  1. Understand, that it's the DI's job to break down any sense if individuality. This is necessary, so that the unit as a whole, functions together as one. Besides the physical shock in the beginning, this breaking you down to rebuild you, will be the toughest adjustment to military life. I was Army, not Marines. But they both use similar techniques to accomplish the same thing with new recruits. Once you become a warrior, the warrior spirit will live within you for the rest of your days. Fellow warriors will share a common bond. When you next see him, he'll be different, yet the same. Good luck and God speed to him.
  2. Must be that animal attraction Biz.
  3. No crossbows until November 3rd in southern zone. Think I'll take mine out for the first time in a few years! My heart says no...... But my shoulders say YEAH !........ Not only that, it's fun too! And something different.
  4. 4-H......hilltowns. Buck sign continues to pop up. Doe are still with their fawns. Young bucks are starting to cruise and follow the doe, but the doe want no part of them yet. Couple decent bucks on cam but no BIG ones yet, and most all buck activity is at night. Overall, still pretty slow here. Everything is still right on schedule for peak buck activity, happening around November 10th. Just like every year around here.
  5. Weekend forecast is not great. I may just wash hunting clothes and organize some gear on Saturday. High winds, pouring rain, with a chance of rain mixing with snow above 1500' here all day. Got Sunday and Monday to hunt, but 60% chance of rain both days. Will be out there every minute I can though!
  6. I'm looking forward to using a crossbow this year. First year they were legal, I shot a doe, with my Barnett Raptor. That is the only deer I've ever killed with one, and really haven't hunted with it much since. Preferring to hunt with my compound. But this year I'm going to try to get a buck with it! Should be fun! Picked up some Muzzy Trocar Hex heads, for the Centerpoint Sniper this week. Switching from the NAP Slingblades. My buddy bought the Muzzys, and after checking them out, I really liked them! Four blades are better than two I think. And they fly very nice and accurate.
  7. 95% of the time I'm on the ground, no matter what hunting tool is in my hands. I like the challenge, mobility, and comfort of being grounded. Not to mention like Jdubs said, the absolute thrill of being eye to eye with the deer I'm hunting. That is the pros. The cons. You REALLY have to keep track of the wind. And keep movement's slow, when deer are in close. And NEVER make eye contact with deer.
  8. 35 mm film canister for me too. Been using the same one for decades. But I may take moogs great suggestion, and get my grandson his first man purse!
  9. Cocky Cuomo is loving this! Divide and conquer, against the non supporters. I truly respect each and every voters right, to vote for whoever they feel deserves their vote. And I'm giving a huge thumbs up, to anyone who actually gets off their azz to vote! Too many complainers out there who don't vote! But to make the change to send Andy packing, it is a numbers game, not a popularity contest. Simple as that. Only by all of us voting together, will the numbers be enough to get rid of this dictator! By all means, vote for who you want. Just don't shake your head, when Goofball Cuomo, rides ripshod over your rights. And taxes you into the poor house. We all had the chance to possibly do something about it.
  10. Awesome work my friend! I've missed these posts! Glad that you're keeping busy. Easy to see why they sell so quickly. The big bear and the sleepy hound dog are really cool! At some point, may have to take a trip to ya for one of those "welcome" bears! Best of luck to ya when you do get out to hunt. And keep the carving pic's coming!
  11. Even hurt, they would not hesitate to run a blood trail if you'd let them! Of course you wouldn't let that happen. But just shows the drive and spirit, in these wonderful and amazing dogs. They will bounce back. Get well soon Luna and Kunox!
  12. My first shotgun was an Ithaca Model 37 in 16g. Purchased in 1970 with money made working after school and weekends. Killed just about anything running, or flying on the farm with it. And a pile of deer too, with the old remington foster slugs. Still try to get the old girl out for rabbits or tree rats once a year. If guns could talk, that one would have a lot of stories to tell.
  13. Changing every day. Looks like Saturday will be a wash out right now. Got Sunday and Monday off. Hopefully the weather will be better, but forecasting showers for those days too. Deer should move, but conditions for hunting them won't be the best.
  14. Is there any doubt at all, that Cuomo will enhance the Safe Act with more legislation? Putting even more, and tougher demands on law abiding gun owners. If not outright try to take the guns from our hands? That will be a huge feather in his cap, for when he runs for president. No secret that, that is his #1 ambition! And don't believe for a second that he won't be trying to do just that. Look how the Safe Act was pushed down our throats, from behind closed doors, in the middle of the night!!! Look, to be honest, there are NO career politicians, from ANY party, out there that I would shake hands with, or tip my hat to. They all have a line of crap, and are only in it for themselves!!! Anyone who believes differently, is only fooling themselves. Yes, that is a very sad statement, that I wish were not true. That said, I cast my vote to the whoever I think has the "BEST CHANCE TO WIN" that will do the least amount of damage, to what I believe in. Since I do not believe in socialism, or taking apart the US Constitution, as Cuomo dictates, the only clear choice is Molinaro for me. The saddest part is, together we stand, divided we fall, means nothing anymore.
  15. I like Larry Sharpe too. Alot! But he will not win on a third party line. Every vote for him takes one from Molinaro, and basically gives one to Cuomo. It's all or nothing with Molinaro. Cuomo? Molinaro?..........one or the other is the only realistic winner. Who would you rather? But to make it happen, we all need to stick together! And we all need to vote!!!
  16. Yes it is sad. But for every vote not voted, that is a vote for King Andy. Molinaro is all we got. But still better than Cuomo by a lot. What does that say??? Get out and vote folks. It's the only way we have to make a change. Make your voice heard.
  17. Congratulations to your son!! Eagle Scout is an honor that does not come easily, or without a lot of work and dedication! You have every reason to be proud!!!
  18. I hunt to the last minute of legal light. At that time I'm gathering up my stuff, take a long look around, and head out. I'll usually see a deer or two, feeding on the trip out too. So I'll make a note of where I saw them, for future reference. By the time I get to my truck it's dark. Have I hunted past legal time when deer were very close? I'll be honest.......yes. Do I always take the shot during that one time or two, this might happen a season? .........no Have I ever shot, when I could not clearly identify my target?............absolutely not!!! Have I ever done it while a new or young hunter was with me?..........absolutely not. Flame me up! I'm nowhere near perfect. But I'm not laying any BS on ya either.
  19. Wow! That was close! Cool video.
  20. Please know, I didn't mean to call out you, or anyone, about hunting. Sorry if I came off like that. We all have our own way of hunting, and hunt when we can, in or own ways!! I get that 100%!! My point is. It just seems to me that more and more, in magazines, hunting forums, TV shows even talking to other hunters. I'm seeing apps and lunars tables discussed and touted. And I just ask myself, how could they possibly predict what will be happening in the 100 yard circle that I will be hunting?? The only way to predict that, is to put boots to ground and look around. .....................IMHO. That said, anything that works for anyone else.........cool by me.
