  1. I will be headed to my friends camp shortly, maybe i can catch up with the buck i saw during bow season,or one of buddies. Then we will spend the night and put on some pushes tomorrow. There will be 6 or 7 of us...
  2. I have work to do this morning, but i hope to get out this afternoon. This buck tag won't punch itself...
  3. That looks great, but it would taste better if the greens and tomatoes were in season. Probably would knock your socks off.
  4. I like maine, but the mosquitoes there are no joke. One summer i went fishing on a trout stream in the evening north of augusta, and i had to flee. Those things bit through my shirt and there were thousands of them. I got nervous that they would carry me off. When i got back to the house my wife could not believe that i returned so quickly. Oh and i was using bug spray as well.
  5. People around here road hunt some as well, not much one can do about it. If it is a repeat thing though i would try to put a stop to it. Usually folks get more desperate as the season progresses.
  6. I got on a fresh trail this morning, followed it for a good stretch. I was pretty sure it was a buck, kept following this snowed in trail. I never did catch up before i ran out of time. We have maybe 11 " of snow in the woods here, and some stuck to the trees. Makes for poor visibility, but it is pretty. I am still hoping to fill my buck tag,but won't be too broken up if i dont. Muzzle loader season will allow me to knock down a few more does.
  7. I have to say that there is good and bad everywhere you go. I grew up in northern Germany until i was 24,then traveled on the west coast and met my wife there, which is from uostste new york and that is how i settled here. The state is beautiful ,so varied and interesting. If one enjoys the outdoors it is hard to not love NY. When i was in Oregon i bicycled from the coast to the Willamette valley, about 85 miles, and there is nothing between the two but woods. I came through two villages, both with under 10 houses. That was mindblowing for someone growing up in germany. Ny and PA combined are about the size of germany, but there's 90 million people in germany now. It is so much more crowded there, even NY seems like a wide open state. One just has to figure out what is the most important and decide from there.

    Ticks

I dont think the ticks are gonna hang on to a dead body for a week. So unless you skin them right away there is no way of knowing.
  9. I couldn't even get my firewood in my basement. The ground was so wet i couldn't drive the truck to the door. Now we have snow to keep the ground from freezing. This is not looking good for someone who relies solely on wood heat.
  10. It is fun to read your posts. I am glad we have such a hardcore big woods hunter on the forum. I dream of giving that kind of hunting a go sometime, but on a smaller scale. It is great you are doing what you love, most of us make more compromises that keep us from that. Hats off!
  11. Turkeyfeathers, just rest up a little. You have been at it hard, but it is not over yet. If the hunting gods were watching they are about to send a big buck towards you and bionic as well. I have gone through phases of being frustrated and bored, doing archery makes for a looong season, and not to forget muzzle loader. The deer will go back to their regular patterns soon, although regular is not a good word for what they are up to this year. They are all over the place here,no good food crops to find them consistently.
  12. I wonder about that too sometimes. My friend and I trim all white stuff, which takes a lot of time. I think the silverskin, sinew affects flavor more than texture if you grind it.
  13. i am an expert in late reporting, self proclaimed mind you. Have not had an issue yet,and i am going to try it out again today since i forgot to report my doe from 8 days ago. Better late than never, could be a life motto. And how come you moved to dicksville? I hear it isnt a great place to live, haha.
  14. I went for a long still hunt down a ravine and around the bottom of hill today saw one button buck at the start and then a coyote at dark I didn't even cut a fresh track, and i cut plenty of tracks. The deer must really be nocturnal here in 4F right now. Depressing.
  15. Maybe not. Could be he wanted to clean his gun at the kitchen table and the wife starting berating him,and then an idea popped in his head... Seriously though, even if one was dumb enough to clean a gun with a round in it,what are the chances of it hitting the wife if it does go off? close to 0
  16. This is my 7th or 8th hunting season, and my buddy gutted the first deer i withessed him shoot during muzzle loader season. The next year i got my first doe with a gun and since i was by myself i had to gut it by myself. I was not fast, but got it done. I feel like i am pretty average at it now without making a mess. That being said, after i got home after gutting the doe i got last weekend my wife said: "What's that on your face? Blood?" I guess i wasn't as clean about it as i thought. Overzealous maybe, haha.
  17. You absolutely should, What if you are not there one day? I dont enjoy gutting or cutting up a deer, but it is part of the process for me.
  18. That is too bad. I have lost all patience for sitting still during gun season,I might try it again for muzzle loader season. The deer are so cagey now,i rather go look for them than waiting for them to come to me.
  19. I slept in today, but headed out for a short slow walk soon. hoping to find a careless buck...
