Just more proof it is better to have a firearm to defend yourself with and not need it, then to need it and not have it.

How big is a problem compared to the universe.
Rattler replied to Rattler's topic in General Chit Chat
I was sitting in a deer stand contemplating all of this when I came to wonder, with all of this vastness, we are so tiny in the scheme of things, do we actually have any significance to the creator? If not for that book reassuring us, I would think not. -
Anyone here ever see something like this happen?
Rattler replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Looks like a squib load pushed a bullet into the barrel and didn't eject the empty case. The shooter then manually ejected the spent case and loaded a live round in the chamber, not realizing there was a bullet lodged in the barrel. A bore obstruction will cause that type of catastropic failure in an M1. -
I like to compare my problems to the vastness of the universe to help put them in perspective. If you've ever been sitting in your stand pondering how big the universe is, this video will blow your mind.

My big concern is the state ADDING the $1 to the license cost. They are not asking for a $1 donation, they will be taking it no matter what. I still think hunter's are already donating the deer and they started the program in spite of huge opposition from the state and special interests groups that didn't like it. Hunters get almost no recognition at all for the program. I don't expect we will get any if we pay an extra dollar in the future. The problem of the hungry in NY is one that should be handled by many interest groups involved with the hungry and the homeless. Maybe it's time to ask them to pay these costs. It's not the $1 that's at issue. It's the state's attitude towards hunters regarding this program.

In news from Maine today, the right towing company was called for this job.

This is common for the Mossberg 835, but a little forward pressure on the forearm when the gun is fired will usually prevent it from happening.

1000 guns confiscated from home in CA
Rattler replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
I would never criticize anyone for owning a lot of firearms, but one day I realized what I need a lot of is ammo. You can only carry so many firearms. When they raid my home, the media will be saying, "Man had 10 firearms and 100,000 rounds of ammo!" LOL! -

I don't disagree he was a nut, but the premise the govt used to go after him was an ATF violation, as well as hearsay accusations of other things like child abuse. No evidence was ever presented to prove those charges. The govt was mainly afraid of the weapons he had at that compound and that's why they went after him. It was the ATF that first entered the compound and was shocked to find they were getting shot. -

Trunk locking mechanism in my pathfinder???

You can usually find a video on YouTube to fix a problem like this. I used it to fix the rear latch on my 2012 Escape. I entered "1998 pathfinder rear hatch won't open " Here's one that may help -

Rattler replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
The mere ownership of a lot of weapons makes an individual a target for harassment by authorities these days. Their totalitarian thought process assumes if you own that many firearms, you must have broken one of their multitude of idiotic gun laws somewhere along the line. They charge the person with something based on hearsay evidence and force the person to defend themselves against their attacks in court. Then they make a media circus out of the case to make the public think they have done a great service for the public. The worst part is, when the arrestee is found completely innocent of all charges, no retraction is ever printed, no apology made and no financial recourse for damages is available for that person to be made whole. Some of these cases of harassment go much further than that. The Branch Davidians in Waco, TX would attest to that. -

Media sensationalism used for fear mongering. Think they will print the retractions when no charges are filed or the guy, who's an FFL is found not guilty of any of California's tyrannical gun laws? Chuck Michel, a well-known gun rights attorney, said that having 1,000 guns isn’t that unusual for a federal firearms dealer. He said dealers often keep their own private collections and then separately keep an inventory of weapons in stock for the business. As a federally licensed weapons dealer, a person can sell guns elsewhere that are not compliant with California’s assault rifle laws. The state, however, requires dealers to have a dangerous-weapons permit, Michel said. Sometimes, he said, dealers can overlook the correct paperwork and run afoul of the law, noting that sensational search warrants with piles of guns often end up without charges. -
I just hope Barr goes after these traitors and exposes what really went on. These people should all be in jail.

This would ban lead ammo on tons of private land where any little trickle of a stream runs into anything that eventually flows into the NYC water supply. That would include virtually ALL of the Catskill Mountain region. This could be considered the epitome of government over reach. Last year my land, which has a stream on it that runs to the Delaware and into NYC watershed lakes, had exactly 1 round of ammo fired on it. I don't think that is a threat to anything animal or human. It doesn't say anything about target practice on the land though. Guess I'll just have to shoot it all off, since it's gonna be worthless for hunting anymore.

That's "Sinko D. Mayo" in Murican.

Raining here too. I have a camo umbrella that I use to walk in. Easier than messing with rain gear. Also makes a nice ground blind in a pinch.

So far, in my neck of the Catskills, it's been cloudy and cool, with rain often all three days. More rain in the forecast this weekend too. Haven't heard a gobble at all and heard only two distant shots so far. No way of knowing what they were shooting at. Not seeing many birds in the usual fields along Rt 28 either. Did have 3 nice big hens come into my decoy this morning around 11 AM, but no Tom with them. It's a good thing the season has a long way to go.

Cuomo On The NRA
Rattler replied to Steve D's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Pure retaliation by NY State for the NRA suing them with regard to the Carry Guard Insurance attack. NY is going to lose that lawsuit big time. This current action is being pushed with the hope of recouping what they will pay out in penalties for the illegal economic blacklisting of the NRA in the state of NY.
