I wasn't me...mine is hanging in the basement
-
That appears to be a Habanero. If it is I would proceed with extreme caution and not touch any sensitive parts of the body after handling. They are the real deal and are extremely hot under any conditions.
-
That is why every year I mark the dates of all the seasons on the calendar. When they start & end. Thanks to coyotes I am good til the end of March unless it is really , really important.
-
Probably a snowflake that saw one of these while scouting:

Here is a link you can use to keep up with some of the bigger bucks taken. As you will see there are some nice ones from all over. https://www.nyantler-outdoors.com/2018-new-york-whitetails.html

I like the convenience of ladder stands but when I need to move or come across a new area to hunt it is tough to beat a climber. I use mine both bow & gun.
-
No sign of rut here is 8h. A few rubs and does seem to be still hanging out in groups. Haven't seen any bucks in about three weeks.
-
Been there and done that. That's why now I zip tie my quiver right to the bracket. Mine has fallen off more than once and I found that to be a good fix so when I want to remove the quiver it just takes a quick cut. I cant imagine how the world would survive without duck tape or zip ties

One other thing I do as a added security once I am in at my desired height is use a ratchet strap to strap the top section to the tree and cinch it pretty tight. Keeps you secure and will also almost eliminate any unwanted or unexpected speaks or noises.
-
1) Climb with a harness attached to the tree and move it up as you go. 2) Make sure you you have the lower half connected to the upper half with either a rope or a strap. 3) When you first hook it up to the tree get it as tight as possible and still be able to climb. 4) Don't make your first trip 10-15 ft. Go up 4 or 5' at and back down two or three times to get the hang of it. 5) As far as getting gear tie a rope(s)/paracord or whatever to what you want to bring up and attach it to the climber. I usually tie to the upper half. Place it away from the stand in the event of a fall so you do not land on it. 6) Once you are secure at the height you want then pull your bow etc. up They can take awhile to get use to but once you get the hang of it they are a piece of cake. Good Luck and Happy hunting

I for one do not bait and really do not see the need. I prefer getting them in their natural environment under natural conditions. I move around to much and hunt different areas to even think about baiting anyway. Besides with my luck one of the neighboring properties would probably shoot them on the way to the bait anyway and I am not going to help them by baiting. I also have a hard time seeing the difference between baiting and food plots other than one is legal and one is not. There is enough farm land around me that they will eat what they want when they want anyways.

Went back out for an afternoon sit since it was such a nice day. Saw 7 doe; to far away for a shot but at least I am seeing them. 16 does in three sits isn't bad for this area. Haven't seen a set of horns yet since the season opened. Going to scout it some more as soon as possible and break out the climber.- 10374 replies

Hunters Reminded to Forget the Bait, Enjoy the Wait! With the onset of deer season, hunters start to consider ways to improve their odds of success. Unfortunately, some hunters may turn to unethical or illegal practices to gain an edge. Baiting is one such practice. Recently, baiting has become all too common in New York. This is evidenced by the preponderance of deer feeds and mineral supplements that show up at retail stores just prior to deer season, and then quickly disappear after the season ends. Baiting deer is illegal. New York Environmental Conservation Law Section 11-0901 states: “no person shall hunt deer… with the aid of a pre-established bait pile…” So why are products available every season that are illegal to use? Because currently, there is no ban on the sale of these products, some of which have alternate uses for domestic animals. But by providing them in camouflaged bags with pictures of big bucks on the packaging, it is clear who the products are intended for. Here are some things to consider before purchasing deer bait: Baiting wildlife is illegal. Hunters have an obligation to follow the law. Shooting a deer with the aid of bait is poaching. Those who bait deer (or other wildlife) take opportunities away from other hunters and the general public. Baiting is a type of supplemental feeding, which can affect how deer behave. Concentrating deer at feeding areas can cause localized problems. The public is generally supportive of hunting when hunters observe fair chase principles. Baiting deer (or other wildlife) casts hunters and hunting in a negative light, which has the potential to reduce public support for hunting. Ethical hunters are the best advocates for their sport. The biggest “trophy” is knowing that a hunter “did it right.” Forget the bait; enjoy the wait!

Great morning to be out. Three doe feeding in the distance, Gobblers gobbling in the distance on one side, and a beagle sounding off on a nice track in the distance in the opposite direction. Just gotta get em closer.- 10374 replies

Finally made it out for the first sit this afternoon after this rainy & hot weather. Saw five doe and a feral cat. Had a small one at 15 yards but I just couldn't bring myself to shoot. Maybe later in the season but today she got a pass.- 10374 replies

Taco I recently purchased the same sight and had some issues with it. After a few e-mails back and forth I was actually able to speak with a person. If you call this number: 1-888-887-8456 extension 151 and ask to speak with Todd Williams who is a customer service guy he will help if he can. While I wasn't totally satisfied for the price of the sight he was able to help with some information I couldn't obtain elsewhere. Hope this helps -
Need a dump station were you can place it and shoot coyotes over it. Excellent Bait

That is a bumme From the Adirondacks down to the Catskills, human-bear interactions and nuisance complaints involving bears are up compared to last year. The reason? It's been a dry summer so far, with blueberries, raspberries, black berries and other things consumed by bears in the wild in shorter supply so far. As a result, bears are more likely to seek food from human sources and are appearing more frequently at campsites, or around homes raiding bird feeders, garbage cans, pet food dishes left outside, etc. seems like they have been talking about increased bear call all summer to the drought. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/outdoors/2018/07/upstate_ny_black_bear_nuisance_complaints_rising_due_to_drought_dry_conditions.html

84 degrees here no woods for me. Instead I got everything out I may or may not wear for the season & gave it all a good dose of permethrin and then finished up another chore I am not overly fond of:- 10374 replies

Green bay would have won last week if their kicker hadn't missed 5 times. Laughed my head off.

Maybe it's just me but whether I use a shotgun or rifle depends on the terrain I am hunting. I seldom if ever use a rifle when hunting in the woods and find a shotgun more practical because I don't expect to get a long distant shot in the woods. For me a rifle is for a longer distance in open terrain. I have shot a hell of a lot more deer with a shotgun than rifle and am confident with it to about 150 yds.
