  1. Most smokers dont think about how long the filters are going to be around. I used to smoke non filters for that reason. Now i dont smoke at all, quit cold turkey more than 8 years ago.
  2. If the deer dont move, take the hunt to them. They wont hear you in the snow, and you can spot them a lot easier in the white than in the bare woods.
  3. Bionic,do you have enough property to do a still hunt? Mixing it up is what makes me able to sit and see nothing. If i walk and see tails, that's something at least. Got close twice tuesday on the ground, less than 30 yds. That is a rush. Generally you see more on the ground, but shot opportunities are fewer.
  4. Not a bad thing to have in the freezer. I have gallon jugs of water in there right now just so it is not so empty. Need deer meat in there!!!
  5. same here phade, today was my last hurrah. I drew back on a doe,but she made me,so it was full frontal or quartering to. No shot and she and her two friends walked off. I was still hunting in the snow, and jumped that same group two more times. Oh well, back at it next year with a new bow,new arrows and broadheads and some brand of lit up nocks.
  6. I am heading out right now here in the southern tier to find some fresh tracks. 3" of snow,i will try to get myself a deer today, time is running out for archery success.
  7. I dont think glassing helps me personally. I checked out a group last night just after legal light and there was a good buck with the group. But it is very different to be 130 yds from them than being 13yds away. This is only my fourth bow season and 7th gun season,so it is all pretty fresh for me. But during gun i rarely get over excited, just pulling the trigger is much easier then shooting the bow. Last seasons gun buck was only 25 yds away and i had my gun leaning on a tree next to me. I had to grab it and aim pretty quickly and it was no big deal.
  8. I have had one deer at 15 yds all season, and screwed that shot up. It might be because i didn't get many close encounters this year. In a good season i get maybe 5 or more really close. I have had a bunch within 40 yds,but my confidence in my broadhead trajectory is not great at the moment,so nothing further than 20 yds is an option.
  9. i have your snow here cabinfever. We must have gotten 3 to 4 inches overnight here in 4F. Looks purty, but it would look better with some red on it...
  10. i think i will sit for an hour just outside my house. There are a few deer that are getting to comfortable in our yard...
  11. i took my jack russell/parson russell terrier with me when i came back in the a.m. to look for my shoulder shot doe. My pup is almost a year, and she did good for a stretch finding blood and staying on the trail. She did get confused when there were many trails to follow, but so did I. It was fun to have her along, and i think she could get good at it. It probably takes a good amount of practice, like anything.
  12. I wasn't talking about having any premature you know what problems. But that image would be helpful for that.
  13. It is amazing to me how after sitting in a stand for an hour or more my heartrate is probably below 60 bpm,and a nice deer walks into view and it goes to 120 or 150. No physical activity, just seeing a deer that i want to take. That is crazy, and i have no clue how to control that. I try just to deal with it,but didn't do so well with it when i hit a doe high in the shoulder earlier this season. I generally find i do better when i have more time then when things happen fast.
  14. cabin, according to my math you are way overdue for some nice sightings and even a shot opportunity. I have been seeing deer, but not getting good shots. I give you a lot of credit for your persistence. If i sit for more than a handful of times without action i get frustrated. Hoping that one minute that changes everything is coming right up for ya.
  15. i got lucky my first, but my third season(last) was tag soup. I feel pretty eager to get one this year....
  16. I had a lone deer walk by at 6.40. Not sure if it was a little buck or a lone doe,but a lone deer is always hard to judge, sizewise. Plus it was a few mins early, but it didnt present a shot for my compound anyway. I would like the next one a tad closer please...oh,and on the ground!!!!
  17. ok,this is to all of us who haven't gotten a deer yet this season. Let's do it today!!! And especially moho, the first is a big deal,so best of luck to you.
  18. I am going to sit at the end of a 40yd wide strip of woods between a pasture and a golden rod field. Where i sit the golden rod ends and turns into woods. The golden rod will be upwind of the strip of woods. All of this has my hopes up,but a lot of the time the deer dont seem to have the same ideas that i have. It would be nice to get a shot at one tomorrow. Oh,and i think i will sit on the ground, better coverage from there. My tree stand doesn't cover enough area with the limbs in the way.
  19. i bet it did, that is a long track in anyone's book. I hope you find him dead but intact, best of luck.
  20. wow,two mile track? You must have nudged him before that if you really got a lung and liver. That is a long way to travel. What time did you shoot him? Probably wait till morning would be best...
  21. What a massive rack, that is awesome!! Congratulations!!
  22. It really is too bad about the taxes and cost of living here. It is such a beautiful state, with some very poor areas sprinkled in for sure. But the landscape is awesome...
