  1. Although I do respect LJC's opinion, even if it differs from my own. I feel the guy was just arguing for the sake of arguing. And made little sense as he was talking in circles. See ya dude..........
  2. Hope you feel better soon! This past Monday I got back to my truck after doing a little scouting, farther down from a ridge set up. I felt something on my hand, it's a tick. Then the other hand, another tick. Look at my pants and there had to be a dozen of them on me. The rest of the afternoon I had at least six more crawling on me! On the way home, yup, another one on my hand. I couldn't wait to get home, strip down, put everything in the washer and get in the shower! I've never seen them this bad in the hill towns of Albany county. So far I'm surprised to not find one embedded in me. I do think the Under Armor base layer, helps to keep most of them off my skin. But man, do I hate them things!!!
  3. Have that pic framed, and hang it under the mount when you get him!
  4. Don't do many all day sits anymore. But do hunt 5-6 hours quite often in the morning, before moving to another stand or come out for a coffee to warm up, and then back in till dark. I do bring an old flip phone with me for emergencies or help with a drag. But it rarely comes out of my pocket. I try to keep my mind busy with the hunt! Things like, is the wind shifting or swirling? If a deer should come from there I'll do this or that. Was that a leaf falling or the flick of a tail? Is that a tree rat digging for nuts behind me or is it a deer? How far is it, again to that stump? And when all else fails. Where is that plane coming from, going to, how many people on board, who are they going to see????.........lol Did the wind change or is it swirling?............
  5. Tacks, I've wish a lot of hunters good luck this year. But tomorrow I'm wishing you the very best of luck. To get one for your Dad. But weather you get a deer or not. He will be sitting there, right beside you, smiling that smile you know so well.
  6. Heal up quick, feel better soon and get back out there. Crossbow starts this Saturday! I may hunt with my crossbow. Or I may continue to hunt with my compound. Nice to have a choice!
  7. I feel your pain Papist. I've been there too. And If you hunt long enough, it happens to almost all hunters. But as long as you gave every effort to recover the deer. And I think you have. Learn what you can from it and get back to hunting! The sting from something like this will always stay with you. But all our hunting experiences combined, good and bad. Make us the hunters we are.
  8. Happy Birthday! Can't think of a better way to celebrate than with a big ol'e knarly birthday buck!!! Best of everything to you today!
  9. Although I've eaten tag soup in the past. I found it tastes much better with a slice of humble pie. I don't "have" to "kill" anything to have a great hunt/season. That being said, I am still hoping to help my grandson get his first deer. A nice young doe or shooter buck, it doesn't matter. He can shoot good groups out to 25 yards. But he is not comfortable shooting more than 15 yards at a deer. Normally that is no problem! As we do have a fair number of deer. And great set-ups. But for a variety of reasons, he has not been out hunting as much as I'd hoped. And that is fine. I'll never pressure him to go and always try to make our time together hunting, as fun as possible. Being that he is 12, his "hunting" season will end at the beginning of firearms season. So hoping this next two weeks, I can get him out there when the deer do show up!
  10. Welcome ! And best of luck to you this season !
  11. Wow! What an absolutely beautiful rifle! Very nice work. Curious if you will take out to hunt?
  12. Right ! No Deer ! Two different properties . Four of my best proven set up's. And I haven't had a shot all season! My grandson and I did see a couple shooter bucks fighting last Saturday. But way out too far. I did pass on a couple little bucks early on, but mostly I've seen no deer at all! Got plenty of bucks on cam, mostly at night. Scrapes and rubs everywhere and new ones almost daily ! So far, this has been the most frustrating season in years for me. Seems like no matter what spot I hunt, the deer are somewhere else. But that's hunting! I'm still pumped, and expect to close the deal, every time out! Next couple weeks are going to be good with quite a few days to hunt. The fat lady hasn't sung yet and it aint over till it's over! If anyone else out there, is having a frustrating season too. Stay positive ! I am! It can all change in a heartbeat.

    BEAR!!!!

Always cool to see a bear! I've seen them many, many times. Even had a couple real close encounters from a ground blind. But for one reason or another, I haven't pulled the trigger on one........Yet.

    Almost..

    Nice! First one?
  15. Try calling John Jeanneney. He may be able to hook you up with someone out that way. 518-872-1779
  16. Sorry to say I do not. No, Nicky with Xola.
  17. Killed my first few deer in blue jeans and a green wool sweater. I still have that sweater! Put lots of flannel layers under it when it got chilly! Like most of the guys, who've seen a few hunting seasons. Treebark was my first camo. I remember thinking , no way a deer can see me with this stuff on! But they did!!.....If I moved. So I learned that no matter what you wear, as long as you are still, the deer usually will not see you. My camo now, is a mismatched conglomerate of stuff bought on sale or given to me as a gift from my wife. Geared way more towards comfort than style .
  18. Over the years I've one lunged three deer. One lived and my buddy shot him the following year! The other two were recovered. Both of them within three hundred yards of the hit. And both were recovered after letting them go overnight . From your pictures and description , I really think he's dead and you will find him tomorrow . Best of luck to you.
  19. Just got in and finished dinner and see this!! Congratulations ! Wow! What a beautiful buck, and to do it with your recurve is absolutely awesome! Way to get it done my friend. I'm very happy for you!
  20. Too bad.....I predicted 99 pages. And it was well on it's way!
  21. It was running in circles so fast that ""POOF"".......... gone!
