  1. Congratulations on a great buck! And can't thank you enough for sharing the story with us. It brought a smile to my face. And I have no doubt it brought one to Greg Fives, too.
  2. Decent buck! I'd be happy to shoot him, and do a post mortum? But only if I couldn't hunt from your deck!...
  3. Another great day! Morning sit, I passed on yet another small buck. Then saw a huge buck cruising at just over 100 yards. Tried grunting, doe bleats, hit antler bag, all to no avail. Just kept on going. Hunted up above that morning spot until dark. Had four doe with fawns feeding close by. But no bucks came to the party! Bucks are ready, but most doe in our area are not yet. Should make for an exiting opening weekend of gun! That's a wrap on my bow season. I held out, all or nothing, for a good buck. Got close, but never got the shots I needed to get it done. Didn't release an arrow or bolt. No regrets at all! I had a blast!
  4. This is probably my last hunt of the archery season. Back to the blind that I've had the most sightings of the big 9, (3) that I've been playing with these last few weeks. It's been an honor to hunt him, and to have a buck like that on our property. Been a real fun season so far! Been close, but not close enough, on a couple of real nice bucks. Passed on a bunch of younger ones. Lets see what today brings!
  5. Been up for an hour having coffee and sausage egg and cheese biscuit. Meeting up with a member here in an hour. Hopefully we get some rut action! This is a proven nice buck spot. Should be a fun hunt, no matter what! Always cool to hunt with a different hunter. Brings a new exitement to an old hunting ground for me.
  6. Congratulations to all the successful hunters today! You guys rock! Another day of close, but not close enough. Good rut activity seen today! Going to switch properties in the morning. Will team up with Jdubs. I haven't hunted this property since first week of October. So anything is possible on this hunt, with a bit of luck.
  7. Congratulations! What an awesome buck! The memories of that day will be cherished for the rest of your days. To share it with your dad is something very special, that no amount of money could ever buy. Thanks for sharing your story with us. Great job man.
  8. Oh noooo...... I'm calling dibs on your deck blind!!!..................hehehe
  9. You close to home? Some cruising and chasing going on, not far from you. So hang in there my friend!
  10. My hunting partner grunted in a spike this morning from over 100 yards to 10 yards. Said he kept looking all around trying to find the other "buck" he heard. Said it was very entertaining!
  11. I hunt mostly from natural ground blinds. Last year, opening week of gun season, I wasn't feeling too good, and was hunting from one of my best blinds. Was in there for a few hours and had not seen a thing! Decided to pack it up and go get warm. So I did something I "NEVER" do! Stand up, before doing a 360 degrees look around. Yup.....coming in from my back left, was the number one buck on the property! I got just enough of a look at him, as he was bounding away into the swamp to sink my spirits, and to kick myself for the rookie mistake. Had a very nice 8 pt last Monday at 30 yards, to my right, standing in some very thick brush. He caught me moving into position for a shot, when he stepped out. A five minute stare down resulted in him going back the way he came. I should have waited, he probably would have walked to my front. I got too anxious. This is my 45th deer season. I still make mistakes that cost me deer. And over all the years, many deer lived another day due to my blunders! It's all part of what makes hunting so fun, and at times, frustrating!!!
  12. Good question Larry. I started hunting from some hub blinds this year and was wondering the same thing. My hearing is already not too good. If it gets any worse, it will REALLY annoy the Mrs!!!.....lol
  13. You need to buck up and do everything you possibly can to find that deer! That is the ethical thing to do as the hunter, that pulled the trigger on this animal. You have someone with the experience, kindly willing to help you. Take advantage of every opportunity.
  14. This is what being a true sportsman is all about. My hat is off to you sir.
  15. Deer Search will not go on any property that permission has not been granted. I will not pile on here. But there is so many things about this, that really should be reflected upon, and learned from.
