Trouble is, they are not highlighted on live deer. But you've killed enough of em to know that! Right?

With any deer, it is always CLEAN and COOL, ASAP! Even more so with a gut shot. Take more time to make everything as clean and dry as possible. If you do wash it out, be sure to dry it out after. As moisture is the kick start to bacteria. Trim away anything questionable and enjoy the bounty of the hunt!

We have public land that borders our property. In 20 years I seen the parking area there go from cars and trucks lining both sides of the road, 40 or 50! to Maybe half a dozen on opening day! And during the week, at times, no one there at all. Partridge Run, used to be a place where there seemed to be blaze orange behind every other tree! Now, you can hunt certain parts of it and not even see another hunter!

Congratulations Dan T! Nice buck and great shot! Waiting for the story. -
We all hunt for different reasons and on different lands. All pay the same price for our tags. And I truthfully believe that "ANY DEER" is a trophy. That being said I like to shoot a nice fat doe every year for the freezer. And hold out for a decent buck. I can't really explain what a a "decent" buck is. But I'll know it when I see him!! And it may even change from year to year. No such thing as a "bad" deer! So shoot whatever you like and enjoy hunting, along with all the wonderful things that go with being in the woods. The greatest reward is just being out there.

I sat 10 hours yesterday, between two of my best set up's. And saw Zip, Nadda, Nothing! And to add an insult, there were two fresh scrapes made on the way out, that were not there on the way in! We have deer on the property, and a bunch of bucks on trail cam. So lack of deer is not the problem. But my luck so far this year has been terrible!!!! Well now I know why! I was going to pick up a bag of Fireballs last week, and didn't. This coming weekend I have three days to hunt. And I can assure you that my pockets will be lined with Fireballs! At this point, I need anything to swing some luck back into my corner! -
So happy for you Elmo! Congratulations! Given your limited hunting time, you really did an awesome job sealing the deal! And what a great shot! At a little over 40 yards, under pressure, it could not have been better! Great job buddy, way to go!!!!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. It's an old saying but still rings true. Go for it rob, and good luck!

Going to hit a spot not hunted yet this year, in the morning. It's on a bench on a steep south facing slope. Over the years, when the NW wind is howling, I've seen a ton of deer here. And have taken a couple decent bucks too. I'm right on the lip of the bench, and will have shots above and below. Of course nothing above me will catch my scent and it tends to carry over anything within range, directly below me. Thats the plan anyways. We'll see how it plays out in the morning. Good luck to all heading out. And keep safe! -

What about Eugene's chances?

I will never stop being amazed at how tough these animals really are! Any tougher and they'd be hunting us!

Sat at home this morning. Steady rain, winds gusting over 25mph, temp. 39 right now in the hilltowns of 4H. Heading down to Home Depot, to work on an inside project. Will be in my ground blind before light in the morning. May even have a coating of snow by then! I got a good feeling. We will see? Looks cozy! Got beer? -
I'll be watching! I'm thinking Glen? But I'm never right when it comes to the twists and turns of that show! That's why I love it!

I've always dreamed of a whitetail hunt in one of the "Huge Buck" areas of the US and Canada. A western Elk hunt. Brown bear in Alaska. Or an African safari. But I put my family ahead of my whitetail dreams and invested in property we could enjoy together. No, I'll never shoot a buck over 150" on that land but the memories made there will last me and my family a lifetime. But I'm still young! So ya just never know where I may end up hunting, before it's all said and done! And it doesn't cost anything to dream!

Funny, I use the name Matt when being questioned.

Got two grandsons age 12 and 14. I was meant to be called Grand-pa but when the oldest started talking it came out grampy. That's what stuck. They are what keeps me young and my two best buddies! And that's what I'm called by them. Everyone else calls me Dave
