  1. Bow season starts 4 weeks from tomorrow. Hope you get on the mend, back on your feet, and able to get out. keep us posted
  2. Depending how far it is from the camera it looks like a cow to me. If that is a cat it sure is a big one.
  3. One of the most important things is to check it each and every time before getting in. Some A holes have been known to pull the pins on stands when they discover the stand. I saw a incident on state land last year where the guy had his pins pulled, replaced them with bolts, left a dirty note, and still had it messed with. I have also heard of straps being loosened or cut. Never take anything for granted. Hunters as a rule are a good bunch but for whatever reason there always seems to be one or two bad apples in the barrel. I can't imagine what these guys are thinking when they cause damage that could result in death or serious injuries but it something to look out for.
  4. And hopefully you can shoot one before the leaves fall off
  5. You just blew your excuse for not getting one
  6. They are as safe as you make them. Make sure the bottom is seated on firm ground, the center support running from the center to the tree is attached and tight. When in doubt add a rachet strap. I only add chain when I am going to lock it to a tree so it doesn't get stolen.
  7. Judge dismisses charges on suspected terrorist https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-news
  8. Theses work well also, last forever, and are sold in numerous places: http://www.eders.com/hme-reflective-trail-markers-10pk-vinyl.html?&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1OnaisWT3QIVENbACh0bIw1YEAQYAiABEgL1yfD_BwE http://www.eders.com/hme-reflective-trail-markers-10pk-vinyl.html?&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1OnaisWT3QIVENbACh0bIw1YEAQYAiABEgL1yfD_BwE
  9. I personally stand and make sure I blend into the background and am not silhouetted. Standing gives a wider range of view and more ability to shift position without getting busted. I shoot off hand no rest. Less to carry, lose, or forget. Most of the "modern" younger callers are using bipods, tripods, or the ones they just stick the gun in and can swivel it in the direction they want. More stuff to buy, carry, and possibly lose. Just seems easier to me to learn to shoot. But hey...to each their own.
  10. No mechanicals for me. Always used fixed and always will....but to each their own.

  12. Is the Russia investigation changing anyone's mind about trump I for one have not changed my mind about why I voted for Trump but am seeing that he will never be able to deliver on his promises due to the "ongoing investigation". Seems like there is a surge from all directions to destroy any credibility he has and make every decision he makes appear as a bad one. I can't remember anyone including his own party standing up for him and publicly supporting his decisions. By the time it is over the office of president will be no more than a symbol, he will either resign or choose not to run for a second term, and we will be in more political turmoil than ever. I can't begin to imagine the amount of mud that will be thrown around in the next presidential campaign regardless of who runs. We as a country are going in the opposite direction of where we should be and going fast.
  13. I absolutely agree. It doesn't matter what brand you shoot as long as it is comfortable to shoot, fits the way you want and shoots the way you like. You have to have one that "fits" and hopefully will recognize it when you wrap your arms around it
  14. I recently went to a local archery shop to "look" at a sight I was looking to buy. They didn't have what I was looking for but he showed me a comparable one at the price of $200.00. After looking at the sight he says "and I also have the perfect bow to put it on". He showed me the Mathews Triax and let me shoot it. I must say it is a very nice shooting bow, super smooth and zero vibration at the price of $899.00. I explained that I was current shooting a Mathews Solocam and was pretty pleased with it. He proceeded to educate me on the advantages of the Triax blah, blah, blah. So when I asked if he would consider a trade in on my Solocam he balked and stated as a rule they don't take trade ins. So basically he wanted me to drop $1100 on a bow and sight and would also have to purchase everything else such as arrows, quiver, rest, etc. Easily $1500. I would rather be like Cochise and go carve a new one, have the squaw chew me a string for it, than drop that kind of change. Absolutely crazy.
  15. Spring Turkey Hunter Bags Bird with Rare Triple Spurs This spring, retired DEC biologist and avid turkey hunter Bill Hollister knew he had found something rare after he bagged a gobbler in Columbia County. Once he had the bird in hand, he saw that it had three spurs on each leg! In general, most gobblers have spurs, and the length of the spurs is an indication of a bird’s age. On rare occasions, a gobbler will fail to develop one or both spurs, and even more rare still is a gobbler with two spurs on a leg. A bird with triple spurs is almost unheard of. Over the past decade, DEC staff have examined thousands of legs from turkeys killed by hunters in the fall and have seen missing spurs and double spurs, but never a triple spur. From the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks: “Mature gobblers without spurs, or with only one spur, comprise less than two percent of the total harvest. It is more common for gobblers to be missing a spur on only one leg than to not have any spurs. Another abnormality is when gobblers have multiple spurs. According to Lovett Williams, a renowned turkey biologist in Florida, less than two dozen gobblers with double spurs have been reported. There are only two reports of birds with triple spurs – one of which is from Mississippi.”
  16. I personally like a wide angle 4-power on my .22's. Mine are Simmons whitetail fixed 4 power which are hard to come by.
  17. Looks like it is in 9X in the southerntier east of Olean, on rt 417 near the PA border. More than likely it is pretty hilly country and pretty rugged. Good chance there are bear in the area.
  18. That is a nice looking buck. I personally would much rather have one like that on the wall instead of one of those gnarly multi pointed freaks everyone seems to drool over. Hope you or a loved one has a opportunity at him.
  19. Couldn't say it then. He said it on a Monday night game and it got him booted. Now you would be a victim of society and hung out to dry
  20. Cosell would like to say "Look at that little monkey run!"
  21. If I have pants on it is in my pocket. Probably the most used tool in my arsenal
