I got my Axis 7mm-08 for Christmas last year. Upgraded the glass with a Leopold 3x9x40 and did some trigger work. I have shot the 140gr Fusions, 140gr Honady Whitetails, 120 and 140gr Remington Core Loc's and a couple others and they all shot good. But the Federal 140gr BT's shot the best for me. And will be the round I will use this hunting season. This will be my first year hunting with a rifle, so I don't know how well any of these perform on deer. Will the 120gr BT's perform as good or better than the 140gr BT's on deer?

I got bored yesterday, not seeing deer. So decided to do my first and most likely last selfy...lol -
Too bad when you screw over someone that was doing you a good deed. Shows a lot of class. Man up for once in your sorry life and pay up! jjb4900, l and I'm sure, the vast majority of members here, commend you for your generosity, in trying to help a fellow hunter. That was an awesome thing do do. Please don't let this sour you from being the better man that you are!

If you hit stomach or liver, and did not push him, I'm confident that you will find him dead in that thicket.

LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong
grampy replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
We have had bears here for as long as I can remember. But over the last ten to fifteen years their population has increased quite a bit. They travel more than deer do and I don't think that they will push deer out, as much as say a bunch of coyotes would. The bear yesterday, got to within sixty yards or so. Outside of my comfortable bow range while hunting. The main "problem" in my area now is the overabundance of food this year. The acorns and an array of other nuts are literally covering the ground on the farm property where I hunted yesterday. The deer, after feeding the night before, were most likely laid up feeling like I do after thanksgiving dinner! Can't ever remember not seeing a deer from this set up though. -
Did the arrow smell like gut? Also a LOT of fat around the kidney area as well, but that's higher up. Since you did not push him, you may find him dead in that thicket. The dogs do very well on paunch hits most times. Even when there is no blood to follow. Good luck for a quick recovery.

Hunted dark to dark yesterday. Saw zero deer and one bear. Have a few rubs nearby and the ground is carpeted with acorns on an oak ridge. This spot is usually crawling with deer early season! Pulled the cam with zero pic's as well. Back at work today, time to rethink my options for next weekend! -
Sounds like you had a really GOOD, first hunt! You were within bow range twice! Had deer sign in abundance. And you didn't wound the deer, you missed. You will get another chance, all of us has missed! Just shake it off and get back out there! Perhaps you could make a natural ground blind in that area? Good luck!

Absolutely awesome buck! Congratulations! He's got it all!

As stated previously, this is a private site. If they want to move ANY post ANYWHERE, they have the RIGHT to do so. You can agree or disagree, but they make the call. And ALL members should abide by what they call. Their site, they can make the rules. No disrespect to MrVJP, but you stated your point clearly enough. Now, it is what it is.

Shagbark hickory. Deer love em!

Congratulations Mike! Great story too. Way to hang in there with the tracking, and glad you found her. You will never forget the first bow kill! And yes, you will continue to learn. After many hunting seasons behind me, I'm still learning too. The only thing I would have done differently, is after I knew she was gut shot , to back out and give at least six hours before taking up the trail. I learned this lesson the hard way and pushed too early, lost the blood trail and then the deer too. Happy that it all worked out for you though!
