Cool! I think you will really like bow hunting, if you are an outdoorsy type person. It gets you out during the most beautiful time of the year for deer. Although hunting turkeys and small game is a blast too! So if ya get out with BB, this weekend, let us know how ya do! Pretty sure he has some good spots picked out. So best of luck! Have fun! Keep safe.

Did I pick up a trail cam from you over the summer? If so, it's working great and I love it! Thanks! Do you bow hunt?

Very cool and very encouraging! -
Pretty thick through the chest and neck. I'd say he's a real nice buck, no matter how many points he has! Luck to ya grow!

I recently tried the Ever Calm, and so far, it seems to work pretty good! And I have not used scents in years! Watched deer walk right over where I came in and they showed no sign of alarm whatsoever. If I see any adverse reactions, I will post that as well.

You had a great morning hunt! Even though no shot was taken. Always so cool to see and hear something, you never have before! Turkey's can be every bit as fun to watch as deer! -
Check with some local taxidermy shops. It may be as easy as dropping off the hides and picking them up when done. Hope this helps!

Great photos! Thanks for sharing!

Welcome! And so glad you are joining us! Looking forward to your point of view. As hunting with your brother, I'm sure is always fun and interesting! Best of luck to you this hunting season!

There are moments when your kids do something, that warms your heart. And you just know, you will never forget that moment. And if you are lucky, you will have many such moments. You, my friend, are a lucky man.

The best way to get a brisk debate going. Is to ask a bunch of hunters, "what rifle should I get"?
-
Our opinions are of equal value. Even when they differ.

I really don't think the buck that dropped in his tracks from my Axis last season, knew what brand of rifle killed him. And I'm certain he never knew how much the rifle that killed him cost. Not sure why you would openly bash what another hunter uses, because it doesn't meet YOUR standards. Just sayin........jeez.

Another great tracking job from you and Luna!!! What a great team! Was this in SZ? Cause if it is, crossbow is not open yet.
-
Another thing I did to improve my Axis, was to order a new trigger spring. Got it on Amazon for $20. Improved the trigger pull from almost 7 pounds to just about 3.5 pounds! took about 15 min. to install. Besides the glass upgrade, it was the best improvement made to this rifle!

I took your advice a couple years ago, with this exact set up and I'm very happy with it! I would add. Use the Federal Premium Nosler Bullistic Tip ammo in 140 gr. For dead right there results and great accuracy out of this rifle!

That's a REALLY nice buck! Mine only leave $5

When it gets real cold, temps in the teens and lower, I will have 6 or 7 layers on, starting with the UA base. This time of year, I have an insulated Jacket that the sleeves can zipper off. So during bow season I have the sleeves off and wear it like a vest with a base layer and 2 or 3 sweat shirts under it. This layering allows me to stay warm in the morning and easily remove layers later when it warms up. And also keeps the bulk off my arms to be able to shoot my bow. Later when it gets real cold just zip on the sleeves. This was bought at Bass Pro Shops as part of a 3 piece jacket, vest, coat, and coat with over shell. It did cost more than $100 but it's versatility from early to late season, makes it worth the money spent. And I've had mine for a few years, it has held up nicely to the abuse I put it through.

Right on! Not worth the risk of getting injured yourself! Especially if you have a sharp knife in your hand with a thrashing deer!

I agree with this especially if you have a coyote population on the property. My partner hit a nice 8pt. on sat, half hour before legal shooting time ended. He said he thought the shot was good but it "sounded" funny. He went to the hit site and found the arrow, with evidence of a gut hit. So he backed out and we met up, deciding to let him go over night, based on what the arrow told us. We are both NYS lisenced deer trackers, so the next morning we got a young dog, and took up the trail. we found the deer a little over 75 yards away from the hit site. When he shot at the broadside deer at 20 yards the deer must have turned toward him, a bit at the shot, as the arrow went in behind the shoulder, took out the heart and one lung, clipped the other lung and exited the front part of the gut. the deer was dead before he even got out of his stand! But based on what that arrow told us, we did the right thing by letting him go overnight. And our coyote control must be working, as he was untouched!

A few years ago, had a guy set up by my tree stand, he came from the state land that borders ours. We have the lines heavily posted with our names. So I walk up and say, you are on private land and the land owner would like you to leave! He tells me that >>>> >>>>>> is my buddy and gave me permission to be here. I looked him right in the eye and told him in a not so nice way, that I am >>>> >>>>>>, and I've never seen you before and to pack up and get off my property, NOW! I hate it when someone lies to my face! We have gotten a reputation for being rude to trespassers and having people ticketed, by having a couple close friends, who are state troopers hunting there. The only way to stem the tide of trespassers is to be not so nice, and to be on the property, a lot!

Take his gift and bring some peanuts for him, the next time! I will bring some peanuts to my ground blinds as an offering for them to be quiet while I'm sitting there. Some will come right into the blind and take it while others just chatter right above my head! -

Great job and a hearty congratulations! Way to get it done! Some fine eats right there! -
On both maps it looks like you have marked a gully or cut. Using the top one, on the bottom by the water, there should be a good pinch point for deer travel. I'd set up with the water to my back. And with a NE wind you should be good! just watch the thermals. On the 2nd map go to the top of the cut, as there is a bench at the top like moog pointed out. Deer will move around the top of the gully along the bench. So set up either on lip of the next bench, so you are looking down at the deer. Or on the same level, with the bank at your back. And again a NE wind will work there. Hope this makes sense and helps you. It is similar to to hill country Iv'e hunted most of my life. Wish you the very best of luck! Just come back if you have more questions, as there are many better hunters than I here.
