  4. I think one of the toughest things one has to experience is watching your parents grow old an and realizing that their time is coming. While we know it is coming I don't believe we are ever prepared for it. On a positive note he didn't pass alone and had someone by his side that loved him. Cherish the memories and think of him every time you touch or look at that rifle. My Condolences.

  7. None of the above matter to me. I ain't getting my Mathews wet or myself soaked.
  8. Probably should have stopped, untangled the line from the prop, rolled it up into to a ball, turned around, and when you got close enough tossed it back to him.
  9. DEC Seeking Assistance from Ruffed Grouse Hunters! DEC requests your assistance in a study of ruffed grouse. Productivity (number of young per adult female) is an important indication of the well-being of the grouse population. To assess the age and sex composition of the grouse population, we are seeking rump, wing and tail feathers from all grouse you harvest in New York during the 2018-19 season. As part of a multi-state effort to study West Nile Virus in grouse populations, we are also collecting blood samples from hunter-killed birds. If you would like to participate, visit the DEC website, e-mail us at [email protected] (using “Grouse Parts Collection” in the subject line), or call 518-402-8929
  10. Boy that looks nasty but no fear there is a solution. Hope the healing goes well. For about $30.00 you can get one of these to protect your noggin
  11. Rumor has it that it will give Trump a week to find a multisexual one legged black/hispanic woman judge so everyone will be happy (or no one will).
  12. Here’s one for you: A few years ago a friend & I decide to do a backpacking/camping/deer/bear trip near Woodgate Ny. I had obtained permission from an acquaintance that owned some private land there. The drawback was their “camp” was approx. 5 miles in from where the road stopped. Their only access was a seasonal rd. that required a four-wheel drive to get in. Sine I only owned a two-wheel drive at the time and my friend didn’t have a truck we decided to drive to the access rd. and back pack it the rest of the way to prevent getting stuck in the middle of nowhere. Less than a half mile in it begins to rain. When it starts raining up there in the fall quite often it will last for two or three days at a time. Keep in mind we are packing food, tents, sleeping bags, clothes, bows, and climbing tree stands. It rained the entire hike in. We got there about 1 ½ hr. before dark completely soaked. We weren’t given keys to the camp and were planning on tenting it anyway. Not wanting to set up tents in the rain we decided to set up camp inside a nice little metal shed opened on one end where they kept their camp wood etc. We set up the best we could and luckily had a good supply of dry wood so we could dry out. It rained all night and all the next day but our wood shed was adequate enough to keep us out of the weather and dry. The next day it quit raining so we decided to spend the day scouting and looking for a decent spot to hunt. We both found spots we liked so settled in for the night with high expectations for the next day. The next morning while having coffee we hear this rumbling noise and could not for the life of us figure out what was going on. It kept getting closer and closer to the point is was less than a couple of hundred yards from us so we decided to investigate. We found the source of the noise only to discover it was a Army Reserve unit that had moved into the area and was going to be bivouacked there 3-4 days for maneuvers. We hunted part of one day and it was so noisy there was no way we were going to enjoy our peace and quite adventure so we packed up the next day and hiked back out. Definitely one of my most frustrating and memorable hunts.
  13. Hard to beat these. Compact, light weight, wide field of view, good glass, and reasonably priced. https://www.amazon.com/Nikon-7277-25mm-Travelite-Binoculars/dp/B00382DZQI

    peep size

I personally do not use a peep ...just something else to go wrong. I think a consistent anchor point(or should I say ap) is more important and concentrate on that with a single lighted dot for a sight. I like to keep things as gadget free and simple as possible.
  15. Just submitted a donation and in addition I always plan on using any tags I do not need to donate. It is a good cause as far as I am concerned. Any time you can help feed those in need it is a good thing.
  16. Last Saturday (9/22) was National Hunting and Fishing days http://www.nhfday.org/ It wasn't that long ago it used to be a real big deal here in region 8 and people from all over would come and spend the day(s) seeing the different hunting displays, demonstrations, vendors, and tailgaters. It was a good inexpensive way to spend the day with family and or friends and maybe pick up some information or a deal or two on hunting supplies or equipment. Now.... in a hunting state like New York it is hardly mentioned or celebrated while the Naples Grape Festival coming up this weekend will be packed. A sign of the times I guess
  17. Thanks for the lesson but my point was regardless of the topic at hand it seems you need a urban dictionary to get the gist of the conversation wherever you go.
  18. Doesn't anyone speak/type English anymore??
  19. Except while hunting with a bow: "It is unlawful to: Possess a firearm of any description when bowhunting or accompanying a person bowhunting during special bowhunting seasons."
  20. I make it a point to vote each and every time. If nothing else I believe it gives me a legitimate right to complain. I never use to but I have voted in every one for the last several and even make it a point to vote in the local ones to "try" and keep my taxes down. It ain't workin but I am not giving up the fight.
  21. Worth the price for a quickie cleaning after a hard day of hunting.
  22. It is simply because Cuomo always takes a bunch with him on his trips to Puerto Rico.
