  1. LMAO You should see my forearm today. My form was way off that night. Must have been all the excitement from shooting with the aid of a light again....
  2. This weekend I built 3 out of the 4 containment cages for the plots. I put them in on Saturday. Heres a pic of plot 2, which is growing the best out of them so far. Its in a bottom area, so the soil is superb and it stays moist. It should be ready to be fertilized in the next week or so. 2 of the plots are on hill tops, and I think are drying out a bit faster than we would like, causing them not to grow quite as well. Winter peas and brassicas are coming up in Plot 3, but the oats dont seem to be coming up much at all. Last time Ill buy WI seed.
  3. Their vision is pretty different than a human, and its more than just colors. Read up on some of it here: http://www.qdma.com/articles/can-deer-see-blaze-orange As far as hearing goes, they have a better ability to pin point the sound because they can rotate the ears. They do seemingly hear a bit better over longer range than we do.
  4. Probably an old hunting would from the location being almost right above the vitals. She may have ducked or someone just shot high.
  5. HAHA Doc, I think that same thing every time I see it
  6. Open container laws are for alchohol, not just any open container.
  7. I have brand new sets going in this weekend, and next weekend. I shot 2 deer and had a few encounters with mature bucks out of a stand that I hung the weekend before the opener last year. I just hang them, trim lanes and stay out after that until I hunt there.
  8. Ill use them as targets if they are in the right spot.
  9. shawn cant ban anything. He didnt report anything either. Hes the king of killing threads around here, just ignore him.
  10. Not true, you are still pursuing game during an archery or ML season. Its one of those grey areas that might get you a ticket. Would I personally worry about it? Nope. I wont say weather or not I carry during bow season, but its almost a rarity to not find my handgun on me.
  11. Its all relative. We have some 2 1/2s on the farm that I would be really tempted to take, but Im really making the effort to stay 3 1/2 and up this year. Maybe try to educate your buddy a bit. The QDMA site has some good aging articles and whatnot on their site.
  12. If I had the land we hunt locked up, and didnt have to worry about a bunch of other guys being there, Id consider it too. I wouldnt want to do the vertical bow in the dead of winter thing, but Id do crossbow then. Seeing as I dont have nice, managed land that only sees light pressure, I drop my bow as soon as gun opens. I have switched it up and only used my Muzzleloader, except on drives. Gives it some extra challenge. The buck I shot last year was a challenge, as the first pull of the trigger resulted in a misfire and I had to push the load out of the gun and reload again. I wasnt an easy thing to do knowing there was a nice buck right out in the field, and I was on the ground, pretty much in the open. After the first shot didnt go off, I started getting the shakes and had to calm myself down again as I reloaded as fast as I could. Definitely more of a thrill than just ejecting a dud bullet and loading another in the action.
  13. G5 IMO. Simple, reusable, and work great. If your bow is properly tuned, you shouldnt need to BH tune.
  14. Oh Ive had good results with calls, but not using them blindly. Id like to try a decoy sometime. Maybe then using a scent on it may work, I dont know. I just have had zip for luck with them, even the "fresh" stuff.
  15. You know how quickly pee breaks down? Also, do you know how its collected? They piss on the floor of the barn (many deer) and it runs into a collection vat, along with all of the other crap on the floor. How many scents are you really pouring out of that bottle? Not worth it to me. The only pee Ill use is my own in scrapes. Works just as well as the deer pee you buy. JMO of course.
  16. Im not using scents any longer. Never had any luck with them, dont care to keep on experimenting. I have also given up on blind calling and rattling. Low impact is my game.
  17. I get pics of mature bucks within hours after I check my cams. That being said, I tend to keep my cams in areas where human activity is the norm. Its a working farm, so deer are accustomed to coming across human related scent in certain areas. They do get sketchy when they run across it in areas not normally worked, or if they spot you not in a truck or on equipment. I still have stands to put up and some lanes to trim. Im not worried about it. I will adjust my setups during the season if I have to.
