  1. Here's my two pennies worth........ If I had concrete PROOF of illegal activity, my actions may be different, than if I were going on second hand information. I too was brought up to respect the law. I was also taught the value of innocent until proven guilty. Along with do unto others, as you would have them do unto you. What if the neighbor heard from "someone", that the OP was doing something illegal? Like selling drugs for instance, when he is not. How would he feel to have the authorities called to investigate? Would he still have a decent relationship with that neighbor, after a false accusation? I think not. Too easy these days to assume something. And yes, in these days of "see something say something". I can understand being proactive. But a corn pile is much different than a terrorist threat. Pick your battles wisely. JMO
  2. Dang.........if this was all I had to worry about, I'd be doing pretty dang good! ......grin. Having lived south of the Mason Dixon line for a few years when I was younger, I've carried a few things back with me. Some southern slang among them. As for me, I identify much more with backwoods southerners, more so than with big city people. Not slamming big city people, there are some good ones on this forum.
  3. Got soaked through. Pulled out around noon. Home now, drying out and warming up. Great morning! With two shooter bucks seen, and four young ones! With a little luck and dry weather, I might even fill a tag? This rainy season, is not making it easy to be out there. But obviously the deer are there. But once the rain became steady today, the chance of a washed out blood trail, along with being uncomfortable myself. Just made calling it a day, the best decision for me.
  4. Good morning so far. Seen two mature shooter bucks, this morning. Coaxed one in to 40 yards with a grunt call. But that was as far as he'd go. Never had a clear shot. The little guys are keeping things interesting though. Gusty winds and rain showers so far this morning. Will hang in as long as it takes. Beats the view at my office!
  5. Saw him tonight at our house for dinner. He's getting around a little better than he did a couple days ago. X-Rays all negative so thats great! But still swollen pretty good. Got rolled on while making a sack near the end of the game. He said he would of gone hunting today! But kinda glad his mom held him back. Hope so John. Trail cam pic's, and my three sightings, have him in a certain area, but never the same place. None of the bucks seen today were chasing. All were cruising though. Once the frenzy of chasing and breeding start, he can, and will be anywhere. With a bunch of luck, perhaps our paths will get closer together tomorrow. I'm moving to a surprise spot in the morning. Maybe too close? We'll see. Living on the edge. I love this kind of hunting though.
  6. Was solo today. Grandson is nursing a badly sprained ankle, suffered in his last football game. His mom put hunting with grampy out of the question until the swelling goes down. Hopefully next weekend. This morning saw four bucks. A real nice 8. A little 4 and a spike did a little pushing each other around. And again, saw my target buck, from a different stand. The two big bucks, were just too far out, for a comfortable shot ftom me. Back out again in the morning. Got a surprise for that big nine! This afternoon I saw nothing. My hunting partner was on the opposite side of the swsmp/bedding area, and saw a couple decent bucks. No shots for him either.
  7. Shoot what you like, like what you shoot! The only one that needs to be pleased is yourself! And you seem very pleased! Congratulations!
  8. This us so true. My wife told me good luck, and that I'm crazy, as I kissed her goodbye. Guess this is just another part of the dues we pay as hunters?
  9. Coffee, sausage egg and cheese, sit down time, gear ready, all check!!! Great day to go out and kill a deer! Good luck out there everyone!
  10. Put in a couple scent free dryer sheets for 15 minutes. Then dry your hunting stuff. I don't get too carried away with all this scent stuff. No matter what we do, deer will still smell us. I just pay closer attention to the wind. But I do what I can to somewhat reduce my scent. Figure every little bit helps?
  11. 60 degrees, sunny, light winds from the SE. Hey, if I'm not going to see any deer. May as well be nice and cozy!
  12. Wasn't able to get around much last gun season. So used my chair blind quite a bit. Very comfortable and mobile. Easy to carry in and set up too. Will use it again this year for a spot or two that I've picked out. Just to change things up, when the situation is right.
  13. Looks like a perfect place to just chill out, have a drink, a smoke, and contemplate the next day. Cheers John!
  14. I've seen the inside of your gun safe. You have very good taste in rifles my friend.
  15. I love a classic wood stocked rifle, chambered in a classic caliber. I got my "heirloom" rifle Iast year, thanks to moog! Hope to lay it across a deer this year. Every time that rifle is in my hands, I just can't hide my smile. My grandson will be shooting deer with it, long after my last hunt.
  16. Let him go one more year Jay. He'll be a more than a putter then!
  17. My range stays the same, be it vertical or crossbow. 30 yards. Have shot and practiced both out to 60 yards. Makes the 30 yarders much easier. I want to be 'sure' of a quick clean kill. If anyone is into shooting for distance, firearms season opens in the SZ on the 17th. Save the longer shots for then.
  18. No Dicks for me!!! I will not contribute one cent, to a business lobbying to take away any constitutional right, from anyone! The only way to make a statement, with anything you disagree with in government, happens this Tuesday. Get Out And Vote!
  19. Intsa...what? Have no clue about any of that stuff. And my "smartphone" is much smarter than me.
  20. Spot on. Good luck with that big un!
  21. I hunted Mendon last year with moog and phade. I was so impressed, with the bucks and buck sign there!!! Best of luck to ya Eddie!
  22. You have a temper???? Don't think I've ever even seen ya frown! I'd want to be far away if ya ever lost it though! hehehe.
  23. Second guessing ones self, is a standard part of hunting! I'd never second guess two McMuffins though! My opinion, leave the stand where it is. You moved it there for good reason. Have faith! It will pay off!

    Newbie

Welcome!! To the forum. And back to hunting! Keep us updated on how your season goes! Good luck to ya.
  25. This is really getting crazy. A couple food plots are now under water. A small feeder stream that we use to skirt a swamp, is now very wide and waist deep. Have two prime rut stands, that border a swamp that are surrounded by water, no way to get near them. Tractor and ATV roads are all a quagmire and mostly impassable, without creating deep ruts. Even hay fields have standing water in them, that look like ponds. All the ridge slopes are muddy and slick. Have never seen this place like this, at this time of year. Almost like a rainey warm up, in early spring, with a deep snowpack. All this, WILL effect the deer movement on our property to some extent. They can't bed in the swamps because there are very few, if any, high spots left to bed on. So they are pushed out to the next available thick stuff, to bed in no doubt. But we are not set up for that. Now it's up to us, to figure out all the changes in deer movement. Just an added challenge, to an already challenging season so far. Success will be all the more sweet when it happens this year! We are up to the challenge.
