Subbies are all over the place up here because of their AWD. Its been like that for a long time.

My girlfriend has a Crosstrek, great little car.

I shoot a practice head a few times just to make sure they are flying the same and then I go back to field points for practice.

Where are those plots?
WNYBuckHunter replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Those pics were at 3 weeks. It looks even better now. My phone was dead this past Saturday when I went down there so no new pics. The deer have been hitting it pretty hard already. My brassicas are at 6-8" tall now as well. Everything is right on track, hopefully this week and a half forecasted dry spell isn't going to hurt it. -

Forgot to post an update last weekend when I went to check the plots. They are all looking good. Deer are pounding the winter rye plots already. -
16 days till southern archery opens . Are you ready
WNYBuckHunter replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Plots have been done for a while, about 1/3 of the stands are done, ordered my license today, shooting good. That's it so far. This weekend stand work will finish up, probably get the posted signs up as well. I'll wait to wash my gear till right before the opener. I'm right on track. -
The state land in our area is almost always empty after thanksgiving, and we are only 35 or so mins from Rochester. I know of a few others that don't get much pressure after thanksgiving that are within 20 mins of me.

You can add the pretty easily and put the switch back by the tailgate. It's on my list of things to do this winter when my truck gets put in the garage. No more salt for her from now on.

I dug up a few pics from when I put the bar on my truck. Last pic is headlights and fogs. You can see the cutoff line of the light. Second is with the bar on, you can see the amount of scatter up above the headlight cutoff line. First pic is what it looks like with the bar on for oncoming traffic.
-
I would not do that. LED light bars, at least in NY, are off road use only and for good reason. I have a 23" bar on the front of my truck. It's blinding bright. You have to remember that these lights are not aimed the same way as a headlight or fogs that have a reflector which directs the light down so it doesn't cause glare to oncoming traffic. Light bars just put out a ton of scattered light. Put it on a separate switch. Everytime some jackwagon has his light bar on coming at me I want to yank him out of his truck and punch him in the throat.

The technology is well proven. The biggest issue is that Bluetooth has a max range of @100 meters with clear line of sight. The Bluetooth connection between my truck and phone gets whacky at far less distance than that. I wouldn't count on it, but it might help if you lose the trail and you aren't too far from where the deer is laying, and the arrow is still in it. I think the best use would be to find that pesky arrow that you missed the target with and it got buried in the grass. I've had it happen a couple of times. Couldn't find them even with the nocks lit.

You are out of touch with modern technology. That's all I can say.

Don't ever go to Pygmys house and sit on anything then -
Couldn't tell ya, haven't lived there in a year. Lol

Yeah I'd be doing the whole job myself. The tank is the most expensive part because it has to be shipped up here from Georgia I think.

I'm at the top of the hill above the fire dept on 64. All kinds of water issues around me. The well we have has times where we get the sulfur smell and the water is hard, which messes with our appliances. That was one of the reasons I was thinking of the cistern. Don't have as much to worry about with the city water I can get at the town fillup. Just a pain to haul it.
-
I thought about that, but there's no way to get a drilling rig in there anymore. There are 40 ft maple trees within a few feet of the well.

Yep. The R700 223 with a 26" heavy barrel I had used to shoot sub moa off of a bench all day long (I say all day long because of how long the barrel had to cool between shots to do it). My buddy and I spent a lot of time at the range taking out golf ball sized chunks of clay pigeons, etc with our bench guns at 200 yards. I won't say how many times I was off by a bit at those ranges in an off bench hunting situation though. I also hated carrying that gun due to weight and the damn thing being so long. One of these days I'll play around and dial in my R700 VTR 308, but for now I can put 3 rounds well within a softball at 100 and a pie plate at 200 with a rest, which is fine for hunting. I don't really feel the need to try and dial it in as a bench gun.

It also breaks down any rubber fuel lines, primer bulbs, etc and gets that crap into the system, which gums up jets, etc. Better to use non-ethanol gas or a good additive and avoid that issue than fix things when they break.
-
I started adding Startron to the gas in all of my small engines years ago after having to rebuild the fuel system in almost all of them due to ethanol issues. Havent had a single problem with any of them since. Anything that might sit for more than a few weeks gets a dab of Stabil as well.

Our house in Bristol, which sits on top of a rather large hill (1100-1200ft) has 2 wells. One is close to the house, and Im not sure how deep it is. The other is a shore well on the bank of our pond. I moved there last year, before the drought conditions got real bad, and the closer well went dry, followed by the shore well a month or so later, when the pond level got below where it needs to be. I ended up hauling water to fill the shore well (which has a 400 gallon cistern built into it) every couple of days until almost winter time, when we finally started getting rain again. Now that well is a pain in the ass to fill, as it sits 450ft away from the house, downhill, so I have to drive my truck back there with a 300 gal tank of water on a slope with sometimes slippery grass and a 30 foot deep pond at the bottom. Not something youd want to do in any type of snow. The well thats close to the house doesnt hold enough water to bother filling it. Fast forward to early this summer, everything had been going fine running off of the shore well until we got back from a 4 day camping trip and found the back side of the hill completely soaked when it hadnt rained in 4 days. We went in the house and the water was barely a trickle. I noticed that the pond level had dropped a bit so I started investigating the issue. I ended up calling a well guy to come in and pressure test the line going to the shore well, as I suspected it had split. He found that it had, and quoted us between $4000 - $4500 to replace the line, as its a 450 ft run, and has to be routed to avoid the septic tank and leech field. Since then, we have been running on the other well, but my girlfriend is nervous it will run dry and we will be SOL. I started looking at other options and came up with the option of digging a large hole in the front yard (I have access to an excavator) and burying a 1500 gallon cistern and run a line/electric into the house and tap into the system that the shore well is currently hooked to. The fill for the tank would be within 20 feet of the driveway, so filling it should be no big issue. The local town water supply is just down the hill from me, and I can get close to 1000 gallons for @ $6. The tank, pump, etc would cost us less than $4000. The other option would be to dig a completely new well. I have no idea how deep we would need to go to get consistent water, but I have noticed that a fairly large number of people around us haul water all year, and everyone seems to have water hauling tanks and setups just in case. In any case, what are some of you that are living up on hills doing for water systems? Any of you that have a cistern system? I do know that a house with only a cistern would be hard to sell, but we would still have the one well connected to the house, and I plan on running a new line for the shore well over to our garage, which is detached from the house, to use for washing cars, etc. as I wont have to worry about avoiding any septic or anything else.

Yeah I figure most of my older posts don't have them anymore because Photobucket became a crap pay service that I won't shell money out for.

If I can't keep a softball size group or less at a given distance, I'm not even considering shooting that far. At this point, my max hunting range is @ 45 to 50 in perfect conditions shooting at a calm feeding deer. I will target shoot at 60, but that is just to make shorter shots easier. Last year I killed my buck at 40 yards in the woods, and it felt like a hell of a poke even though I knew the lane was completely clear, I had practiced that distance a ton and the deer was at a dead stop completely broadside. I hit that deer about an inch from where I wanted.
