NY Safe Act
WNYBuckHunter replied to beachpeaz's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Agreed, but making them harsher is a step in the right direction. -
Thanks for the heads up on Power Plant. I am actually having the least amount of growth with the WI seed we put in. The generic mix that Turners whipped up for us is growing like gangbusters, The Whitetail Institute seed is barely sprouting.

NY Safe Act
WNYBuckHunter replied to beachpeaz's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Yes there is. I have already filled out my form. As has been said, its really the only good part of the act, besides the increased penalties for gun related crimes. -
NY Safe Act
WNYBuckHunter replied to beachpeaz's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Dont get it confused, the SAFE Act has nothing, and had nothing, to do with publicly listing the names of people with CCW/pistol permits. When you apply for a pistol permit (or when you used to), part of what you agreed to was that your status as a permit holder was public domain. All it took was a request and the state had to hand the info over. Now as far as the SAFE Act and its "necessity" goes, its nothing but a gun grab power play to weaken the citizens of the state and remove more of our rights. Its pretty plain and simple actually. -
Now that I got a black bear on camera . . .

Incorrect. You can use up to a certain amount of it. Its been covered here before. I think its 1.5 or 2 ounces. DEC will tell him the correct amount. -
lol, Im not commenting on that Culver

This guy is my best so far. Taken last year the day before Thanksgiving with my muzzleloader.

They are, all you do is give them a visual inspection, flex them and twist them, and as long as there are no cracks, chunks out of them, and they dont crunch when you flex/twist, they are fine to reuse.

Ill take a farm land corn/bean fed 3.5 over a Catskill twig fed 1.5 any day of the week

Fall Grain Planting
WNYBuckHunter replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
lol, we are lucky -
With the situation I described, age has nothing to do with it, as we would be comparing the same genetics, the same age, just different nutrition. As far as ADK deer vs Catskill Deer, are you are talking about a 1 1/2 year old vs an older deer, or animals of the same age? You have to remember Bergmanns rule, which basically says the further north you go, the larger the animal becomes. When talking catskills vs dacks, even though they arent that far apart in miles, the climate type is totally different, which explains the bigger body sizes, etc.

I do the same. Water and paper towel, flex test it and then add another dot to the cock vane with a sharpie.

Nutrition is a bigger factor than genetics in a wild deer, especially in a state like NY where supplemental feeding, minerals, etc are illegal. Take two deer from the same genetic line, put one out here in WNY farm country, and let him grow to 5 years old. Then, take the other, and drop him in the Catskills region, and let him grow to the same age. Bettcha I can tell you which one will have the biggest body size and rack. Talking genetics in a wild deer herd is pointless.

Dont worry about the times they are showing up right now. Patterns will drastically change very soon anyway. Great bucks, the first and second ones are slobs.

WNYBuckHunter replied to Cabin Fever's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Man Im so glad we dont have rocky soil. Out of 4 plots we put in this year, not a single rock. -
They will probably have a new season this year. I havent seen anything about it yet though.

Feedback on the site - Any problems?
WNYBuckHunter replied to HuntingNY's topic in General Chit Chat
Hey John, Im having an issue the last few days on iOS. In the Safari browser, when I click on a thread to open it, it brings up the little preview arrow, then I have to click again to open the thread. Its very annoying, any ideas? Ive done the cache flush, etc. -

Broadcasting Tiny Seed

Im cheap, id rather lug extra weight than buy a new spreader lol. You can get used play sand for free off of craigslist if you look around for old sand boxes. The cat poop inside makes for a fertilizer bonus. -
Thanks guys, Ill get some more pics maybe Monday.
-
No, just small containment cages that Ill plop in each plot so the deer cant eat whats inside them. Its to show what the consumption level of the plot is like.

Worked on stuff today, letchworth tomorrow, cookout at home Monday.

Stopped down to check cams and plots yesterday. Heres what Plot 4 is looking like. Sorry for the half picture, my cell phone is a POS. You should still get the idea. And here is a pic from plot 2, which was planted less than a week ago. Plot 1 looks the same as 2, and Plot 3 is just starting to come in here and there. We are waiting until we get 4" of growth before we fertilize. Ill be building cages for each plot this weekend.
