I have a stand about 60 yards from the road on a field edge. I have shot and seen nice deer in this location. It does get annoying when on a busy road.

Unfortunately I cannot make it to those meeting between my family and job I have very limited free time. It would be nice if they threw a flyer in the mail or put something in the newspaper to help people know when they meetings are. I am unaware of when these meetings take place or if I do see something it is 2+ hour drive.

Not many people can shoot deer like that every year especially in NY. On our property we are in a 3 year rotation. I have taken 130"+ deer every 3 years. Crappy part is the other 120" 8 points I see each year must not make it very long.

Well I would like to let you know that the 3.5 yr old I shot last week at the very end of the rut is nice and gamey. I did end up making all but 10 pounds into burger/italian patty sausage/trail bologna. It tastes good but can definitely tell its more gamey than my other buck that was loaded with fat. I mixed all the above with pork so it cuts the gamey flavor down quite a bit.

Data for hunting licenses sold over 50 years

I wouldn't think so being a pension that should be a totally separate fund (NYS retirement) and as the contibutor contributes so does the state but that still isn't much more than 3% of the salary for approximately 30 years. -
Welcome! haha

Cool and a pretty modest fellow by the sounds of it.

No I'm not but why are they always complaining about not having enough money? Everything done has to be done via bid so I would think there would be more money than they are leading onto or someone is padding their pockets when it comes to state bids and such. In several areas where I have hunted state property they haven't invested any money into over the past 10 years or longer. -
As long as you aren't causing damage to the road (rubber tires and not tracks or steel tractor tires.)
-
If used on a farm and has a SMV sign on it you can legally drive a short distance down the road. And also needs to be registered.

Here is my process. Grab antlers/head place on atv rack, then climb onto ATV, stand on back rack while putting pressure against head to keep on rack then dig heels into rack and pull. If it is too big to get onto 4 wheeler alone...get tractor. But seriously I just use my body weight to my advantage. I usually dress them at a different location so I do this with guts. Great idea tho.

Brass- Once fired will be fine, just after a FL re-size inspect for stress cracks using a bright light. If you can use a tumbler/vibratory polisher to clean the brass prior to extracting the spent primer (leave primer in so new primers will fit snug and won't need to clean pocket out . It will make seeing those stress cracks much easier. Primers- I only use CCI primers I have had 1 failure to fire (no pop) and it was user error, when I was reloading the primer had the star shaped brass piece fall out and I didn't realize it. So no powder to make it go pop. Muzzle Velocity- It doesn't really play a big role other than the trajectory will be flatter. You are shooting a .308 and planning on going after larger game so I wouldn't be too concerned about it. If you are concerned just look for bullets with high ballistic coefficients. I would look at nosler hunting bullets (ballistic tip spitzer boattail). They are a great bullet and I personally had them shoot better out of my tikka .270 than hornady sst. I also had factory loaded cor-lokts shoot just as well even tho there have been some discrepancies posted lately.

I have hung stands in the morning in 80* weather sweat dripping off my face and getting all over, that night killed a 120" 8 point. Point being you can put scent down they might not like it but with everyone in the woods and all their scent they are in sensory overload.

Anyone notice the amount of revenue? 27 million dollars from just license sales. Wow where is it all going? -

That is only part of the bill. In every bill there is always something the other side (left or right wing) want that is to try and sway those on the fence that could careless about the other stuff within the bill so it will get passed. -
IF there isn't anything around that 550 acres I would definitely be putting in some plots. I have seen small plots produce great numbers of deer. Food plots and low pressure will surely bring in deer. Google micro food plots, they are small 50'x50' some larger but they are meant to be small and productive. I would plant that access road to something durable to high traffic like clover or alfalfa.

My wife killed her first deer last night . . .
chas0218 replied to Deerthug's topic in General Chit Chat
Was it like this? http://www.cnn.com/videos/us/2015/12/02/kenton-county-police-deer-video-vstan-orig-pkg-aj.cnn All joking aside glad to hear she was ok. Knock on wood I haven't gotten one with a vehicle. -
Thermocell heated insoles. I tried them for the first time this year (got them for xmas last year). I won't go on long sits without them they are the cat's meow.

crazy looking deer. That would be quite the conversation piece. I love those odd looking racks.

Many of those younger voters don't realize how much their vote can sway the election into the right direction (no pun intended). My wife hates politics and refuses to vote I have tried anything and everything to get her to go in with me but she just doesn't want too. I have tried for the past 10 years to get her to vote but for the life of me I can't get her out there. I hope more of the younger generation is waking up because the country's debt is going to be their problem to fix. -
Hmm didn't see that. Sorry for the re-post.

I hunt 8X and have seen a lot of deer but I haven't seen many people passing on deer. My friends on facebook all hunt 8X and 8T right on the border of the WMU's and they seem to be dropping everything that walks. 8N I have seen and heard of people holding out and showing some discretion although my FIL's neighbor shot a 1 1/2 year old 8 point. He would have been a true stud in 2 years this thing was already a 60" 8 point and only 1 1/2. O well there is still a slammer up there hopefully no one gets him and he is a B&C next year.

Too many bleeding hearts out there that believe if we are nice to others they will be nice to us. I work with a lot that feel that way, I ask them if they believe it or just say it to try and convince themselves of the nonsense. -
Yeah I have heard the same about bears. If they eat a lot of garbage they taste like garbage if they eat berries they taste like berries or not like garbage. I bet it goes the same for any species deer alike. I shot a nice 8 point last year in jefferson county opener of early season that didn't hang but a couple hours (75° out) and the roasts are like shoe leather, thank god they are gone.
