  1. Everyone needs to find their own comfort level and what is going to keep them warm. I suppose a "heated jacket" would be nice but it just struck me funny and couldn't make me help but wonder what will be next. Me... if I get cold I get up & move around til I get warm and if I can't get warm I head to the truck or house. Technology is nice but sometimes I think we go a little to far. If it woks for you and it is something you want...go for it None of my business Just trying to point out it seem like there is an app for just about anything today.
  2. There is probably an app out there some where to remedy the problem.
  3. Very Nice Big Mature Buck...hope he realizes he will probably never see on like that again!
  4. Can't believe no one (dr.'s) thought to test for it before. From what I understand the sooner it is treated the better. No comparison but I lost a good coonhound to Lyme disease last winter. By the time it was diagnosed it was to late. Not a pretty thing to watch. Ticks are getting worse an worse. Wish the state would spend more time and money fighting something like that instead of gun control. Hope everything goes well and they can get you back up and running!
  5. Runnings has Federal & Winchester 20 & 12 gauge rifled slugs on sale until 11/6 for $3.29/5. Hornady sst or whitetail slugs for 8.99/5 and Federal rifle cartridges staring @ 14.49 with a $5.00 rebate. Winchester SuperX Power point for .243,.270,.308, 30-06 for $17.99/20, 7mm Remington mag for $25.99/20 , Winchester Deer Season XP for .243, .270, .308, & 30-06 for $18.99/20 and 150 grain 30/30 for $15.99 They are also advertising Hornady Rifle ammo from $17.99 & up to $24.99 for 7mm Remington. Figure I had better stock up the way bow season is going. But then again last gun season I never fired a shot. They won't rot so I 'll have them. Thought I would pass it on. As far as I know there is only four Runnings stores in the state: Canandaigua, Clay, Gloversville, and Rome. Probably won't help the vast majority but maybe a few.
  6. I'll be putting in three tomorrow To Bad the state doesn't update their website as fast as they dictate the laws!!!!
  7. rachhunter: Here is the link to the safe act question & answer page. turkeyfeathers: I hope you are right...I can't open the Yahoo link you posted...says it is forbidden???? I have been carrying seven when out & about. At home if shooting I do what I want. Help Forbidden This link is not authorized by Yahoo. Copyright © 2016 Yahoo Inc. All rights reserved. 8. I haven't seen any official updates to this: Q: Can I continue to buy 10 round magazines? A: Yes, the SAFE Act does not affect your ability to continue to buy 10 round magazines Q: How many rounds can I put in my magazine? A: While at a recognized range, whether you are there for recreation or for participating in shooting competitions, you may load the full ten rounds into any magazine you have. Starting on April 15, 2013, you are limited to putting 7 rounds in the magazine in all other locations.
  9. Robin As usual a great video...Beautiful country and a great experience. No Game.........who cares!!
  10. Recipe calls for canola or corn oil but I bet Olive oil would be just as good. I used canola because we have quite a bit of that on hand. Maybe olive oil on a small batch next time.
  11. I left the seeds in....they do have a little bite but not enough where you can't enjoy them. They are great on a cracker or just by themselves. Just a little messy!
  12. Grow Was at a party a couple of weeks ago and had some made like below: Got the recipe and bought a quart of jalapenos and tried a batch myself. They turned out great and have been eating them out of jar since. I like jalapenos but am not a big fan of vinegar so never pickled them. I found these to be delicious!!! Only drawback as I am sure you know is doing them in oil can be somewhat messy. I included a small recipe break down at the bottom if you don't want to do 8 quarts and want to try it. Messy but good. HOT PEPPERS 8 quarts jalapeno peppers, washed 1 quart vinegar 2 cups canning salt 2 tbsp Oregano 4-5 cloves garlic, finely cut Canola or Corn oil to cover when canning. 1. While wearing gloves, cut peppers into rings. 2. Place in pot with vinegar, salt, and enough water to cover; let stand overnight. 3. Next day drain and rinse with cold water. 4. Return to pot, add garlic, oregano, and corn or canola oil. Let sit for a couple of hrs. & mix/stir on occasion 5. Mix well and add to sterilized jars, cover with oil leaving 1/4 inch of space on top. 6. Don't tighten seals too tightly; place on cookie sheet in 300 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Place on towels, cover to seal. For 1 qt. Of peppers 4 oz vineger ¼ cup of salt 1 tsp. Of oregano ½ clove chopped garlic Makes 7 ½ Pint Jars
  13. ADK SAID: Congrats on your many rodeos. Not sure if your trying to say I shouldn't comment because you think I don't know what I'm talking about but I'm not getting into that pissing match Didn't say I wanted a pissin contest. I have seen it a number of times... in fact at least once a year in my area. The whole point of my post in cased you missed it was finding scrapes (4 in a row) with antler marks in the dirt without a overhead branch of any kind. THAT is something I have never seen. I have put a camera out to try to see what is going on and if I find anything out I will post for all members. Other than that I will not be discussing this again. Sorry you haven't seen it.
  14. Same thing here but I did see a small 4 point this morning @ 9:15
  15. Congrats nice bird. Seen birds just about every time I bow hunt but none of them will come close enough for a shot. Amazes me how sneaky they can be. Can't really scatter a flock from a tree stand.
  16. ME TO!! Only getting night pictures here. (except for the occasional flock of turkeys)
  17. She is fine but her brand new car is a mess. When down the whole one side of it the way she explained it. Of course they didn't take the deer.....None of them eat venison again GO FIGURE
  18. Went back out this afternoon and didn't see any from the stand. Jumped three different does in two locations on the way out. My daughter called a little while ago and said a buck ran in to the side of her car on the way home from work and smashed it all up. GO FIGURE
  19. ADK.....This ain't my first rodeo. I don't comment on things I do not know about. Please read the following partial article: Deer Scrapes & Rubs - Reading Deer Sign Part 2 Part II of our series of three articles regarding how to read deer sign, focuses on "scrapes & rubs." Deer "scrape" the ground with their hooves- - and at times will do so with their antlers. The scrapes will range from the size of a dinner plate to that of a child's portable swimming pool. Put money on the fact that if you find a swimming pool sized scrape, you've either got one huge trophy buck, or it's a "community scrape," where all the deer are together. That type of community scrape usually means younger, or immature bucks. A mature buck will normally stay to himself and scrape distinct areas to announce his presence and mark his territory. I have seen it MANY times over the years
  20. Not these....there are distinct antler marks in the dirt on all of them so I know they are not does, or turkeys. The first one I found I thought it may have been a attempt of another hunter to make a mock crape. I covered it up with leaves twice and both times it has been dug out again. With each dig out it gets bigger & bigger and you can see the tine marks in the dirt. I doubt a turkey would scratch in the exact same spot twice.
  21. Had a yearling four point come by at 9:15, couldn't get a shot and probably wouldn't have anyway. Stuck his nose is a freshly made scrape & kept going. Found 4 new scrapes since Monday. Funny part is there are 5 scrapes right in the general area and 4 of them do not have a overhead branch. Going to set a camera this afternoon when I go back out on the latest scrape line and see what develops.
  22. The_Real_TCIII & Oderless..Very nice bucks
  23. Just one comment on calling...you need to be very careful using the grunt call as the season progresses. On a number of occasions I have used the grunt call in an effort to bring a buck I could see into range only to have them bolt at the sound of the call. Once a subordinate has had his butt kicked by a dominate buck he usually isn't going to stick around. The doe bleat works better in my opinion. About 5 or 6 years ago while set up just inside the woods had a buck in a winter wheat field about 100 yards away. Hit the bleat and he immediately came running in my direction. Got to the edge of the woods, stopped & began making a scrape. Gave me a nice broad side shot at about 20 yds. When the rut is on and they are looking for does... if I call at all I use the bleat. Just one opinion.
