get the calculator.
  14. I only have 43 days to gun season, NZ. Rifle is ready and hungry.
  15. What is the actual point of this thread? Who is a rat and who keeps the trap shut? Double edge knife on this one. There is no right or wrong answer. You all just got trolled, by staff. How did the bait taste?
  16. I was going to vote again. Then the real g/f asked me to submit her pic just to see what happens. So I did. http://acm-spypoint-hd7.pgtb.me/vXjpZg/jjT1m?w=38339564&e=100485256 Photo is called Buckaroo B.
  17. It took a few days, and I apologize for my misconception. I was under the thought that leaving anything on state land was prohibited. So I am having crow for breakfast. Here's a quoted reply from DEC on the topic:
  18. I was just expressing that I love hunting, but I also love other winter sports. Water may be softer, but it can still hurt. Not like falling on hard pack when the temps are 18 degrees though. Now that hurts like heck. LOL Time will tell what I have left in me riding down a mountain sideways. Even the years I wasn't hunting I thought about it, a lot. Every day it seems. Still do. But like I said, I also enjoy other things. Sitting around a campfire talking about w/e and drinking a cold beer is fun. Sitting in the yard with the g/f talking about the house we want to buy is great ( although I do often state I want enough land to hunt on ). I would be a die hard hunter if I had my own land and my health allowed to be out everyday. Maybe I am a die hard hunter with no way to express it physically.
  19. I went with 'Passionate But It Doesn't Consume Me'. But the peanut gallery in the other room says that once the snowboarding season was over all I talk about is hunting, and that it's been worse since buying the new guns. She's tired of hearing about hunting, and when we take the dog out to the woods she is tires of me vanishing while I go check out a funnel or w/e. I have two modes, snowboarding and the last year took up hunting again. I just love being outdoors. Not sure how many years I have left on the board, but I know I still have many in the field.
  20. Just voted. Good luck to her. If I remember I will vote again tomorrow.
  21. It will be interesting to see what happens with this one. From the way this reads that "No Child Left Behind" might go out the window.
  22. That's the post title. That's the actual topic. Not everyone gets to have the luxury of private land on day one. Or even for many years after they start hunting. Hunting private land is a bit easier then public land. Private land you can do as you wish if you own the land, or if a lease you may still have the right to cut shooting lanes etc. Even private land you just have permission to hunt may allow you to do what you like. State land or public land, the rules change. You have to follow state regulated laws. You can't cut shooting lanes, pressure is much higher, and like I said, it's first come first serve. So you really have to get in there and see what's going on. Here's an example ( for anyone familiar with upstate hunting, or you can look the place up on Google, it's small ): Lost Valley State Forest has some good deer. It's not very big, but gets a lot of hunting pressure ( last I knew anyway ). So a new hunter who has no one to teach them will use the first part of this thread to get going. Then, they will learn, grow as hunters, and hopefully get a good deer, buck or doe.
  23. No description, just pics in the first post. So I took from that vagueness, you came upon this find for the first time with snow on the ground. All apologies on my part.
  24. I am all for this one. I would be all for a 3 part split. WNY, NY, SNY. Maybe a tax hike, but I am sure it would level out at some point. From a hunting aspect, I am all for it. New York and Southern New York. I say Southern because those counties are South, not East in true retrospect. But, on the hunting side, won't that mean that all the Southern NY's will have to pay 'out of state' license fees to hunt NY unless you own land and actually have a legal residence in NY and pay taxes, get mail, and pay bills? Would a lease on land count as resident? It would have to right? Leasing is like renting but with a contract.
