  1. I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the New York Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers is having a Pint Night in Brooklyn on March 8th from 6-9 at a Fette Sau, which is located at 354 Metropolitan Ave, Brooklyn, New York 11211 . http://www.fettesaubbq.com/ We'd love for anyone who is interested to join us for some great food, great beer, great raffles and a great time. You don't have to be a member to attend. There is no charge to get in, though you will be responsible for your own food and drinks. Here is a link to rsvp for the event: https://www.backcountryhunters.org/brooklyn_pint_night If you cannot make it, we will be having more events throughout the state this year- just check out our facebook page for more (New York Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers). I hope to see some of you there and have a beer with you (or a few, lol).
  2. Are there any other members on here that belong to the NY Chapter of Backcountry Hunters and Anglers? I know of myself and at least one other member on here but was curious if there is anyone else that belongs to the group. Basically it is a great group of people who support public lands access throughout the country as well as hold various events throughout the state. We have several clean-ups that we are working on setting up throughout the state, are creating a hunting for sustainability mentorship program as well as having pint nights all over the state where we get together and talk all things hunting and fishing while drinking good beer (who doesn't love that?). If anyone is interested, we have a pint night coming up on March 8th at Fette Sau in Brooklyn https://www.backcountryhunters.org/brooklyn_pint_night as well as our annual NY State Chapter Rendezvous on April 28th at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor, NY. We will have great raffles and door prizes at the events and we are working on more exciting things in the future. We also have a facebook page where you can get additional information as well as announcements of upcoming events. Just do a search on facebook for New York Chapter of Backcountry Hunters & Anglers (I tried to link to the page, but for some reason it didn't work on here). Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or would like to join. Or just stop by at any of the events...you don't have to be a member to attend. Hope to meet some of you at our upcoming events! Thanks for giving this a look- Tom
  3. Glad to know that Chris is moving and is OK, lol
  4. That's so cool that you found a dollar right there too, lol. That's some luck!
  5. A while back someone had a post asking what happened to some regular contributors to the forum. One of them was Sam Potter. Here's a cool interview with him on the Wired to Hunt website... http://wiredtohunt.com/2018/01/19/diy-deer-hunter-profile-sam-potter/
  6. To get out as much/as often as possible and just enjoy the time outdoors with friends. I put too much pressure on myself in the past and feel like some of the goals I set for myself were unattainable based on the caliber of deer that were available and/or the amount of time that I actually had to hunt. That took the fun out of hunting for me.
  7. onXmaps allow you to download maps/sattelite images to your phone for use when you don't have cell service. The gps function on your phone still works. The only downside to some is that it is not free. I believe that it is about $30 a year. I personally love it.
  8. Spend less time in the bar and more time in the woods. I would still be single if I did that, and I actually like my wife, so I am kind of glad that things worked out the way that they did....that being said, maybe spend half as much time in the bar, lol.
  9. Try this. State Lands Interactive Mapper http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/45415.html You have to go to "Layers" and make sure you put a check next to "Wild Life Management Unit" .
  10. Hey now....can't go wrong with any of them, but prefer bottom bow in all three pics. 1st choice- bottom second pic 2nd choice- bottom third pic 3rd choice- bottom first pic
  11. Someone should tell that guy that long john bottoms go under your hunting pants.
  12. Wow! He's a dandy....hope you can put a tag on him.
  13. I like to throw in some barbeque sauce while heating it up in a skillet and eat it like pulled pork. Also good as fajitas.
  14. That's awesome! Congrats! I agree with the others that have said that this is their favorite thread. Thanks for all that you do for other hunters and sharing the stories.
