Interesting article on Fox News yesterday....
WNYBuckHunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
You should read it -
Again, whats your point? I didnt say I did anything illegal. Oh I got ya, you ASSume things.
-
Yep, I said that I may or may not carry my dinky little 380 while bow hunting. I dont, and would never shoot a deer with it. Whats your point? I didnt post a video of me carrying it, I didnt even say for sure whether I did or not.

A master baiter wouldnt blow himself up like this
-
Noone said you are a poacher, but you are a baiter.

Baiting is a serious offense, and conditioning a WILD deer to not fear humans is a horrible disservice to that animal. You say they arent in the same category, I say they are. Noone is saying that "someone here" hasnt used feed, I said I dont use it. I also said that your broad sweeping accusation of "to think everyone in this forum has never put out a bio rock or mineral site or some acorn rage etc is pretty naive." is complete horse manure. You sir, are the negativity in this thread, right along with the OP.
-
None of that! I could say the same about someone else as well lol.
-
baiting and poaching are on the same level in NY. When someone videos their illegal actions and then posts it on a public internet forum, they are pretty much putting their ethics, or lack thereof, on full display. Nobody said your opinion doesnt count, but I did say that your expressed opinion is just as damaging to legal hunters' reputations as the person actually committing the illegal act. If you think you are going to sit there and say that I or anyone else is being a big meanie, or hypocrite, and not respond to it, well Id say you are the one being unrealistic.

Yes, your comments were.

As many as I can. Last year was a great year, I filled 4. Could have taken another 1 or 2, but didnt for various reasons.
-
Oh please. I have never put out bait, as its illegal. I plant food plots, because they are legal. Baiting vs Food Plots is a whole different subject, and has nothing to do with the subject matter in this thread. Weather baiting should be legal is also not the point here. If you believe that law breakers shouldnt be called out for their actions, then you are just as big of a problem as the law breakers are. The people breaking the law are the negative, not the ones calling them out for it.

http://bowrattler.com/ Thats the one

Theres a company that mainly advertizes on Archerytalk that makes a very nice string stop. Its adjustable and fits on just about any bow. Let me see if I can dig the info up, I had one on my old PSE and it worked great.

Ill be hunting the best stand for the conditions. Im hoping for one stand in particular to have the right conditions within the first 3 days of the season, as I have a (kinda) target buck this year that has been using this area pretty regularly, and Id like to get in there and get him before the pressure causes him to change his ways. After the first week, Ill still be after him, but then if another nice buck comes along, I wont be passing him.

Deer and other wildlife are resources, which are owned by the people of NY state, and managed by the DEC. They have free reign to wander from one property to another, but the person that owns the land they are standing on still does not own the animal. Now if someone shoots the animal, and it dies on your land, you have the discretion to allow said person onto your land to recover the animal or not. Personally, Ive never understood the land owner that would not allow someone to recover from the property, as long as they ask first. I had it happen to me with my first buck I ever shot. I was 18 years old, I shot it on state land, it died on private. Before crossing the line, I went to the land owner's house and asked permission to drag it off. I was denied. By the time I brought a DEC officer back with me, the deer was hanging in the guys garage. I wonder how many times hes bragged about that deer that he hunted and shot, when in reality he denied a young hunter their first buck.

Climbing sticks/separate sections/screw in steps?
WNYBuckHunter replied to nybuckboy's topic in Deer Hunting
Sticks unless theres a specific reason to use screw in steps. I havent tried the separate sections yet. -
But at the same time as belo says surveys done by the DEC shouldnt be used as facts, he spouts the nonsense that NYB posts up as if its the gospel. At least the DEC did surveys to come up with their numbers instead of pulling them out of thin air. I say the DEC should do a true survey, and add 5 questions when you buy your hunting license. You could use those numbers as fact, and even separate them between bow hunters, all season hunters and gun hunters.

Now that we are all....
WNYBuckHunter replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Here are some pics I took this weekend Heres my big double stand that I moved from a property I lost to the farm. Its right in a transition zone of thick, young brush and trees that sits between more open, mature hardwoods and a huge Ag field. I had a few encounters with a couple of very nice bucks in this area last year, but needed the set to be closer to the cover. Once bow is done, there is a full blind that will go up there, which makes it a perfect stand for taking others in. Here are a couple of shots of trails we have been cleaning up. Trying to get them as twig and debris free as possible. We will be running leaf blowers down them this week to clean them up the last little bit. Plots/cages that went in recently... -
Already working on it.
-
If it were legal in NY, I could see using it for camera purposes, but Im not sure if I would hunt over it.
-
I think its a competition thing on this property. We will figure out who it is eventually, and they will get booted off of the farm if they currently have permission.
