Seriously? All I can do is shake my head....LOL I feed my dog(s) venison, both raw and cooked. They lick up the blood on the driveway and right under the deer, chew the bones, etc. Never chased a deer or anything like that. You would have to train the dog to associate that meat with the live deer first.

NY DEC: Wild Boars No Longer "Fair Game"
WNYBuckHunter replied to burmjohn's topic in NYS DEC News and Annoucements
Hmmmm. Im up in the air whether I think its a good idea or not, but hey, these guys must know more about wild boar than I do. Ive only ever seen a few of them when I lived in Florida. -
Congrats!

For me, at this point, a good season is a deer with the bow and another with the gun. A really good season would be 3 or 4 deer. This season has been my best ever, with 6 so far, and one of those being a nice buck. The only thing that would top what has happened for me this season would be to drop my target buck. Also, I cant forget other things that made this such a great season. I got my daughter out there with me a few times, was present for 2 different hunters taking their first bucks, and another taking her first deer. I also introduced another female to the sport, and ended up taking my buck with her right there in the stand with me. I was able to be right there when my hunting partner took the biggest buck of his life as well. If I can get one or two of those things accomplished, plus a couple of deer, Id call it a good season for sure.

Cougars dont carry their kills into trees. Anywhere they do actually live, you can find evidence of them. The ONE that was proven to be here left evidence, dont you think a population would as well? Heck, a kangaroo got loose out near Syracuse last year, there were people getting pics of it with their cell phone cameras from the thruway. Are you insinuating that lawmakers are smart enough to make laws that make sense? Thats the silliest thing Ive read in this thread yet! -

Grabbing at straws much? Look, some "UFO experts" say theres a chance a small group of UFOs float around the world daily, whats your point? There are freaking TV "reality" shows about people chasing around an imaginary ape, does that make the creature really exist? Bottom line, the one Cougar that was hit, left a trail of evidence. If there was a resident population, those animals would leave the same type of evidence, but none exists. Wish all you want, they arent there. -

Shooting the biggest guns money can buy
WNYBuckHunter replied to fasteddie's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Ive watched the show many times. Most of the time its pretty fair to the subjects it is dealing with. Once in a while it has a liberal-ish slant to it though. I was actually surprised to find out Maher had anything to do with it after I had watched an episode or two. -

I went to Knob Creek when I lived in Ohio. Its a good time, Id like to go again sometime and take the kids. They would get a heck of a kick out of it. I fired an M16 and an M60. I wanted to try the mini gun, but it was pricey. Theres no better sound than a mini gun having at it. -

Nope. I was working on stuff almost daily since late August, and at least weekly since July. I dont remember burning out like this last year. -
Man, I love a nice warm, soft muff....

The BDL has the hinged floor plate, so you can unload the integrated magazine without cycling the bolt for each round to come out as well. The ADL does not. The CDL is the removable mag.

If you really want to create cover, like a sanctuary type area, and you arent looking to have it logged out, squash it. Have someone come in with large enough equipment and have them literally run the trees over, knocking them down, but not completely breaking them off. It will make a complete mess, but thats really the whole point. Plus, you will get suckers growing off of the trees, as they do not all die. The smaller branches will become available as browse, it lets light in for smaller brush, etc to grow, and you will have almost impenetrable cover for the deer to hang out in. -

If you can push the brush out, do that. It will rip most of the roots out. If you brush hog it, it will come back faster, and you will have large, clumpy stumps in the ground that will need to be taken out with a larger disc or plow. A small disc will just bounce off of them. We tried it last year with both a tow behind ATV disc and a 6 foot 3 point disc on a 75hp tractor. Neither did well at all. The plot that we pushed out first turned out far better, plus we were able to strategically place the brush piles to start forming funnels for the deer to enter and exit the plot. -
The SPS is available in .308, its the same gun as the BDL, but with a composite stock. If you dont want composite, check out the 700 VLS. Its available in .308 as well.

I hunted this past weekend with no gloves, or a very light pair that I wear for bow hunting. I use a muff, and then toss a couple of hand warmer packs in there. It works very well.
