  1. After seeing your work here before. I'm sure this will be very nice as well! I'll be following this one too!
  2. It doesn't matter what day of the week the the opener is on. I will always be doing last minute things and not seeping well the night before. But I do kinda miss the Monday opener.
  3. I shot my biggest buck ever, in a blizzard. Going to air out my portable chair blind tonight. No deer is worth getting hurt. So use common sense and keep safe, traveling and in the woods.
  4. Congratulations Grizz! She looks like lots of tasty vittles, no matter what she weighs. Most times, unless it's a HUGE doe we don't weigh them. Just cut em up and put em in the freezer!
  5. Congratulations grow!! Nice shot and recovery. Some tender morsels going in the freezer. Way to go!
  6. I tried being a good guy many, many times. And tried taking extended family, social friends and co-workers hunting, on our farm property. 90 percent of the time, it ended in a circus act, me being ticked off, hard feelings on someones part or all of the above. Now it's just my lifelong friend / land partner and our "close" families. Once in a great while I will invite someone to hunt my lake property. Only after I consider them to be an experienced, competent hunter. If I am mentoring a hunter, or hunting with someone I'm not real familiar with, I do it on state land. This seems to work well for me. And is much less aggravating!!!
  7. For sure a doe peeing. That's how they do it. Seen it so many times.
  8. Venison stew tonight!!! Using the last of my venison, from 2015. My freezer is bare, as I didn't fill an archery tag this year. Hoping to put meat in it again, before the end of next week!!!
  9. My old Ithaca model 37s loved the Remimington Sluggers. Killed many deer out to 75 yards with that set up.
  10. I'll hunt heavy wind but not heavy rain.
  11. The Bigfeet are no threat to the deer! Because the deer always smell them coming.
  12. Savage Axis with upgraded glass and trigger. 7mm/08 140gr Federal Premium Nosler BTs.
  13. Been since 2001, that I did not fill my early archery tag. Guess I'll be dusting off the TC Shadow Hawk for late season this year. That won't be such a bad thing!
  14. Gotta admit, I'm scratching my head too. Saturday I had a shooter 8pt and three or four other bucks harassing some does. Hunted all of yesterday and this morning and didn't see a deer. But cams show tons of deer at night! These are lightly hunted private properties . With close to 50 blinds, stands and set ups. The most hunted set up was used 4 times in a month and a half. So far this year, the deer are winning the game. And that's ok by me.
  15. Congratulations ! Beautiful deer! You will shoot more and bigger deer. But the first one will always hold a special place, when your thoughts turn to hunting. Way to go!
  16. Calling it a done bow season. No deer seen this morning. But cams are showing multiple bucks at night on both properties . Will spend the rest of the day washing hunting clothes and getting everything ready for Saturday's firearm opener . Best of luck to all who are sticking it out to the end. Anyone have a good recipe for tag soup?.......lol
  17. One more day to get it done in bow season for me. This has been a real tough season. But I will not complain . I've passed up a bunch of small bucks and seen some shooters but had no shots. Also chose to pass on a few doe. Was hoping to see my grandson get his first deer, but, it did not happen this year. Overcame an early season injury, that could have been much worse. Saw some beautiful sun rises and sets. Watched the leaves flutter to the ground and saw them blown sideways by the wind. Felt a crisp autumn breeze in my face and was chilled. Was warmed by seeing my lifelong friend and his daughter harvest nice deer. Watched a button buck for almost three hours feeding close to me on an oak ridge, from a blind I built myself. And wondered if our paths would cross again in the years to come. So tomorrow another bow season will be in the books for me. And weather I get a deer, or not. It's been a bow season to remember.
  18. Sako Classic has been my dream rifle for a long time. The dream is coming true for me. I smile every time I think about it.
  19. A Song For You, is my all time Leon Russell tune. Wish I had a dollar for every time I played and listened to that one. RIP Mr. Russell.
  20. That's just awesome X 2! Congratulations !
  21. Things really got crazy at the end of the day! About a half hour before the end of shooting time. A big doe and fawn came in to ten yards of my natural ground blind. They were feeding but nervous . Then at high alert, looking behind me. Then off they go running up hill away from me. Being chased by a BIG 8pt. I had no shot as he was running away from me uphill! I mouth grunted him and he did stop and turn, but now he was out of range. Then a spike buck came from below and stops at 15 yards, let him go. Another buck comes from below, a half rack 8pt. let him pass as well. Now it's past shooting time and a bunch of deer are running along the top of the ridge and yet another buck runs uphill to join the chase! All the while, the wind is howling! My best hunt of the season so far! I think I know where I'll be in the morning! Saw two shooter bucks during the morning as well! I'd say the chase is on in our area! But the doe are not ready yet. Tomorrow should be real interesting !!!
