Buying my license and I'm a little pissed.

I got mine yesterday. I always get it online. -
If you havent been paying attention, then you are missing the people questioning the use of these products right on this site. Now imagine how many people just buy it because they didnt bother to read the laws and just dont know its illegal. Ive talked to many of them at the store before, that have told me they believe it to be legal. The sign isnt going to stop those intent on using it, but it would inform those who dont know, and possibly dissuade them from using it.

Good thinkin!

I sent an email to DEC to confirm this and they verified it. They told me that their legal division is looking into what needs to be done to get them back in. The bill will probably have to be rewritten and passed again.

I have a 500C in 20ga and an old 500 12ga. The only issue I have had with my 20 is the cheap scope mount thats available for it. I never could keep it tight, and after a while it would be out of whack. Other than that, you cant make it misfeed or not perform. My 500 12ga is something my father left in the attic for 30 years and it is rusted all to heck. One of these days Im going to go through it and clean it up and get it working again. They are good guns for the money, and depending on what configuration/slug you use, are plenty effective out to 100 to 125 yards.

Local bow shoot/get together

I have any day free next week besides Tuesday or Thursday. -
Man, looks like you guys are gonna take a direct hit. Ive been through tropical storms when I lived in FL, so I have a little idea what you are in for. Do not take this storm lightly.

They would, however, have the authority or contacts to make it the law to post signs explaining the law on the shelves where the products are sold. At least that would make those that use it aware that it is in fact, illegal in this state. This seems like a very reasonable thing to do... not that they have the money to do it right now. But the idea is solid. The state of NY already requires similar signage in other aspects of retail; e.g. have you noticed that in garden centers they are now legally obligated to post signs in relevance with using chemical herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers in your lawn. Wouldnt take much money to do, have someone whip up a design on a computer and make it available on their website, then require retailers to print and post it on each shelf. They spend alot more money than that would take on toilet paper for the Governors offices each month. ;D

Last night I headed out to the range to get my bow sighted in and get some practice in. The guy at the shop happened to have his chronograph out for another customer, so we ran my bow through it. Here is what I came up with for how my bow performs in hunting configuration. 2010 Hoyt Maxxis 35 Draw Length: 29" Draw Weight: 63 lb Arrow Length: 27" Arrow Weight: 350 grains (with 100 grain broadhead/field point) Bow Speed: 293 fps (through chrono) KE: 66.75 ft/lb I am really happy with these numbers and the way this bow shoots. I have come to the conclusion that I will never cheap out and buy a mid or lower end bow again. Id rather buy a top end bow thats a year or two old. This is the smoothest, fastest, best shooting bow I have ever owned. Ive got it pretty much dialed in all the way out to 60 yards. I need some practice, as Im a little rusty, but I was still shooting some respectable groups.

Go back when its cool, before the sun warms everything up, or after the sun goes down and it cools off. Bring a couple of cans of wasp spray and blast em.
-
HAHAHA, these people are driving me nuts telling me they will buy then backing out at the last minute. I get offers while I tell them I will hold it that I have to turn down. Then, once they back out, I contact the other guy and they already pulled the trigger on another bow. :

Back up again.

Oh now you've done it! I imagine ol' WNYBuckhunter will be explaining why it is impossible for you to have seen what you saw ...... ;D . He should be in here momentarily demanding pictures, hair samples and casts of tracks and maybe even a DNA report all on a notarized form......lol. You know what you can do with that comment Doc. If youd get off your high horse and start reading instead of skimming comments and ASSuming, youd see that I dont demand anything, but Im not going to take your story seriously unless you back it up with evidence. I dont give a rats ass what you think of my opinion. If you are going to make a claim and someone calls you on it, and you cant back it up with evidence, dont start crying foul. See, I told you you were taking all this way too seriously. Where is your sense of humor. Now that reply was funny right there, I don't care who you are. The fact that it was based on all of your previous replies does not take away the fact that it was funny. As I said before ..... "relax". There's no need for worrying about rat's asses and high horses ..... lol. Hey, what can I say, I was grumpy this morning

I noticed that right off.. he changed it and changed it back... I'm sure he's been $%!ting his britches since he posted this... It doesn't look good for him... He didn't have it scored as far as I know... otherwise He'd have had a tough time explaining things... I'd be curious if he even reported either buck.. ;D HE didnt change it back, it was changed back for him.

You have to look at what the law says in its entirety, you cant just cherry pick words and put unintentional meaning behind them. The same law that you quote as making no sense clearly states that food plots are fine.

What's the one thing you don't want to do while bow hunting?
WNYBuckHunter replied to First-light's topic in Bow Hunting
last year I dropped my quiver with my arrows out of my climber. I got lucky and was able to snag it with my guthook knife connected to the end up my hoist rope. Yet another reason not to go higher than my hoist rope is long. ;D -
Good Luck to all of you guys down there, and stay safe.

It would be nice to get an explanation, but I highly doubt we will see it. I think the fact that he tried to change his info is explanation enough. BTW, this buck (the second one) is pretty clearly from his home grounds, as he said his stand was 300 yards from the house. The first buck he shot was on Oct 18, which was the 3rd day of the season. He never posted anything about shooting a doe on the 16th or 17th, and it seems that he likes to post about his successful hunts. Simple reasoning says that the spike was his first kill of the season, not a deer shot on a bonus tag. Following that line of thought, the second buck was poached. Its possible that there is some other, legal explanation, its just not probable.

He lives in Marion, to be more specific. Thats a pretty good jog from 8c.

Culvercreek Hunt Club and I were talking about figuring out a day that some of us could get together and shoot our bows at one of the local ranges. We would do this at Bullzeye Archery in Bloomfield, as they have a very nice range and its free to use. I thought Id see if there was anyone interested, and if so, we can figure out a day and time that would work for all of us.
