  1. He was on his way out to baseball practice and it came! He is sooo excited! We will get a rest on it, make a few adjustments and have him shooting by this weekend. Just want to thank The_Real_TCIII for the awesome deal and making a 12 year old boy and his grampy very happy!
  2. I just keep my mind in the game. Always looking for deer, saying to myself, if they come from here I'll do this or that. Is the wind right? Ranging trees, watching other wildlife. And most important, staying alert to what is going on around me! I'm hunting!!! If i get tired or things are just too slow, I'll come out or scout/still hunt. It's way too easy to miss something if your head is not in the game or you are distracted.
  3. Wow! Nice trip! And awesome fishing! Way to go!
  4. Hmmmmm, what one do you choose? Both are very nice! Sure is good to have a decision like that! Best of luck to ya!
  5. Last year the abnormally warm weather and bountiful mast crop, kept deer movement to a minimum. But they did move! You just needed to be very close to preferred food sources or into or very close to the thickest stuff on the property, where they were bedding. They just did not need to or want to travel very far for anything last year. So less movement meant less sightings for a lot of hunters.
  6. It's in the solitude and peace of the woods that I find it the easiest to "speak" with my loved ones who have passed on. And it's where I can hear them "speak" back to me through the wind in the trees. Without this, I'm not sure I could have made it through some of the darkest hours. I'd be willing to start a group hunt up in the capitol region! Maybe Partridge Run or Thatcher Park and who knows, perhaps on private land.
  7. Real nice out there tonight! And today was perfect too. Wish I wasn't at work though. Off next week hoping to get some cams out and do some woods work! Been a hot and busy summer!
  8. This can be the difference between deer or no deer! The hunter that never gives up. They are out there when is's too cold, warm, raining, snowing, windy, deer aren't moving, too tired to get up in the morning and a hundred other excuses. The most consistent hunters are the ones with fewer excuses!
  9. Very true. It was found to be constitutional by the very same ones who passed the law .
  10. The Safe Act, passed in the dead of night, behind closed doors is a good example. Right? Oh.... wait .....that was who?
  11. There you have it! A classic case of the blind leading the blind.
  12. As opposed to last year, when food was plentiful and everywhere. The deer, this year will have to move a bit farther to feed. This may work to the hunters benefit.
  13. Hunt the wind!!!! If the wind is wrong you are not going to get a deer close enough for a shot. Keep the wind in your face. Everything else is moot, skill with your bow, property you hunt, if the deer are catching your wind before you even see them. Have multiple set ups for different wind directions and move if the wind shifts. The #1 thing I tell new hunters, pay attention to wind direction!
  14. Congrats on getting a new compound. The PSE stinger is a great choice. The shop you are buying the bow from will be a huge help, guiding you in the correct set up. 55 pound draw will be more than enough to zip arrows through deer. With a compound you will have let off, that you don't have with the trad bows. It's an easy adjustment to increase poundage, so start a little on the light side. Most people find the trigger style release aid, more comfortable so I'd go with that. Also a D-loop will add about a half inch to your draw length. Whisker Biscuit sights are great, easy to use and adjust. Again the shop will give sound advice on arrows that will work best with your set up. So since you have a good working relationship with them, let them guide you in setting up. Most all have fun with your new bow! Post some pic's for us to see of the bow and your shots as they improve over the next few weeks!
  15. It's going to be well worth it when done! Can't wait to see the finished pic's. Looks great so far.
  16. Yes, they look great together! Beautiful mounts of awesome bucks!
  17. Clear a spot on the wall. He's gonna look so good there! This is your year!
  18. I've been using Rocky boots for years with good results. Comfortable, warm and waterproof. Many styles to choose from too. And within your price range. They have served me well and I have no complaints.
  19. Using your way of thinking, you stand a good chance of jumping the wounded deer from it's bed and NOT recovering it. Each blood trail is different. Sometimes the best thing to do, if you are not SURE of the hit, is to just leave them until morning. I hope you don't have to rely on that "bloodglow" stuff to recover your deer.
  20. Way to go! Nice catchin is gonna make some good eatin! What did you catch em on?
  21. And I thought carrying a crossbow in the woods was awkward! Nice pic's though!
  22. As long as the hunt was legal I have no problem with it. Is it something I would do? No. Was the guy kinda goofy? Yeah. But I too have acted a bit goofy after recovering a hard hunted animal. Also, from what I saw, this bear died very shortly after being hit. Not hours later. In my opinion, Under Armor caved to the anti's propaganda machine and will no longer be on this hunters shopping list. You either promote hunting or you don't. Even under the best of conditions killing, is never pretty.
