If you read the site, it tells you that these arrows must be cut and tapered to your specs before you can put a point on them. You would let them know what length you need and they will set them up for you. Theres a chart on the 3 rivers site that tells you what length to get based on draw length and weight.

I agree, which is why I shoot fixed blades, just that much less to go wrong.

Whatever floats your boat. Have a great season, and if you hear anything back from DEC on the legality of these broadheads, Im sure we would all love to see it.
-
Why would Rage file a case against NY? NY is allowed to make any hunting implement that it feels does not adhere to its game laws illegal if the DEC wants to. As far as what Eddie said, who cares if hes being sarcastic? You cant handle a little sarcasm? Gotta take that stuff in stride, and not take it personally.

Breathe a bit and relax, sheesh, he was just busting chops. If you find an internet forum on any subject and everyone always agrees with each other, its going to be boring and short lived. Calling people dimwits just because they have been told by DEC that something is illegal is just plain silly. Also, I respect and appreciate your military service 150%, but using it in an argument to slam others is pretty low. While most of us would agree that we would like to see the DEC release something official on the Rage 3's, right now, youd be better off getting a DEC officer to say they are legal in writing, and keep a copy of that letter handy just in case another DEC officer tickets you for using them.

Thats a bummer nyantler, sorry to hear it. Been through the same thing twice when I was younger, and I know how you feel.

Bubba, Im not telling you that you are wrong. I am just saying that tearing it down did not take me any more time than it does to tear down my other guns. I was also just clearing up the fact that I dont just clean my guns once a year. I value your opinion, as I know you have lots of experience with this stuff, certainly alot more than I do. Knowing myself, if I have to tear it down after 4 shots, I probably wont own it for more than a year or two, lol.

Not in the least. Id take a long shot on a doe given the right circumstances. Dont get me wrong, I love big racks (steve863 can insert joke here), but Im in it for the experience and the venison above all else.
-
Great ideas Lawdwasz. Spraying with the hose should be a fine test, the cam should be waterproof after all.
-
If you arent comfortable with taking the shot, than dont do it. If you are hunting in woods with undergrowth, where sticks and twigs down low are an issue, dont take a long shot. If you dont have a bow capable of shooting out to those distances with enough speed and energy, dont take the shot. If you dont regularly practice out to those ranges, dont take the shot. If the deer is moving, dont take the shot. Before bagging on someone because they took a shot YOU might not be comfortable with, maybe you should consider the circumstances behind that shot, and the shooters capabilities. Would I take that shot? Probably not, but then again, I dont know the situation or circumstances, as I have not seen it. Would I take a shot over 40 yards on a deer given the right circumstances? Yep.

I use adjustable straps on all of my cams. I hate the bungees. Let us know how that cam does for you, Ive been interested to see what those WGI 1.3s do.
-
That sounds odd. Although I know some cams have the TV output on them. I was just wondering.
-
If you have the right opportunity at a deer that is not on alert, and is standing still or feeding with its head down, you are confident in the shot and have alot of practice out at those distances, and longer, then by all means take it. People take long shots all the time, especially out west, and they do just fine. Its all about knowing your limits and having the right opportunity. Being in the woods doesnt make much of a difference as long as its a clear shot.

Chipmunks, Lizards and Salamanders!
WNYBuckHunter replied to Arrowsmith's topic in General Chit Chat
When I was a kid I had all kinds of Salamanders. As for chipmunks, I shoot those little bastards with my air gun every chance I get around the house. I also use the old 5 gallon bucket with water and bird seed to get rid of them. Out in the woods, I dont care about them. -
I clean my guns after Im done shooting every time. They get cleaned once a year even if they dont get shot.

The Rage 3s are not supposed to lock into place. The problem is that they are more susceptible to malfunctioning and basically jamming open, not allowing the blades to fold forward. That is why some ECOs are saying they are illegal. Your best bet is to email the ENCON officers in your area and ask them. If they say its fine, print the emails and keep them handy.

I have a quick question. Why do some of you guys look at your cards on one camera and take a picture of the picture with another camera? Why not just pop your card into a reader (most PCs have had them built in for years) and upload form there? I really think its funny when you see pics of the pic displayed on a monitor lol.

DMAPs can only be used during the open deer season, and only on the property specified. DDPs can be used during the times specified, which are not during an open deer season, and only on the property specified. DMPs are used only during open deer season and anywhere in the WMU specified. This year, 4Z has no DMPs available, 4Y has 1700 DMPs available. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/30409.html

Why I love Dick's Sporting Goods Store
WNYBuckHunter replied to fasteddie's topic in General Chit Chat
You have to watch yourself getting caught up in "sale" prices at Dicks though. Theyve had the Glen Del Buck "on sale" for $149.99 (save $10) for a year now lol. -
If you want a great campground that is dog friendly, check out 4 Mile Creek, up on the Lake Ontario Shore near NF. I love that campground, especially the lake view sites. You can see Toronto on a nice day.

I think most of the time people use that term in reference to most of the hunters that they, personally, have delt with. I agree, painting with a broad brush can be dangerous without real numbers, stats or facts to back the statement up.
-
Going to? I think it did that a while ago
-
Ive already torn it down and cleaned it, it wasnt that bad. I tear all of my guns down once a year minimum anyway. I think it takes me longer to tear my 12ga autoloader down than it did to do the ML.
