Thanks again my friend! Not too much can go wrong with a longbow. Just an off morning for ya perhaps?
-
Not sure of the insert weight. But I did shoot some Bemen weight forward arrows with the same results. Thanks for the suggestion though. Like moog said, it's likely something simple. Just have to find what it is? I will work on it over the weekend. I do love this bow. And do have time to get it right and rebuild my confidence. I still plan to get some blood on it this season! Just hope it's not mine!!..lol

Da Bears still got beat. Even without a Double Doink!

Exactly!!! Biz was the best with the countdown!!! Guess he'll only count down when the Sox are winning?
-
Just saying..... You were so spot on with the countdown last year! You are much better at it than I am. Was hoping you'd keep it going this year too? And yeah....I am bustin your chops just a little. That's what Yanks and Sox fans do! All in good fun though. Going to be interesting once the playoffs start. Yanks have as much chance as anyone, of going all the way this year. Long overdue. We'll see?

Magic number for the Yankees....is 13 !! Biz doesn't seem to be keeping the count this year???

I will try this Brian. Looks like there is room to lower it without hitting the riser. About an eighth of an inch or so ya think? Thanks fellas for the help!

Great fishing, and awesome family memories. That's a great summer! Welcome back!

Two weeks ago, had the bow gone over axle to axle, for almost three hours, by the owner at an Obsession dealer bow shop. He checked everything. Then we paper tuned at the end, and it was perfect! Between then and when I put the broadhead and lighted nock on, it was shooting darts, out to 40 yards. With nice groups. Even got a robinhood! Shot a nice tight group with FP's at 20, then shot the BH. It was about 8" high and 5" right. WTH???... My old bow was always dead on making the switch to BHs. So I shot another one and another and another, all hitting the same spot. OK... So just adjusted sight. And got it better but not great. As one shot would be on and the next would be way off! Not consistent at all. Tried four different makes of fixed 100g broadheads, and three different kinds of arrows, two different spine stiffness. Seemed to be better near the end of the day, after chasing the arrows with sight adjustments. Then yesterday, first shot way off!!! Couldn't hit two arrows within four inches of each other! Up, down, and both sides, just all over the place! Now my sight is maxed out high, and can't get the 40 yard pin closer than 10" high. I concentrate on holding my form. Been bow hunting well over 40 years, so I got the basics down. But it's been a long time since I've lost my confidence like I have now in this set up. I've tried everything I can think of. Never had this problem before with any other bow. Maybe I should just take all the fancy stuff off, put on a whisker biscuit and a single pin sight, and go back to basics? Oh....shot the same arrows I'm have the problem with from my 20 year old bow. Dead nuts on........ Sorry for the long post that is off topic. Will try this the next time I shoot this weekend! Thank you.

After getting dialed in pretty good Sunday with broadhead, I was all over the place last night!! So aggravating to say the least!!! I did tighten things up a little better after quite a few shots. out to 30 yards. But sight is maxed out all the way up, and 40 yards is hitting real high......argg!! Perhaps a new sight will be better for this bow. May put an HHA on it?? Still not confident in this bow since I put on the broadheads. Was a dream with field points. I may be going back to my old bow to hunt this year. Never had to change a thing with that old Mathews from FP's to BH's. Getting close now, might just break out old reliable to get my confidence back.

I've used a turkey vest in the past. But I find a fanny pack with military surplus LBE straps works better for me. Keeps everything at waist level and out of the way, if I need to draw the bow. And just one clip to take off and hang up within reach while I sit.

Hope I never get on YOUR bad side!!! Ol' Mr. skunk better relocate fast, because that relentless sodbuster RHF, is planning an early demise for you. And it won't be pretty. But could be pretty stinky! We will see who has the last laugh in this epic saga! Stay tuned folks!!!

Happy Birthday Eddie!!! 78 years YOUNG!!!! Way to go my friend. Enjoy all the good stuff coming your way today sir!

Listen to her and go get checked out.

With the Carbon Express Piledrivers and a 100 grain head, it will be around 400 total grains. That shoots very well from both my crossbows. The doe I shot with this set up, died within seconds of being shot. And the bolt was buried halfway in the ground, after passing through.

Enjoy every minute. Before ya know it, HIS son will be a senior in HS. That's where I'm at this year.

Holy smokes....so glad you are ok. You really were lucky man! You might feel sore tonight though! I try to never put up. check, or take down a ladder stand, without at least a ratchet strap around the middle. Or to have a safety line installed. But I too have been careless over the years and took chances, I shouldn't have. I hate to think how badly this could have been for you. Let this be a lesson for us all.

Happy Birthday Tacks!!! Nothing but the best for you today my friend!!! Enjoy your special day sir!

Be absolutely 100% familiar, and proficient with whatever you are hunting with. And know your limit!!! Too many take only a few shots in the backyard at 20 yards, and say good enough. It's not. Way too many variables out in the deer woods as far as shot distance and angles. And shooting way beyond your limit is just a recipe for disappointment, and not fair to the game we hunt. Know your Bow!!!! And most importantly know when NOT to let an arrow fly.

On what percentage of your hit deer do you achieve complete pass through?
grampy replied to Core's topic in Bow Hunting
I keep all my shots 30 yards or less. Unless I hit the off side leg or part of the scapula, I'll get a pass through. 50lb compound. -
I have an extra single stage press and some assorted stuff I upgraded, including a die set for 270.

I see a recurve bow kill for you this season Bob! Nice shooting!

I agree with ya about the, it not being a "money" thing. I could go out and purchase a better quality crossbow and would, if full inclusion were passed. But why??? I have had a crossbow since the first year they became legal, and have only hunted with one a handful of times. I have a Barnett Raptor. It is just ok. I would never buy another Barnett. But it is light, shoots accurate enough, and so far, except for the dang cheap plastic retaining spring, it has been fine. I did upgrade the scope and bolts that came with it. My grandson uses this one now. For about the same money, you can get the Sniper 370. It is much better built, quieter, and more accurate. But is heavier by a couple pounds. And yes the trigger is terrible! But unlike a rifle, I'm not shooting 100 plus yards either. I have no problem at all hitting small targets out to 60 yards with the 370. My self imposed range limit when hunting is only 30 yards. I bought mine just about brand new from 'Savagehunter' . And the Nikon Bolt scope that I put on it from 'Jdubs' . (both great guys) So I have little invested in this crossbow. But it shoots and performs just as well as my buddies $1200 Ten Point! Of course the fit and trim on the Ten Point is vastly superior. But that 370 shoots just as well within the range I shoot! The reviews on the Sniper 370 are SUPER good! And for good reason. They are hands down the best inexpensive crossbow you can buy, IMO. Better than some others costing much more too. Like I said, when and if full inclusion is passed, and or my shoulders don't allow me to draw my compound any longer. And I will actually hunt more with a crossbow. Then I will upgrade to a better, more expensive crossbow. Until then, the cheap Barnett, and the Sniper 370 will do just fine.

No.... But it is next on my 'must have' list for sure!! My buddy has one though, and when I was testing this load, it was right about 3000fps. Nice to hear from ya sir! Yes, I got the bug bad!!!..... The money spent in reloading gear, could have bought enough store ammo to last me the rest of my life. But...........the satisfaction of taking a deer with ammo I made up and tested myself, and the peace and tranquility I get while at the bench is.....priceless. And well worth the expense to me. Of all the reloading stuff I bought, the four Reloading Manuals were the most valuable in getting started. Also had plenty of help and advice from some members right here, that helped sooo much! Again a tip o' the hat and a hearty THANK YOU ! You guys know who you are.
