  1. Sure!................. Actually, we will be staying at the River Inn in Wells. Such a cool area, that we never tire of exploring. And the seafood is not too bad either! We seek out the lighthouses, rocky beaches, back woods towns further inland, and of course Kittery Trading Post!
  2. Yeah, but I gotta say, those two hours were pretty exciting! Just another step or two, and I would have gotten a shot at what would have been one of my biggest bow bucks! Not to mention your world class hospitality, family, and meeting some really good guys! It was beyond a doubt, the best time I had hunting last season! The Mrs. and I are going back to Ogunquit Maine in May. And of course our usual trips to Vermont throughout the summer months. And as many fishing trips on the boat with my grandsons, that I can do!
  3. Perhaps a trip out to WNY, the last week in October, to hunt with moog5050. Had a blast last year!!!
  4. Besides my right shoulder being in pain drawing the bow. My left shoulder will not hold the bow in the position needed, to keep the form needed to shoot. Shooting a gun or crossbow, I can keep my left elbow, close to my body with no pain at all.
  5. On our own property, there is no doubt that no one would know, if I snuck my crossbow in the woods early. The real problem is that I would know. And if I were lucky enough to shoot a really nice buck, it would "lose" something for me. And what kind of example would I be setting for the young hunter with me? But to be completely honest, I have thought about it.
  6. Was talking to a ECO that I know pretty well. He told me that the #1 thing he wrote tickets for this past season, was hunting with a crossbow out of season. So your observations seem spot on.
  7. You need to be almost disabled to qualify for a special permit, which thankfully I am not. Had surgery on my right shoulder last May, but it's still giving me a hard time. And the left shoulder needs surgery too, but not sure when I'll submit to the knife again. Just came up from shooting four arrows downstairs. That's all I could do. In the very near future my bow hunting days will be done. Nothing will ever take the place, of the love I have for my bow. But at least with a crossbow, I can still participate.
  8. Seems as if by now, we would have heard something from Ric, from the Crossbow Coalition, on a Bill to be voted on this year. Looks like at least another year will slip by without full inclusion. Pretty sad really. PLEASE, this is not meant to start another crossbow debate! We already have hundreds of pages on that. It's just the musings, of a soon to be 61 year old bowhunter, who is having issues shooting his bow, and still wants to hunt the month of October.
  9. Even your "crappy" pic's are stunning! Very few are blessed with your talents my friend! Keep on track, with the healing up process. And you will be out roaming the hills very soon! We will be the benefactors from that, as much as you will!
  10. Senko's, bass jigs, power worms, crankbaits for river smallies? I'm a green and bronze fish kinda guy. Spring has sprung for me, after I pull the winter cover off the boat. And the first time I get sunburned!
  11. Looks really good! When I do hunt a tree stand, it's almost always a pine or hemlock tree. With the cover, you get away with a lot more, and the stands just blend right in too. Sounds like you have a solid plan in place, to make this year, a special hunting season. I'll be following the progress through this thread. Right up to the smiling pic's, with you and your daughter's deer! You really do got something special going here! And a lot of joy will come from the anticipation and work you put into your own land.
  12. Congratulations on your slice of heaven John. It sounds like it will be everything you wanted and more! Wishing you much happiness and hunting success on your land.
  13. Yes, anytime you can go with someone with experience, it will shorten the learning curve. No doubt Treeguy will be able to fill in some blanks for ya! The first time you call in, and kill one, you'll be hooked!
  14. That black squirrel is pretty cool! They are kinda rare around here. Cool looking pellet gun too! So what is your take on your first predator hunt? Don't give up! It could be entirely different on another day! They are intelligent, and can be very challenging to hunt. That to me, is what makes it so fun. And so exciting when you do connect!
  15. Those Wirehaired Dachshunds, have gotten me in trouble a time or two as well! Enjoy the good times Tom!
  16. Loved how Marlin Perkins would narrate..........."As I sit safely in the truck, Jim stalks the lion. Watch out Jim! Those teeth and claws are sharp"!!! Hehehe........yeah Jim was pretty tough indeed!
  17. My buddy uses a 22 Hornet. That puts em down pretty good. My 7mm-08 is a bit overkill, but great for those long shots. Good luck in the morning moog! Let us know how it all works out.
  18. Wild Kingdom. Watched it every Sunday night.
  19. HaHaHa.........I saw that back there too, and thought to myself, WTH??? On that same path a few years ago, I found a folding Buck Knife. Gave it to my grandson.
  20. Hope you get some feedback Bionic. I too will follow this thread, but for just filming hunts with my grandson. I've been looking at the Go Pro's, but they are kinda expensive, and they don't seem to capture well or zoom beyond 50 yards. I admire your tenacity and can do attitude!
  21. Happy Birthday Gentlemen!!! Hope all your Birthday wishes come true! Cheers!.....
  22. Takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do!
